Does anyone out there in Wienerland agree with me that the lack of Managers in modern day $|>0r+z 3|\|+3r+41|\||\/|3|\|+ (What?!?)(Sports Entertainment.)(What?!?)(Wrestling.) (What?!?) (Wrasslin') (What?!?) (Jesus I can see how this is annoying)

Anyway.. Where was I? Oh yeah.. does anyone agree that the lack of Managers seems to be a limiting factor on the effectivity of heels in modernday wrestling? It seems that back when you had people like Bobby Heenan and Jim Cornette Heels were somehow more threatening, with the larger than life crazed old/weak white guy and his thugs backing them. Now that its not only every face for himself but every heel as well, with the faces outnumbering the heels 4-1 (because everyone wants to be cool) its just not the same.. and somehow not as believeable

Managers were a good thing because you could have a guy with no mic skills get over on the managers back. You don't see that as much nowadays, people reach a certain level but never pass it, often due to their mic skills (I'm thinking Benoit here).

Maybe this nWo thing could be good in the long run because it'd get the manager (as opposed to the valet) back into wrestling, assuming rumours of Jimmy Hart coming in with Hogan bear out.

I definitely miss the days of the heel manager.

Steven Richards could fill this role for any number of guys right now... teaming him with Kronik was a good idea in that respect, even if Kronik were a bad one...

When WCW did that horrible Booker T vs Stevie Ray/Big T/Harlem Heat 2000 debacle, its only saving grace was Clarence Mason's managing...

I had more to say, but I'm drawing a blank.

It's hard now, since face/heel turns happen so often. I remember in the old days when a heel with a manager turned face, he usually ended up going against his old manager.

Were any managers faces before the Wrestlemania days of Hillbilly Jim and Cyndi Lauper? Even Albano was a heel manager until around that time.

I wish Skandor Akbar had made the jump to one of the Big Two, even though there's no way he would be able to do anything post 9-11. Long live Devastation Incorporated!

I'm still a big Bill Alphonzo/Sinister Minister/Jim Cornette fan myself. I these guys would fit nicely in the WWF paired off with the right talent. Stevie Richards and Raven would also make good manager/wrestlers. At least one heel manager would be nice for an old school heel stable. Paul Heyman would rule also.

With the role the McMahons have taken on TV, you could (and I do) say that Stephanie has managed Triple H, Vince has managed The Rock (alobng with the rest of the corporation) and Shane has managed several guys, such as Benoit, just for short periods of time.

Alerted to the From The Vault match last night on Excess by my brother. I'm not saying Hogan/Andre was a five-star affair, but I sure miss Heenan. *No* heel manager in the world compared to him. Seeing him try to pep up Andre over in the corner, getting pelted by garbage during the ring-cart ride back. Awesome.

Also, I was *shocked* by the lack of signs in the crowd. There were like 6 of them. Total.

I agree with WTF that it would be tough to do managers with all the rapid fire heel/face turns.

Easy solution......STOP ALL THE RAPID FIRE HEEL/FACE TURNS!!!!!

And put me down for wanting Bill ALfonso back with RVD.

I agree TOTALLY about Alphonso, although, he seemed to be different than most "managers" he was not good at all on the mike, he was all about in ring, distracting everyone...which is why I feel he could fit in perfectly in the WWF.
It would be a GOOD thing to do, if they are turning RVD heel. RVD could be the overconfident, cocky, arrogant, yet dangerous threat in the ring, combined with Bill running around with that whistle constatly going, and always quick to toss a chair, and distract the ref/wrestlers...
Just my 2 cents...

Having Alphonso manage Sabu and RVD came in handy when setting up spots.

I miss the managers old school style. I miss all the small promos too.

Another good thing about Alphonso was that he actually brought out some personality in RVD. I'd much rather see Van Dam bust out his Phonsie impression after listening to The Manager Of Champions' constant whistling and nonsensical ramblings than any more cool guy "whatever" promos.

Dude, totally. I was just watching one of his best of tapes, and hey seems more comfortable, and has someone to "bounce" of off, daddy-o. And that impression had me fooled at least once.
Other "managers" who should be used, I feel:
Cyrus
Sinister Minister
Dawn Marie (or used as a valet)
Mike Sanders

The only problem with reuniting RVD and Alfonso is that RVD is currently a face.

Fonzie as a face could be annoying. Fonzie as a HEEL... there was the stuff of legends. His heel-ref-because-he-enforces-the-rules routine was a thousand times more effective than anything Nick Patrick has ever done.

Technically, Foley even managed the R4dicalz upon their entrance to the WWF (albeit as a face, and a great victim for their heel turn.)

I believe there is a difference between coming out with.., and managing someone.
Shane with show, benoit is borderline. But Foley managing the R4dz? He invited them in once and then talked to them about contracts before tagging with them and being vandalized by them..

What makes someone a manager anyways? And what is the line between manager or valet?
I remember them going on about Trish managing T&A and later Val because she took care of the business side, same with Terri..but Stacy is just a valet imo just like Debra with JJ and Owen, although they claimed she managed

What would a male valet do? Would those be that whole entourage EZ Money had in ECW?
Oh..the questions *boggle*

I thought a great manager was the Japanese guy in whiteface that came out with Hakushi. GODDAMN, Hakushi was just a cool gimmick overall...the WWF dropped the ball on that one.

I was born in a manger, like that other guy. You know, he wore a hat?

That was Shinja (if my booze addled brain isn't failing me, which it frequently does). And Hakushi did rule, just a shame after the Bret fued he was depushed so far. I mean, Barry Horrowitz? For crying out loud....

Plus male managers could work. As I said somewhere else, if Jimmy Hart comes in with Hogan as some rumours said, we might see if they can still work in todays WWF. I don't see why male managers couldn't work, purely because now they'd be a novelty amongst all the female valets. Stevie Richards for "the Brain 2k2"! The campaign starts here.
