I'm sure it's just because I'm bitter that I picked Detroit in my pool, but why, oh why, in the name of all that is holy, did Mornhinweg DEFER when he won the coin toss at the start of overtime?
Yes, it was windy, and yes, the Chicago kicker had missed two field goals. But jeeeeeeezumcrow, Chicago had just driven down the field to tie the game. Why would you give them the ball back when they've already got the momentum going their way?!
I expected him to be fired by the end of the season, but now I'm thinking he may find a pinkslip on his desk tomorrow morning.
Detroit fans must be livid.

how come you're so afraid of things that dont make any sense to you? do you water your raisins daily? do you have any raisins? is there anything that does make sense to you? are you afraid of twelve button suits? how come you're so afraid to stop talking?
Giving up the ball wasnt even the worst thing he did.WHY in the name of all that is holy would he accept that stupid penalty to put Chicago at 3rd and 18? If he had declined Chi wouldve had to punt the ball away. Ive always said that this guy was clueless. Can Marvin Lewis PLEASE get a job now as a head coach?

He is amazingly stupid. It almost looked like he wanted to lose the game.
From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:
DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?
SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.
I live in Kansas City, and I'm a Lions fan. My best friend is a Bears fan, so we decided to take the 6.5 hour drive to Champaign to witness this game. I looked over at him when they accepted the penalty, and told him if the Bears got the first down, I'd walk out. I should have done that. I don't have so much of a problem with kicking the ball to start OT, as the wind had picked up quite a bit, and Edinger was looking shaky in practice, but I feel like writing Marty a letter demanding that he repay me for ruining my weekend. On the plus side, it was fun listening to the Bears post-game callers complaining because they WON the game, and also the lambasting of Marty after the game. There were some other blunders by the coaches (why take a timeout at the end of the first half when you're just gonna run the ball the next play, and why no timeout before the tying field goal, and they should have at least challenged the touchdown, as it looked on replay like White might not have had possession with two feet in bounds, and you never know what might happen, if the play stands, all they lose is a timeout.) that made me shake my head in disbelief. But I will commend the Bears fans, as they could have left in the middle of the fourth quarter, but almost everyone stayed, and there was nothing more than a little harmless trash talking thrown my way.
BUT not the horrible (TM Bill Walto) decision to accept the third-down penalty and give the Bears another chase, rather than have them attempt a 50-yd FG into a stiff wind.
Sigh.

There is no excuse for kicking off after winning the OT coin toss. NONE!!! The idiocy goes straight up the chain in Detroit. Mornhinweg is an idiot, Millen is an idiot, and the Fords are idiots for hiring Millen and Mornhinweg. At least they were smart enough to draft Joey Harrington.

Exactly. If Vanderjact can hit a fifty yarder, into the wind, in the middle of a snow storm, then no coach should ever decide to defend the goal with the wind instead of recieving the ball.
I keyed on the coin toss because that's what I knew about (it was mentioned on the game I was watching). I didn't get the game on TV, so I was only able to constantly update the scoreboard on ESPN.com.
That said, I did wonder why it went from Chicago 4 and 8 from the Detroit 38 to Chicago 3 and 18 from the Detroit 48. I didn't put two and two together until somebody mentioned it in this thread.
I think someone else pretty much hit the nail on the head when they said that Detroit is now playing for draft position... I just wish I'd known that before making my picks this week
(I still think the coach needs to be fired, but there are plenty more reasons than a couple of bad moves against the Bears

Millen is further proof that just because an TV analyst is outspoken and thinks he's an expert, that doesnt mean he knows shhit.
Look at Quinn buckner, and Isiah Thomas for further evidence.

Or it tells you that there was never going to be a trade, the Steelers weren't actively trying to trade him short of saying "who will give us a million picks," and it was ESPN malarkey to hype the draft.
