Just got my copy yesterday. Just an unbelievably gorgeous-looking game, especially on the 360. Everyone is rendered in amazing detail, especially for cutscenes. And yes, this is a Marvel geek's wet dream, with just about everyone featured, from the classic (Captain America, Dr. Doom), to the modern (Ultimate costumes, a very Snipes-like Blade), to the obscure (FIN FANG FOOM~!). The boss battles vary from all-out melees to the complex and interesting (the M.O.D.O.K. fight has one of the most bizarre starts to a boss battle I've ever seen).
But one of the best features to this game is that it truly is aimed at the comic fan, as Easter Eggs are just about everywhere. If you have interactions between heroes and their familiars, for example, the dialogue will get changed up slightly. A personal favorite for me is the exchange between Deadpool and Weasel (before heading off to Atlantis).
Deadpool: Weasel, I haven't seen you in weeks! Where've you been hiding? Weasel: In the hospital. You stabbed me in the leg. Deadpool: That's what happens when you try and take the last cheesy puff. Weasel: But it was my bag of cheesy puffs!
In terms of gameplay, if you've played X-Men: Legends, you'll pick this up in minutes. If you haven't...you'll still pick it up in minutes. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. And I don't need to mention how awesome this game's multiplayer is.
Highest recommendation! For comic fans that just can't wait, pick it up for the 360 and enjoy! For casual fans or comic fans with a sense of willpower, wait a month for the Wii version, which should REALLY be a blast!
TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: OCTOBER 1996 WWF: Mankind d. Undertaker in the first ever Buried Alive match at...WWF Buried Alive. Also, Steve Austin continued his efforts to bring Bret Hart back to the ring by turning on Brian Pillman, shattering his ankle in what to this day is known as "Pillmanizing".
WCW: Hulk Hogan d. Randy Savage in a main event no one cared about, but Roddy Piper came out immediately after to end Halloween Havoc with a bang. The Outsiders won their first WCW Tag Team titles by beating Harlem Heat.
I'm waiting for the Wii version, but I have to ask (add spoiler tags if the answer necessitates it): In a preview video I saw the Winter Soldier. Is he an actual playable character in the game??
The Winter Soldier is indeed in the game, but he's actually among the LONG list of villains you'll encounter. Not only will you find him in the first level...

If you unlock the Captain America comic, you'll play a hidden mission as Cap trying to take down the Winter Soldier.

So far, on my PS2, he's a villain only. He appears in the first level campaign and in a tangential character mission for Cap.
Love LOVE this game. Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman as playable characters. Fin Fang Foom on the Helicarrier. A secretary paging Tony Stark about meeting Ms. Bambi and Ms. Heather. A lot of fun here already. You hit the ground running.
I like the exclusion of the X-Men Legends health and energy management, but the I don't like the simplified stats menu. But the music is great, the graphics are tight, and the grab/punch combos are really effective.

Another great thing coming from a Fantastic Four geek...the fact that you could use them for the entirety of the game is so cool. Plus, when you are in Stark's tower, the receptionist announces that Johnny Storm would like to wish Ben Grimm a happy 65th birthday. AWESOME.
Deadpool continues to crack me up. When he levels up, he says the funniest stuff in the world.
No Hulk (though Bruce Banner makes an appearance), Kang, Baron Zemo, Dormammu, Kingpin, Serpent Society, Thanos, Alpha Flight, Quicksilver, Iron Fist, etc. makes me feel like there'll be another sequel. Especially since I thought Thanos was the last boss of this game up until it came out. Well, that and a video game has this long of a thread already on the W.
Hold nothing sacred and you'll never be dissapointed. Especially not this statement.
Looks pretty cool, but with the ridiculous amount of great games about to hit for the 360, I'll pass for now because I know I wouldn't be playing it in a week.
I think I was left a little underwhelmed after they used "ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY CHARACTERS" as a big marketing point for the game, but then the vast majority of those are non-playable characters.
And no Venom or Carnage? Come on. However, having Super-Srkull in there is awesome times 50.
I played most of this game with a few friends, and it is really fun, even though the first couple of missions are very similar. But Murderworld is the one of the most amazing levels I have ever seen; I loved everything about that level.
I'm not a comic book fan so a lot of the inside stuff is lost on me, but I still have to say that overall the dialogue is the weakest part of this game. There are so many incredibly corny lines and weird verbal interactions that I had to laugh at how bad it all was.
Finally, I want to name my first born son Dum Dum Dugan.
