From the sometimes-catty Marc Berman of mediaweek.com:
Cartoon Network has acquired three new anime series that will be broadcast during Adult Swim, its late night block of animation targeted to adults 18-34. The three series are Lupin the Third (which will air Monday to Thursday at 12 a.m. ET beginning on Monday, Jan. 13), Reign and Trigun.
And AOL-TW's stock went down because of THIS? I know I've only seen Mamo and Cagliostro (which rules the fucking world in my book -- never book an anime in a video game ), but I am stoked for this.

I've heard a rumor that Cartoon Network is going to get rid of the Adult Swim anime block sometime in January. This news, to me puts the veracity of that rumor into question. Has anyone else heard of this?
I thought there might be more expansion than contraction. Adult Swim's done pretty well for them, plus they can feed off the synergy of Kids WB! if they need to (see: Yu-Gi-Oh!).

Lupin is also, for you "Cowboy Bebop" fans on the board one of the elements they based "Bebop" upon. Without Lupin and Fujiko there would be no Spike and Faye.
Hearing that "Lupin III" and "Trigun" were coming to Adult Swim (which isn't being eliminated, just extended into Midnight Run's slot with "Futurama" and a few other shows)
But they're running "Gundam: Char's Counterattack" before they stop the weekend uruns so at leats they're going out with a bang before the daily installments start.

I just *knew* Spike had a resemblence to the wolf... but Monkey Punch didn't create Bebop, right?

aren't there like 200+ shows of lupin? i read that in their promo junket for the DVD release coming in like a month or two...
DDP: Well, there's this little passage I got memorized, Diamond Dallas 25:17. Sort of fits this occasion:
"The path of the bookerman is beset on all sides by the inequities of the talented, and the tyranny of workrate freaks. Blessed is he, who in the name of tradition and sports entertainment carries the stiffs through the matches of Nitro, for he is truly the workrate's keeper, and the finder of lost quality. And I will lay the smack down upon thee with great vengeance and furious roid rage those who attempt to outwrestle and expose my brothers. And you will know my name as the Bookerman, when I lay my catchphrase upon thee!"

Nope, and what's more, Monkey Punch didn't create Lupin, really--he's a character from French novels. Monkey Punch based his Lupin off of them and "Bebop" based their characters off of Lupin.
And I forgot there's also be no Jet Black without Jigen. Jigen is a badass dude.
Trigun rules the world, Lupin rules the world, and I can't wait to see what Reign in like.
Interestingly enough, Trigun was offered to CN when Adult Swim started but they supposedly turned it down because of the "heavy gunplay", then immediately made themselves look moronic by bringing (my favourite animes series EVER) Bebop in.

I read the news, and NOW I HAVE TO BUY NEW PANTS. Lupin III on my TV four nights a week? 150+ episodes of crunchy 1977-series Lupin goodness? This is off-the-charts good news.
Trigun is a nice bonus (great series, and now I won't have to shell out for the last three tapes I'm missing).

Great that everyone likes the new "acquisition," but if this Lupin takes my Space Ghost off the air again, I will officially deam it the devil and damn Lupin for all eternity...
Space Ghost is on the "comedy" Adult Swim that airs Sunday nights. The "anime" Adult Swim airs Saturday nights, but I guess now it'll be during weeknights, which still won't touch the Sunday night one. I watch both versions regularly and they are damn good television.
Space Ghost rules. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Home Movies, Harvey Birdman: Attourney at Law, and The Brak Show also rule. Mission Hill is pretty good, and The Oblongs is twisted fun, but Ripping Friends is too terrible for me to watch. Oh well, they can't all be winners.
A shark on whiskey is mighty risky, a shark on beer is a beer engineer.
I THINK the Comedy one will stick around on Sundays, but the weeknight 2 hour block will be half comedy/action.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Saturday block stays on as well, since with the acquisition of "Futurama," "Trigun" and "LupinIII" I'm not sure where "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" will air.
In any case, ain't no way SG:C2C is going off of CN. Cartoon Network has never ever taken their in-house shows out of rotation. They may bury them in the late night/early morning timeslots, but they are always there.
I may be alone in this, but I always hoped "Saddle Rash" woulda gotten picked up for a Adult Swim run. The castoff shows from other places like "Mission Hill," "Oblongs," and the godawful "Ripping Friends" don't do much more for me than take up valuable airtime.

Didn't they air Saddle Rash a couple weeks ago? It was pretty funny. Everything but the Ripping Friends is good stuff.

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.
Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms
However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

Yeah, they ran it again as part of their "premieres" thing. Out of all of the Adult Swim premeries I thought it was the best.
No disrespect to Evan Dorkin intended but "Welcome to Eltingville" sucked. Just. . .excruciatingly unfunny. Only John K's Hanna Barbera parodies were worse.

I'm pretty sure Toonami's Midnight Run is moving back to Saturday Nights b/c a)Saturday Adult Swim was attracting too many young viewers who stayed up cause it wasn't a school night b)they gotta put Midnight Run somewhere, and if it's running 7 hours like I've heard, it's pretty damn sure gonna reach into the evening.

the Lupin DVD coming out in Jan is being advertised as being new for Adult Swim in 2003...

An expansion? Excellent! My fears have been assuaged! And now I get to kick my friend's ass who told me about it being eliminated (Go figure, he said he read it off of some news site on the internet).
I feel like I'm alone here, but Mission Hill is my favorite of the Adult Swim Comedy shows. I mean, I love everything else (except Ripping Friends....I'm with the rest of you on that one! And I just caught my first episode of the Oblongs last week....holy crap was that crazy!), but that show fits in the best with my own humor.
And I would love to see Toonami's Midnight Run go back to a long block on Saturday nights, it's original incarnation. They damn well better start showing Robotech again!! That still ranks as the greatest thing Cartoon Network has ever done, in my opinion! I know, I know, I can find it on DVD, but I just like knowing that it's on American TV somewhere.
Anyway, with all this great news, the TiVO's gonna be real active. All I have to do now is go out and get one.......D'oh!
In the midst of all this great discussion, where's the love for Trigun?? Because in my book, the more shonen anime we can get, and the less shojo, the better. Do we really need Sailor Moon anywhere near a valuable timeslot, when it could be given to something such as......oh....Rurouri KENSHIN? :D
rurouni kenshin rocks subbed, but i've never heard a dub of it...nor do i want to.
