The University of Kentucky's Jodie Meeks set a school record - and put on the best individual scoring performance in over a decade - last night by putting up 54 points in a 90-72 Wildcat victory over Tennessee in Knoxville.
Dan Issel scored 53 back before the 3-pointer debuted. Meeks made 10 threes last night in scoring 54. So it's kinda like Meeks had a head start towards the record.
Still, it's a damn impressive performance. I still wish UK had a decent roster other than Patterson and Meeks.

Dan was a post player, I'm not sure he would be shooting many 3s in those days anyway. He developed an outside jumper in the NBA, but not much of a threat in his UK days.
As a UK fan for over 25 years, this was the greatest game I have ever seen by a Wildcat. He was in the zone, and just never cooled off. Not for a second.
Goose Givens scoring 41 in the 1978 title game is still the best Wildcat performance ever because it was on the biggest stage of them all. It was a bit before my time, though. But to beat an arch rival on he road, after Bruce Pearl targeted UK when he took the job to dethrone as the Kings of the SEC, it was as sweet as it gets in my mind. My daughter will be delivered tomorrow. Best week ever.

Other than some of the past Wildcats teams and the two Championship Gators team is there any conference in any sport as overrated as ranked SEC men's basketball teams? Tennessee had no business being ranked as high as they were this season and them, Florida (besides the two championship teams), Alabama and every other SEC team that pops up for a season or two always goes home early in the NCAA Tournament. It's pretty sad that I have hope that the Gators can win the conference, not because they are that good, but because the conference is that bad.

The SEC is very - your choice of: a - down this year; b - evenly matched this year; c - young this year; d - much still a football conference.
Tradition holds that the SEC is always UK and _______ .
The Wildcats slipped off the grid due to inconsistent recruiting during the end of the Smith era, but Gillispie has them back on track. Billy D. needs to show that he can have success with a team that doesn't have Horford, Brewer, et al. as it's core. I think the pundits didn't know how much toughness and heart that Chris Lofton and Jajuan Smith brought to UT. Kevin Stallings is an excellent coach who has brought a level of consistency to Vanderbilt that was unheard of prefiously; it will be interesting to see if he can continue to keep it going there.
I personally think that LSU may be ready to go on a tear. John Brady always had talent and had that one F4 run, but he really wasn't a great coach. I think that Trent Johnson will be a great coach for LSU and that Louisiana produces enough talent to keep the Bayou Bengals rolling for years.
Arkansas has generally had a very good program, but they slipped under Stan Heath's watch. John Pelphrey should right that ship.
This year's SEC? I have to wear my blue glasses on my call there. I think the 'Cats have 2 of the best players in the SEC in Meeks and Patterson and they're just too tough to lose more than 4 games.

Phoenix have absolutely no one of worth on their bench. (With Barbosa out and Smush Parker as back up PG) As demonstrated by the Nash-less slide they went on. Jackson gives them a bench option and cover for Q Rich and the other JJ.
