When I lived in Tampa, he seemed to be at every single fandom convention that was held there. He was always super nice and would happily draw you something without even charging, unlike most artists today. I have a Alan Scott picture he did for me that I had colored by Ethan Van Sciver, of all people. This was in 2003 I think when Van Sciver was doing fill in issues of NEW X-MEN. I really hated his work on that book, but the two of them were sitting at the same table next to each other and I didn't want to embarass the guy by telling him I thought his work sucked.
This is kinda funny now because Van Sciver's work on GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH is fucking great.
No disagreement about any of this. I knew one day we'd be faced with Pratchett "hanging it up" so to speak, but I certainly had hoped he'd have a chance to ride off into the sunset and enjoy himself a little.
