I don't think I can forgive this franchise for throwing away Rivers and LT's prime years and shutting their own window with the Norv Turner hire. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Yeah, I kinda agree with this sentiment. He was a phenomenal, all-world, first ballot kinda running back, but I was never down with him getting the initials. It'd be like if there was a great basketball player in the 2000s who people took to calling MJ.

Comically ironic that you would direct this at younger readers, who in fact are the ones most likely to say "Lawrence WHO?"

I was poking light fun at the fact that one of the better/best running backs of his generation and the first thing some people feel compelled to do is complain that people who aren't LaDainian Tomlinson shortened his name to his initials.
I really couldn't give a monkeys what people call him, but I kinda feel like people commenting on his retirement might say "Dude was awesome!" or "he was awesome, but he never did nowt in the playoffs!" rather than rehash a decade old (and really quite inconsequential) debate about a nickname.

I can multi-task. =)
Also, every time someone calls him LT some of us are going to have the same knee-jerk reaction, from now until eternity. Sorry, regardless of who gave it to him, the nickname is just a bit ridiculous in my estimation.

I know! And I largely agree with you, I just thought it ridiculous you were the first person to mention, hey, dude was pretty good.
LT will always be Lawrence Taylor to most people of our generation, but someone else having the same initials doesn't diminish his legacy in the least. Lawrence Taylor was sufficiently awesome every player in the NFL from now until eternity could call themselves LT and his place in football folklore would be secure.
But again, this debate was done to death during the course of the other LT's career, so we could probably let it go now and get on with our lives.

Nicknames. Not initials. And I know that's an odd hair to split, but it needs to be split.
