Some pretty good ones from my teenage slasher favorites.

"Scanners" or "The Thing" should've been #1.

That was pretty awesome and gruesome at the same time. Pretty good if zombie gore is your thing. I always preferred the more inventive death scenes like in A Nightmare on Elm Street, or the Rube Goldberg-esque contrived killings of the Final Destination series. The scene where the guy is strangled in the bathroom is pretty hard to watch.

Here's a scene that was probably too obscure to make their list, from a Japanese movie called Audition: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_A8UYTH1EZs

I actually got farther through that list than I thought I would, but after the splinter went through the chick's eye, I said "OK, I'm done." Some pretty inventive death scenes there, but I was reminded why I don't like horror flicks at all.

I was kinda on the fence in deciding whether to go and see this movie at the theater, but it wasn't until I saw that commercial you're referring to that made me want to go see this.
