Hey, I'm working on creating a Fantasy Draft guide for Gamefaqs. Right now, I'm just working on getting down who goes in what round and to what pick number when the computer is left to choose. For those of you with the game, do any of you have any tips or strategies you like to use when you draft for a new franchise?
I usually do best with around the 13th pick, as I can pick up Peyton Manning and Ricky Williams in my first two picks, then build a solid defense after that.

Year after year, the United States has gone to elaborate lengths, spent enormous sums, taken great risks to build and keep weapons of mass destruction. But why? The only possible explanation, the only possible use they could have for those weapons, is to dominate, intimidate, or attack.
The following post expresses the opinions of a raving Jerichoholic. He is biased, opinionated and bitter. You have been warned.
Mixing in some offensive line guys with the defense is a good idea. See if you can get a good tight end, one that can block and catch, or maybe a fullback. The effectiveness of Manning is very limited if you don't have anyone beside Marshall to throw to.

I've found I can usually get away with an OLine that's in the 70's. I usually pass up older guys for younger, so most of them improve. Also, with Williams as an 86 HB, and at least two mid 80's WR I usually have plenty of offence. The main problem for me, is I usually end up with great line backers, a decent D-Line, but only average Cornerbacks.

The fact that Brian Urlacher always goes first round makes me a sad sad man.

Defense Defense Defense. I usually grab a big defensive player first pick(Ray Lewis or Warren Sapp, usually), then take one offensive playmaker in the second round(Sometimes Ricky Williams, sometimes a wideout), then build my D-Line. I'll usually take another playmaker then, then build my secondary, then finally take O-Line, and Linebackers and such.
If you've got a great defense, you can get away with someone like Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson as your QB, and they will put up career level stats, with pro bowl bids, usually.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.

While I somewhat disagree with you on where to take offensive lineman, you have the greatest avatar of all time.

The thing about O-Line, is if you take young, they develop QUICKLY. So you don't need to take the very best, just take rookies and second year players. And after I saw this avatar on the Patriots newsgroup, I knew that it would be permanently attatched to my name :)

Now, personally, I'm not big on the fantasy draft thing, as I like building an existing team into a 99 rated powerhouse.
But I'll still give you some tips. First pick, go with Tony Gonzales if he is still available, as he is still young, relatively cheap, and is just plain unstoppable. After that just go with the youngest, best, and cheapest players you can find, preferably defensive guys. Brett Favre is one of the highest rated QBs, but he'll do you no good when he retires a few years later. Or you could go the opposite route and get all older, but good guys, and make highly unbalanced trades with the idiot computer teams afterwards.
Oh, and get Aaron Brooks at QB. He is an 84 who is young, fast and won't break the bank.
