No, but what he can do is show up at every Lesnar match. Lesnar has a match, Benoit is at ringside. Lesnar can't concentrate on his opponents because he's too preoccupied w/ Benoit. Benoit does the same to Heyman, following him around. Lesnar has a couple near-losses, is paranoid, and finally he's at his breaking point. Benoit tells him all he needs to do is get Heyman to grant him a title shot, a title shot he rightfully earned. Lesnar threatens Heyman, who is already paranoid about what Benoit could do to him, and finally Heyman reluctantly makes the match. Benoit running to Vince would be like running to the teacher to tattle on another student.

He doesn't want *a* World Title, he wants *Brock's* World Title. Brock disrespected Benoit (making him "tap out" when he was unconscious). Brock spit on everything Benoit has accomplished, all the years he's spent in the business. Starting out in the Hart Dungeon, doing small shows, working in Japan, ECW, WCW, all over the world. Lesnar basically showed Benoit he has absolutely no respect for him. What better way for Benoit to teach Brock respect (and to stick it to Heyman) than to beat him and take his title at the biggest show of the year? It's not merely winning the title from Brock, it's teaching him respect. Deep down, Heyman knows that that is what it is all about, and that's why he realizes that Benoit threatening to go to Raw to go after HHH is an empty threat.

It's not just "beating Brock" (which he did already if not for the ref being knocked out) or "winning the World Title", it's about the lack of respect that Lesnar showed him after that match.

'Cause Triple H is the greatest World Heavyweight Champion to ever live, not some second rate paper champion like Brock Lesnar. Triple H is Ric Flair, Jack Brisco, and Harley Race all rolled into one. It is an honour for Chris Benoit to even have the opportunity to wrestle him. Brock Lesnar is small potatoes, Triple H is the real champion and Chris Benoit wants to beat the very best.

Duh.

How do you know what Heyman wants? Heyman's character can be adjusted a number of different ways with many different kinds of reactions to help sell the story. You're seeing this just one way.

All I'm saying is that Benoit, being the Rumble winner, had the leverage to challenge HHH, too, and that put him in the best position possible to leverage a title shot out of Heyman and Brock. That's what happened on TV. WWE did not play up that fact, which is the problem.

Yes, he had a grudge with Brock Lesnar, but the WrestleMania 20 main event title shot is paramount to any hatred or personal feelings Benoit may have towards one particular wrester. Benoit taught Brock "respect" several times. It was well established that Benoit was better and that Brock was afraid of him.

But, ultimately, and again, the reason we are in such conflict over these lame hypothetical angles is because there are two World Titles in WWE right now. I really don't see the big deal with being screwed out of one title, when you can just go to the show and get that other one. It doesn't make you look any more cowardly.

It makes the champion look cowardly for driving all of his competition away with red tape instead of beating them in the ring. That's why HHH looked like such a stronger champ than Brock. HHH beat all of his opponents while Brock, as a heel, ran from them.

You're trying to keep this as an angle that is entirely SMACKDOWN!-oriented, keeping it just between Benoit and Brock. I'm saying that it could (and should) have been much bigger than that. This is WrestleMania 20. The stakes need to be raised, and the value of the World Titles needs to be raised. HHH should have been involved, because the World Title match at WrestleMania 20 should be one that spans and impacts the organization as a whole and not just one of the brands.
