No kidding. Daubach hit .345 for the entire month of July, and his total avg. is still .265 (or thereabouts). I found it noteworthy that the Sox chose to waive Offerman, who plays at least two positions, and not Clark, when the time to waive came. Offerman was sucking slightly less. I guess that's what you get for not being popular in the clubhouse, as they say.

Ricky's hitting .240 and Baerga is hitting about .320.
Career Satistics before this year.
Baerga AVG .291 R 659 H 1400 HR 124 RBI 686 BB 253 SB 52
Henderson AVG .280 R 2248 H 3000 HR 290 RBI 1094 BB 2141 SB 1395
I see you didn't compare their Stolen Bases. Career Ricky has 1343 more SB's. If you give Ricky the chance he is more productive at the plate. Carlos Baerga 2001 Played 53 games in the Independent Atlantic League for the Long Island Ducks and hit .315(64-203) with nine home runs and 44 RBI...Selected to the 2001 Atlantic All-Star Team. 2000 DNP. 1999 Released by St. Louis in spring training signed by Cincinnati and played AAA Indianapolis. Asked for and was granted his release, signed w/ San Diego and played w/ AAA Las Vegas. Promoted to San Diego...hit .167,1 HR,and 1 RBI as a pinch hitter. Aquired by Cleveland. Hit .241,3 HR, 10 RBI, in 55 MLB games.
Oh no, wait. Your right, and I am mistaken. Baerga has been lighting up the league the last 3 years! Baerga for MVP!
Only thing I worry about is this season, and this season Baerga is hitting better than Ricky.

Offerman did not realy play any of those two positions real well. Clark is a much better first baseman and besides running into the outfield to get a pop-up Offerman was a very bad second baseman. I also think that Clark being the AL player rep had alittle (not alot) bit of reason why he is still here. | count olaf

I don't think I need to mention 1986 or the incredibly long drought without a championship in Boston or the fact that they are once again sliding out of the playoff picture as summer turns to fall, but since your title was so disturbing, I guess I will. | jfkfc

Hey, don't take out your anger on others because your team has been playing like shit. The title fits. The pitching was great for a decent run (esp Astacio), the offense has been pretty crappy, and the defense was a total let-down. If they could get a box of Cracker Jacks for Mo Vaughn, they should make that deal in a heartbeat, even if the secret prize inside is missing and there are only two peanuts in the whole box. If they could deal Burnitz for anyone (with the possible exception of Greg Vaughn), dead or alive, they would come out ahead. Man, the team looked great in February though. You can't really gripe about any of the deals they made, for they all seemed to make good baseball sense. It's just that they all together absolutely sucked this year.

It was nice to see the Mutts finally score a run last night. Maybe, just maybe, they'll win a baseball game in the next few weeks. Oh wait, that might be asking just a bit much.

The title doesn't fit. I was hoping for a good discussion of how and why the mets have disappointed this year (and all of your reasons are completely valid), not debate over the world's most futile team, the Red Sox.
And in the end, it doesn't matter what their records are or how far they end up out of the Wild Card, we all know that neither team is headed to the postseason this year. | drjayphd

| #33 Posted on 22.8.02 2335.49 | Instant Rating: 0.00 | I have always liked ricky. But you dont play a 240 hitter instead of a 320 hitter now. You play the player who hits for average.... and spot ricky. It's about what they can do now. Career wise your talking about a probable hall of famer. But Ricky cant manage his career average this year.

How do you spell futility? "B-O-S-T-O-N-R-E-D-S-O-X". Don't get me wrong here - my veins pump pinstripe blood, for I am a die-hard Yankee fan. I hate the Bosox, sure, but that team can play. I think they should just say "WTF" and see if they could make a [insert any two overpaid players here on the Boston roster] for Hampton trade before the deadline. For them right now, it is too much like "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain" with Pedro and Lowe. Hampton has to be better than friggin Burkett, oy.
I would trade Jeter for Nomar, though. Man I like Nomar. I have had secret fantasies of Jeter moving to third (when Nomar's walk year comes around) and Nomar playing SS at The Stadium. A guilty pleasure, sorta like hoping to see Goldberg in the WWE.
The Mets still suck though. I looooove seeing them lose. I think it is just all of the cocky, dickhead Mets fans that I know and work with that make me enjoy this streak. I am hoping that the Mets, as a team, get on a real roll and lose something like 20 games in a row. THAT would be just too sweeeeeeeeet!
