I haven't seen N'dou fight before but I've heard things, yeah I've heard things. 31-1 with 30 KO's is not as impressive as it used to be; it really depends on the competition. It could be 30 bums, but I know his last 2-3 fights were against top fighters in their division and he blew them out.

Mayweather is one of my favourite fighters and I'm not gonna say he's bitten off more than he can chew. But I believe that if he can handle this guy like he says he will. A fight with De La Hoya would have to be taken more seriously. Not saying that N'dou is on DLH's level, but I wouldn't think Floyd fighting DLH would be such a crazy idea anymore.

The fight is on HBO Saturday night. Like I've said before, I believe that anyone can beaten; no one is invincible. Floyd and Roy seem to be exceptions but we'll see. I think this fight will be worth watching.

Mayweather is definitely not invincible. I watched him fight 2 years ago, the opponent is totally escaping me now, and he should have lost an easy decision but narrowly escapes with a win. I don't think N'Dou is going to present much of a threat, but the hell with DLH, if he steps up to 140 I could see him having all sorts of trouble with the fighters in that weight class (Tszyu, Mitchell, Judah, Gatti)

I believe you are referring to Mayweather-Jose Luis Castillo 1.

From the title of this thread, I thought this was gonna be a battle of the underdeveloped sci-fi/fantasy characters.

Yeah that was Castillo that Floyd was fighting that time. In their immediate rematch, it was a typical Mayweather fight: Him doing what he wanted and the opponent being frustrated to the point where they basically didn't want to fight no more.

There are plenty of intriguing fights at 140. I think Mitchell or Judah would be PPV-caliber, great fights. But they're not unbelievable; he has a chance to beat those guys. But against DLH, my initial reaction is that he'd get killed.

However with the style PBF has, he'd give anyone headaches. DLH can't outbox him so if PBF has a good enough chin, it could be interesting. I haven't seen him take a clean shot, except for that one against a weak Diego Corrales. So the jury is still out. N'dou will definitely check that chin.

If Kostya can get by Mitchell (which he won't) next year, PBF will probably try to go straight to him. I don't think Kostya would take that fight right away, Floyd would have to work through the rankings for it. Then there's the 147 division ruled Mayorga. So it's still a long hard road, but the way he handles this fight will tell if he can keep moving up.

Kostya Tszyu is going to kill Sharba Mitchell. Did you see their first fight? People have made careers out of underestimating Tszyu. I grant you he's getting old, but the only guy that can beat him at 140 is himself, if he doesn't want to fight.

Judah/Mayweather would be interesting, as they have similar styles. Of course, the one time Judah actually fought an A-list fighter he got completely embarressed. He's still got a ways to go to shed the "punk with a glass jaw" label, and fighting nobodies (including a guy who brags about dressing up in women's underwear) isn't going to do it. Judah needs to win a big match to get back in the picture, and maybe Mayweather could be it.

I watched Friday Night Fights last night and I fear that Floyd is going down tonight. Ndou is ranked #4 by the Ring (at 130, though) and Floyd is already looking ahead to a fight at 140 with Arturo Gatti. If Ndou doesn't freeze up he might have a decent shot against a guy looking past him.

EDIT: I also agree with MoeGates about Tszyu. I think Tszyu would beat Floyd (I think Gatti may as well) at 140, if they fought relatively soon.

Floyd wants to fight Gatti? That'd be a weird match. I can't believe nobody has yet figured out that Gatti/Mayorga is the money match of the decade.

I doubt you'll ever see Mayorga-Gatti. Mayorga is the 154-lb. world champ, though it seems like he could go out and lose at any moment, just because he's so flaky. Gatti is a bulked-up 130-pounder fighting at 140. No way Gatti moves up and fights Mayorga if there is a fight with Floyd out there.

I'd rather see Mayorga-Hopkins, if were moving guys out of their weight classes. And I'd love to see Gatti-Tszyu.

I thought Mayorga was at 147. And Mayorga-Gatti - even if it's not a purist's dream match - would make a shitload of money. That fight pratically hypes itself.

Gatti-Tszyu would also be good fight, although Tszyu would win easily. If I'm Arturo though, I'm thinking I've got one opportunity to make one huge payday right now, while the Ward fights are still in everyones mind. Right now Gatti's ability to draw money is light years beyond his ability to box. He should just put his name out there to everyone and fight whoever he can get the most dough from - and that guy's definitely Mayorga right now. Added into the mix is that Gatti actually has a shot to beat Mayorga, which would make him an even bigger draw, and would get utterly murdered by Floyd.

You are correct. My bad. I was thinking of Mosley.

