Holy crap what an awesome fight. juan Diaz really put the pressure on Juan Manuel Marquez for seven-plus rounds, and he has things going his way, but Marquez hurt and cut Diaz in the eighth, and finished him with two knockdowns in the ninth. I have a feeling at the end of the year there won't be a better fight than this in 2009. In round five, Max Kellerman tossed out a Corrales-Castillo I comparison and I found myself nodding in agreement.

I think Pacquaio-Marquez III would be awesome, and Marquez called out Floyd Mayweather (!) after the the fight. Marquez-Diaz II wouldn't be bad, either.

Also, Rocky Juarez got kind of a gift draw against Chris John, but all three judges had the fight 114-114, which was both kind of weird and I suppose validates the decision.

I scored it 114-114 also. I thought it was pretty clearly rounds 1-2 and 4-7 for John, and rounds 3, and 8-12 for Juarez. It'd surprise me if any of the judges had it differently.

Diaz/Marquez was great, but if I'm Marquez I'm looking for money and only money right now. He's going to start showing his age (both ring and chronological) really soon, and when he does he's not a big enough name or draw to be able to afford going without 7, or at least mid-6 figure paydays from now one. If I'm him I skip the low paying gatekeeper fights at this stage of his career. Make another payday against Barrera. Move up in weight and fight any of the 140-147 guys who can draw. He's made enough bad financial choices in his career, I can'timagine he can afford any more.

I'm wondering if James Toney won't be able to make short work of the Heavyweight division when he heals. Wow. Who'd have ever thought you hear something like that. I actually thought Golata (if he could keep from losing it in the ring of course)
