I definitely agree that the Rock/Jericho matches merit closer attention. They really developed chemistry, and seemed to improve psychology-wise with every match.
WyldeWolf1 The Man of 1,007 holds, making him 3 holds better than Chris Jericho!
I'll add the 7/29 Raw RVD vs. Benoit. It was that damn good. I also second the 5/20 Raw with RVD vs. Undertaker #1 Contenders match. Most of these matches are coming from free TV. A good sign.
i don't watch any puro or lucha, and i'm basically only running on wwe matches and a very small dose of us indy wrestling (2002 super 8 and ring of honor), so my picks will reflect that.
i haven't seen any wwe ppv's this year outside of wrestlemania (which i attended), but from what i can gather watching basically all wwe programming (except bottom line and after burn) i'd have to nominate rock vs hogan, more for mark-out value, atmosphere and sheer emotion than anything else. i think that match had me the most worked up about wrestling i've ever been, and in a crowd of 68 grand, i know that i was not the only one. i had never seen the jericho - hhh wmx8 match tapes, so yesterday i went back to watch it (it was booooring), and i watched hogan - rock again, and i was still marking out for every move. i watched the whole match with a big smile on my face. i've never been a "hulkamaniac", even as a child... but i became one for that night. that would definately be my top choice for MOTY, so far.
i'd also have to include christopher daniels vs american dragon vs low ki from ring of honor show #1 on 02/23/02, because that was just an excellent three-way, one of the best three-ways (maybe THE best) i've ever seen. want some crazy innovative weird spots? watch that.
nothing outside of those two matches has left me, at the end, going "wow, that was just awesome!" i've been kind of stale on the wwe matches as of late, outside of some marginally good cruiserweight matches and one or two okay to good matches put on raw or sd! weekly.

I disagree. The match was decent, but you could tell they hadn't faced each other before. I just gone done watching it a second time and I really didn't see anything THAT spectacular. I DO want them to feud however, so we can get more work from both of them (and if they faced each other at house shows it could only improve their matches tenfold), but this isn't anywhere NEAR my match of the year list. Not even close.
I RESPECT your opinion. Please respect mine. Or feel the wrath of Buddha!
J-Lo and Ja' Rule are the worst singing/rapping duo I've ever seen in my life (my response to the "totally live" performance of that annoying "Ain't it Funny" song at last year's VMA's. The show where everybody goes home happy and the winner's aren't really winners, they're just people randomly selected based upon their pop status).

While they hadn't faced each other before, I find that a good thing as they have more freedom in what they can do that nobody has seen from them before. I only watched it once, but it was by far the best thing on Raw, the only memorable match. Both Eddie and Ric Flair didn't have a great night. I liked the contrast of styles, the psychology of Benoit working on the arm, the kickout of finisher, etc. I may be biased as a fan of both guys, but I'll put it up against the other match of the year candidates.
As I said in the RVD/Benoit thread, I agree that their Raw match belongs up there with the MOTYCs. Then again, it is their first match. Last year I might have called Austin/Benoit on Raw a MOTYC until their SD! match a few days later overshadowed it. These two may well have matches in them that will make this one look like nothing special. Or Benoit may defect and not face RVD again for a long time. That would be a shame...

Since no one wants to say an Austin match was a match of the year contender, I would like to throw the Raw where it was Flair vs. Austin as the main event as a candidate. I will say I think Hogan vs. Rock is probably the match of the year, but there is still a few monthes to go.
Here are my list top ten list of candidates for this year.
Rock vs. Jericho - Royal Rumble
Flair vs. Undertaker- Wrestlemania 18
Hogan vs. Rock- Wrestlemania 18
Austin vs. Flair- Raw
Eddie vs RVD: Ladder Match- Raw
Rock vs. Kurt vs. Undertaker- Vengance
Brock vs. RVD- Vengance
Hogan and Edge vs. Chuck and Billy- Smackdown
Edge vs. Kurt- King of the Ring
Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy Ladder Match- Raw
A Fan- Now, I want to see the list of moments of the year.
