OK...see I have this friend (Really...it's true)

Poor guy is all upset. See, he thinks he has a UTI, or a Bladder infection. So he went off to the doctor, and they did a urine test, (Chemical) eveything came back negative. So they sent him on his way...no meds, just..."it will pass"

2 days later...same thing for him. He always has the sensation that he has to pee!

He is driving me nuts. He doesn't have the net at work, so he calls me every 10 minutes to see what I have found on the web for him. ARGH!

So, do ya'll have any advice I can pass along, so he will stop bugging me. Anyone been through the same thing? As well, what the hell does a Urine test, test for? Like kidney stones or something?

Any advice would be great!

He should call a doctor. A different doctor.

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

Urine dip tests (i.e.: you pee into a cup and the doc sticks a chemically reactive strip into it) generally test for little extras in the urine, such as sugar, salt, protein, blood and pus etc.. If your pal has a UTI, his piss should be cloudy and have a really offensive smell (or progressively getting that way depending on how long he's had the infection). However, if the dip was negative I would speculate there is no UTI. Is he drinking a lot of fluids? How does he feel besides the need to pee?

Oh goodie, now I have someone to answer his questions. I am tired of telling him..."I dunno"

OK...this is what he has told me...

He feels like he has to go pee!
not burning, just uncomfortable
color hasn't changed, and no smell
no discharge (ewwwwwwwww)
no fever
no sickness

YAY...

So waddya think?

I read something about a NSU (Non Specific infection) that could be causing the problem. He drank over 5 litres of water a day yesterday, felt a little better I guess. He's all confused....

Anything info to get him off my back would be great!

Honestly, if you're trying to get him to not come to you for information? The best thing would be not to give him any.

Go to WebMD.com and look up URGENCY. That should give him plenty of clues.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

And he knows about WebMd. ha!

On reflection, Socks, I agree with Zim. It would be wrong for me to try and guess this guy's condition on the internet. He should see a doctor.

If he has no malaise, it could be that any infection is still fairly fresh, and these symptoms will come given time. I would suggest that he goes to the store and buys a measuring jug that he's happy to throw away. Keep a diary of what he drinks (volume and what (i.e.: coffee 500ml, OJ 250ml) and when. He should also keep a diary of when he takes a piss, specifically measuring the volume, and noting anything remarkable about the appearance/smell of his urine. As a rule of thumb, the IN column should pretty much match the OUT column at the end of each 24 hour period. Do this for three days. When he goes back to the doctor, at the very least the diary will evidence to the doctor that he has to investigate, rather than just placate your guy and send him on his way.

Your statement was *at work*.
I'm not sure what I would do if it were my friend, but looking for a medical answer on the internet doesn't seem really sane. What's he going to do if you find something? Go back to this doctor and say "Ha!"? Or hope for some over the counter Chicken Noodle ansewr?

If he doesn't believe this doctor's response, cough up the money and go to a different doctor. Or double check with the current doc for other suggestions.

He needs to get a doctor. A good doctor. I had the exact same thing happen to me and two days worth of antibiotics cleaned everything right up.

True, after he was shot and nearly killed early in his presidency, he came to believe that God had spared him in order that he might do good. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference."

Aren't there 2 different kinds of UTI testing? The one that they do right there in the doctor's office, which is more of a screening. And then a second, more definitive process (which annoyingly, takes a couple of days) done by sending the sample off to a lab? And it's not all that unusual to get a negative on the screening (even in the presence of more obvious additional symptoms), but a positive on the lab test. (Been there, done that. Antibiotics addressed the problem before the confirmation came back from the lab.)

Just a quick update,

I sent him off to the doctor because I got tired of his whining.

The doctor again did a urine test, and found that it was fine, no problems. The doctor recommended that they send off the sample for a "culture"...

BTW, I was reading online that Cranberry Juice can actually prevent urinary problems. See...there is more then just porn on the 'net.

Cheers!

Darryl..

The Kim stuff didn't hit me as being really bad until this week. She kidnapped a child and stole a car. Stupid. Boring. Pointless.
