I'm going to a mania party this weekend, and I need suggestions on food stuff to bring. I want to stray away from the tired bag o' chips, and since my fry daddy is DOA that rules out buffalo wings and toasted ravioli. I saw a recipe for a buffalo chicken dip that I am thinking about doing, but any other suggestions would be welcome. Come on help a dubya out.

Stuffed mushrooms are good and simple. Remove the stems, fill with whatever you'd like (I usually stick with a blend of breakfast sausage and breadcrumbs) and bake.

Nachos are another route you could take if you feel like using the oven.

Hold nothing sacred and you'll never be dissapointed. Especially not this statement.

Mini burgers.

Anything with bacon.

This one sounds pretty good:

Smoked Salmon Dip

8 ounces smoked salmon
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup cream cheese
6 ounces { Sorry, you must be logged in to see this text! } White Extra Sharp Cheddar, shredded
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
Tortilla chips or crackers

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Crumble fresh smoked salmon in small pieces in mixing bowl (check for and discard any bones). Add mayonnaise, softened cream cheese and cheddar. Mix well so all flavors are blended together. Fold in chopped dill.

In an oven-proof dish, spread mixture evenly and bake for 10 minutes. Or, microwave until mixture is hot to touch. Serve with choice of tortilla chips or crackers on the side.

serves 4

For potlucks or parties, I've taken to making a spinach-crab dip. It's just a little variation on the spinach-artichoke dip and it's actually really easy to make. The single recipe serves about 6-8 and it's very easy to double. I think I got the original recipe off of a package of imitation crabmeat but I can't remember which one, and adapted it. Anyhow...

8 oz cream cheese
1 cup mayo
1/3 cup onions
2 Tbsp garlic powder (or more, to your taste)
1/2 box of (thawed) frozen spinach, drained & chopped
8 oz imitation crabmeat, chopped (in your grocer's seafood case - I've found this works better than the canned stuff)
3 oz (about 3/4 cup) Parmesan cheese, grated
Optional: 2/3 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Mix the cream cheese and mayo (easiest if cream cheese is at room temperature - a plain old metal spoon works best). Add in everything else and mix. Bake in a small casserole dish with a glass lid at 375 degrees in a preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the dip browns on top. Serve hot or cold (I prefer hot)- also goes really well in a bread bowl.

If you're looking for something with bacon, this ( has also gotten pretty decent reviews, but gets pretty nasty-looking when it's cold.

Maybe it's just because I live here, and there is no way I would put this city in the top 2, but New Orleans ought to be somewhere up there. The Saints have won the fewest playoff games of any team in the entire NFL and they have been around since 1967.
