Imagine the Olympics had pro wrestling as a sport. You judge the countries by how good the matches are. Who would you put in the selective countries

Here's mine

Canada - Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit... reserve: Lance Storm

USA - Kurt Angle & Steve Austin... reserve : Triple H

Japan - Tajiri & Liger... Reserve : Taka

Mexico - Juventud & Super Crazy... Reserve:La Parka (chair power)

England -William Regal & Normal Smiley... Reserve: Dave Taylor

Australia- Big muscle guy that was on Nitro & Outback jack (loved that guy)

I'm actually drawing a blank on other countries if you can add 2 or 3 people to make a roster that would be great

Fit Finley - Ireland
Ludvig Borga - Finland ohh the evil Finn
Aldo Montoya "Portuguesse man0'war(justin credible)- Portugal

i'm confused...are you basing the list retrospectively or by current wrestlers? you've got stone cold, whose actual wrestling has a bit to be desired, and then outback jack, who must be like 70 now.
if you're talking retrospectively, how about moondogs rex and spot (parts unknown).

I'm pretty much talking about right now putting a team together for the olympics.

I but outback jack because I can't think of a damn wrestler from Australia so lets but him in there.

Actually I think Austin v. Angle is the best US match out there right now.

I almost asked what the purpose of a worked competition would be in the Olympics. Almost.

Take it from there. :p

Look out for that Parts Unknown team!

Uganda--Kamala and Akeem [never said where in Africa he was from..might as well be Uganda!] Reserve: Idi Amin, since I'm sure he could have wrestled had he not been busy killing people.

Russia--Ivan and Nikita Koloff! Reserve: Nikolai Volkoff.

New Zealand--Bushwackers, duh...though they'd have a better shot in their Sheepherder incarnation. Reserve: Rip Morgan.

Singapore--Kevin Sullivan and The Great Kabuki [Sullivan was billed as being from Singapore in at least one of his NWA/WCW stints] Reserve: Yoshi Kwan, or anyone else we can find who is Asian but not Japanese.

I'm no amateur wrestling expert, but don't wrestling teams have more than two guys? And aren't they different weight classes unlike Benoit and Jericho who are about the same size. Oh well, even if it was this way I think i'd take Kurt Angle and Curt Hennig as the American team, cause Hennig is PERFECT! Also, I'd take Lance Storm over Chris Jericho in a heartbeat any day of the week.

Isn't that right Lance?

Wasn't Nikita also from Lithuania? I think this was said during his heel run and feud with Sting. Anyway, I think that WCW Special Forces team would be a force to be reckoned with, though The Outer Regions of Your Mind team could make waves if Damien Demento could find a partner. Is there anybody who could team with Killer Khan for the Mongolian team?

I was waiting for someone to say that.

And how can anyone say that Austin leaves some to be desired as a wrestler? That is BS

Austin's a damn good wrestler. He used to be friggin awesome. His knees and neck have deteriorated to the point where he no longer rocks the world, but merely just kicks large amounts of ass.

As to the Olympic team, if it were a serious competition, I'd take Angle and Scotty Steiner for the USA team. If I need a reserve wrestler, perhaps Brock Lesnar.

As for just judging how good the matches are, I'd go with Angle (again), and Malenko (I heard he was born elsewhere, but he lives in Florida, and I don't remember him being announced from anywhere else). Have Curt Hennig coach, even though neither Angle or Malenko need many pointers.

Damn. I could barely pick better teams myself.

Is it true that Kurt Angle will go into training for the 2004 Olympics?

... That's what he said. I think his body's just going to be too damn broken down to get back on the Olympic train. If, by some miracle, he can make the squad ... the ratings would go through the roof. I mean, WHAT a story.

As far as making "Pro Wrestling" a sport in the Olympics -- well, Canada would obviously rule the Earth. Storm, Benoit, Jericho, BY GAWD TEST (ha!), Edge, Christian ... and I would figure Bret Hart would come out of retirement to compete for Olympic Gold.

"Ohh, do I care? I don't even care. That's OK. It's just a PIECE of what I really wanted from you, Ric Flair. THIS IS WHAT MAKES YOU TICK!! This is what makes you tick ... from the inside out. And, I just took a piece of you. You haven't been beat up properly!! But I'm gonna do that for ya, yeah. This isn't all I want from you, Flair. I want the whoooole Nature Boy. I want the whole Flair package!! You call yourself the Real World Wrestlin' Federation Champion. Well, I guess I am now. And, after what you did to Elizabeth -- I guess you couldn't make me any madder than I was before I went into the ring, but somehow YOU DID IT!!! Made it possible, yeah. Now I'm gonna get the rest of him. Doesn't matter -- in the street, parking lot; doesn't even maaatter to me, yeeah. 'Cause I'll do anything to win. If I didn't PROVE IT, I'll prove it next time ... oooooohhhh yeaaaahhh!!"

If my memory serves correct, and assuming USA Wrestling hasnt changed thier format for making the team. Angle would get a series of byes. Returning World or Olympic champs dont have to wrestle until the finals of of the Trials. Now seeing as Angles been out of the game for a while, he may have to start from scracth. which is alot more difficult. You have to win or place in a series of tournaments, then win the Olympic trials. (Best 2 out of 3, I think) Its like wrestling 5-10 matches versus 2-3. That extra rest is a big deal.

If anyone else knows if anything has changed in reference to the Olympic ladder, please feel free to correct me (Ive been out of the game for 7yrs so memory is foggy)

I like the idea and was thinking about it the other day during the judging debacle - if FIGURE SKATING can be an Olympic sport, then why can't professional wrestling matches? Give each duo (or, have seperate singles and tags divisions) twenty minutes to work a match, which can be judged like skating is, with points going for:

-Realism of the match
-How interesting the match's story was
-Interesting spots, etc.

Also, one judge from a different country, of course. And I guess Meltzer could be the US judge.
And of course, since each country wants to send their best, it's be more like this:

Canada: Benoit and Bret Hart (I'm thinking he would come back for the Olympics )
US: Austin and Angle
Japan: Misawa and Kawada
Mexico: I dunno, but they'd get killed on the 'realism' part
UK: Regal and Finlay

Forget Canada or the US, Japan would mop up in this probably.

You could also do a 'freestyle' where realism counts less, but that would basically be sending a bunch of guys off on a suicide mission to see who could hit the biggest and baddest high spots, so on second thought, no. :)