I still think Mayorga is too big for Gatti, though. I take issue with your opinion about Gatti's talent. I think Gatti's boxing ability is outstanding when he "boxes". I thought he won all three fights with Ward, and the second Ward fight showed how good he can be. The Gatti who dominated that fight could beat Floyd Mayweather.

I'm not convinced Tsyzu could get Gatti out of there and I suspect Gatti would make it a long night for Kostya, even though the fight would likely end up a decision win for Tszyu.

Also, on Friday night Brian and Max mentioned a couple of fights that were just recently announced: James Toney-Jameel McCline (!) in February and Corrales-Casamayor II in March. Good stuff.

Well, that was a pretty solid dismanteling. Mayweather says he's going to step up to 140 now, which is probably a good idea.

Best part of the night? Listening to Roy "poor man's Muhammed Ali" Jones Jr. Jesus, he's tough to understand when he gets going.

Round 5 was pretty damn exciting. With Mayweather starting off strong, N'dou having a burst in the middle and Mayweather finishing strong. That was a total non-stop round.

N'dou kept getting nailed square in the head with shots that had some force behind them but wouldn't go down.

Excellent fight! I am now a believer. Floyd can beat DLH if he ever takes the fight. The only reason DLH would be able to beat PBF is because Floyd Sr. is in his corner. It may not happen but I'm definitely interested in watching that one.

With the style and reflexes that PBF have, he is untouchable. I forget the round but that part where he was on the ropes in his guard and was just twisting back and forth AND SMILING while N'dou was slugging away...even the PBF haters have to love that.

There is one possible hole in his defense that I see but no one has tried it yet. His chin stays well guarded but the top of his head on the left side is always open. And possibly a shot right down the middle may get through. A sharpshooter like Tszyu or crazy SOB like Mayorga may pull it off.

Kosta Tszyu is a very respectable champion who is great for boxing. However, I can't forget the 1st fight with Mitchell. Where Mitchell was whooping his ass until he started throwing him down cuz he knew his knee was bad. After the knee slowed him down, Tszyu pounded him. I know all is fair...blah blah blah. But it still don't make it right.

Has anyone ever noticed that stupid look he gives somebody when he gets hit with a good shot? Like "Hew dai you, wanka" Someone with enough speed will have him looking like that all night. Judah had that fight won but was too cocky, and the glass jaw didn't help either.

Evidently from the post-fight interview with Merchant, Gatti wants no part of Mayweather, and can you blame him? Just 2 fast 2 furious. I just wonder what he's gonna do next.

The Mayweather that beat Ndou is right up there with Roy for pound-for-pound best fighter. That was as impressive of a performance as I've seen. Complete domination against a good, game opponent.

I agree (shockingly) with Larry Merchant in that I'd like to see Floyd stay at 135 for a while and take on Lazcano and the like. I think Floyd would beat Tszyu, but the division at 140 is not as deep as it is at 135, and I think Floyd (at 5' 7" tall) would suffer if he kept moving up.

With Jones-Tarver Saturday, then Barrera-Pacquaio on the 15th this is shaping up to be quite a month for boxing.

Man, I almost forgot about that Jones fight for a second. Then Barrera is the following weekend. I guess they're trying to make up for that dry spell last month....it's working. Ah hell, Jones is on PPV, I might have to go to a bar or something to check that one out. Cuz that's probably gonna be a 9 on the 1-10 asswhippin scale.

On a side note: It's a damn shame that Derrick Gainer didn't follow RJ's advice and "bring ass" in his fight with Marquez. He seemed to have Roy's style but didn't the balls, or ass in this case, to follow through.

135 is deeper than 140? I know 140 had thinned out due to Paul "Michael Rappaport's long-lost twin brother" Spadafora and Leonid Dorin dropping out for various reasons, but 135 is really Mayweather and that's it, while 140 still has 4 or 5 really good fighters.

As for Tszyu/Judah - please. Tszyu had him figured out after the first round. He completely dominated him in round two for 3 minutes before the knockout. Yes, he looks stupid when he gets hit, yes his entrance with the Anna Nicole Smith-meets-Courtnet Love Russian pop singer (I'm as hard as rock inside, and I'm gonna knock you out tonight!) was the most laughable moment in boxing - until the Judah knockdown. Now THAT was a stupid expression.

Tszyu figured out Judah. He figured out Mitchell in their first fight also. I'm calling a third round KO for the Thunder from Down Under in the rematch. Mostly I want to see what the hell kind of ridiculous entrance Tszyu is going to do in RUSSIA for Christ sake. That should keep me laughing for weeks. Nothing against the Ruskies, but there pop culture is about 15-years behing the times, and their fashion sense is more dangerous than their nuclear arsenal ever was.
