It's a good time to be a gamer.
Impressions? An INCREDIBLE game.
- The controls are off the hook, and Power sldies w/ turbo return. A BIG difference now in the different weight classes. The whole "switching guys" thing is handled really well, and it adds a large dimension when it comes to item management. The specialized items is also a nice touch, and makes pairoing up guys even more interesting. For example, Para Troopa and Koopa Troopa are lightweights, and have the Triple Green/Red Shells as a special. You lose their advantage if you pair on of them with the heavyweight Bowser (you have to ride in a Heavyweight kart). But can you resist Bowser's HUGE spiked shell special item that takes up more than 3/4 of the track (ok, amybe not THAT big)?
I could (for Baby Luigi).
Awesome awesome awesome game. Buy it yesterday.

| #3 Posted on 20.11.03 0043.42 | Instant Rating: 6.44 | What makes this game is the new Battle mode. There are now three different types of battles. The first is the original balloon battle. There is also a bomb battle where you have to use strategy and time the bombs you throw. BTW, don't just throw them willy-nilly; you will lose points just as quickly if you don't use yo skills.
The third, and my new favorite battle, is the Shine battle. It's basically a game of Capture the Flag, with one car getting the Shine star, and the other player (s) chasing after you. If you get hit, you drop the shine, and then any other player can pick it up. It is timed so that if you have to have the Shine and keep it until time is up. I played it with two friends, and we had a Hell of a fun time with this battle.
The main game is great as always, with tons of cars and other stuff to unlock. You start with three cups of four races each, but there is at least one more cup to unlock. The only quibble I seem to have is that 50 ccs is very easy, but then 100 ccs is WAY harder. I haven't even tried 150 ccs because I'm too scared.
All in all, I enjoy the game a ton, but to get the full effect, bring two or three friends over and BATTLE ON!

I preordered it but didn't get it until a couple of days. It is a great time to be a gamer, although I must admit this is the first time my Gamecube had been opened since I got Soul Calibur 2. Great game but not half as fun as it can get until you get a couple (or 16) mates around. The tracks are lot more interactive and its really cool when you get fired through the cannon on the DK course or even just ramming into one of those duck things on Peach Beach. The extras are enough to keep me going, all I have at the moment is 2 new cars but I know there are new characters. Well worth it, if you cant get it think Christmas!
Insert shameless plug here
Shall I describe it for you or should I just find a box?

I've gotten gold on all tracks in 50 and 100cc, but my God in Heaven, is the 150cc ever frikking tough. It's about impossible(at my skill level anyways) and the best I've managed so far is a silver trophy on the Mushroom courses.
Ah well, at least its not super easy I guess.

All you need is more time. Earlier in the thread I talked about the disparity between 50 and 100CC, and I rescind that argument. After a little bit of work, I am now much better, and I only need to win the 150CC All Cup on Mirror Mode (I won't spoil it completely if you don't know what I'm talking about).
Yes, the battle mode and the original game are tons better with others. I'm just glad I have a roommate I can count on to get hooked on the game as much as I am. I also agree though that the game is going to get a little boring once I unlock all the games. That's why I bought and registered Mario Kart, Mario Party 5 and my Gamecube on Nintendo.com. Legend of Zelda collector's disc, HERE I COME!
