<--- obsessed with numbers

So, we find out that Austen is 51 (huh?) and 108 (possibly the most important number on the show) belongs to someone named Wallace.

I'm trying to find some renewed significance in the compass bearings that people had to use to travel to and from the Island...325 for Michael, 305 for Frank.

Is turning the Frozen Donkey Wheel below the Orchid similar in any way to turning the Mirror?

EDIT: WOW - tagging it with Numb3rs was NOT on purpose. I really am obsessed. Sorry - please change.

My first thought was that 108 was going to be Desmond, since he's the only major character who's not on the Island already. 'Wallace' is also a Scottish name, and it makes sense that Des and Penny would be under an assumed name to stay off of Charles Widmore's radar....so could Desmond be Wallace? Though the ancientness of the lighthouse wheel makes me think it isn't up to date with current names.

Real interesting episode. I like the idea that Jacob wanted Jack on the trip because he knew he'd wreck the mirror. Perhaps Jacob doesn't want the Monster to look at the mirror and figure out that someone is on the way?

David Shephard's mother: Sarah, Jack's ex-wife? Or, since she was never named, I suspect it's a more interesting option like Juliet, Penny, Libby or Ilana.

Haven't nearly processed it enough to provide anything worthwhile - except to say that Evil Crazy Claire is maybe the scariest person on television since BOB on Twin Peaks and I have no idea why. Maybe because she was the sweetest and most innocent character on the show for three and a half years and the dichotomy is horrifying. Whatever - I'mma have nightmares.

Yeah, yeah. :-)

Are we supposed to be thinking that there are only 360 candidates? Can there be no more than 360 people on the Island at any one time? * We're being inudated with circles. I've hypothesized that Smokey doesn't like any circles (not just ash circles). The loophole he exploited has to do with breaking a circle, and it has to do with Locke's number: 4 (4th degree of the circle).

* Remember last season when Richard and Horace were talking about the truce between Dharma and the Others? The actual complete text of the truce (lostpedia.wikia.com) was included with a special edition of the Season 5 DVD. Apparently Horace presented a draft truce to Richard. Richard amended it heavily. I'll spoiler font it just in case, but one of Richard's revisions was:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
The maximum population of D.I. members cannot exceed 216 at any one time on the island

My thought was that the person coming to the Island was Widmore.

Claire's crib = super creepy.

Nah, we saw Des in the military under his own name of Hume...

The other question this episode raised for me is: why does alternate universe Jack have an appendectomy scar from when he was a kid? Back in the real timeline, he didn't have his appendix out until he was an adult (when Juliet took it out).

rewatching on Hulu throughout the morning instead of working...

No surprise to see Jack as a failed father in the slideways life yet it seems by the end that he has a shot at redemption.

No surprise to see Jack act impulsively and smash the mirrors in the Lighthouse because jack is an act first, think later kind of guy and we see how well that has worked for him.

and final Jack note, want to see him get all crazy ? Quote Christian to him.

How much is Emilie de Ravin loving her character right now ? She takes a year off and gets come back to a more brutal & scary Rousseau v2.0. I am loving it. The inevitable Claire vs Kate throwdown should be epic.

and if Fake Locke is at her tent, doesn't that mean Sawyer is there too ? How glad will Jin be to see him ?

That's the point. Alterna-Jack clearly doesn't remember having it done as a kid, because it happened to Island-Jack on the island. I think little things from each "universe" will leak into the other, leading to an eventual merging of the 2.

Didn't he also find a cut on his neck in the airplane bathroom during "LA X Part 1", and acted like he didn't know where it came from?

Also, why did Hurley think that the skeletons could have been him and Jack after a bad time-travel trip ... Hasn't it been established that one of the skeletons was female (and that their clothes have been around for 40 years, not since "dinosaur times")?

Hurley's not the brightest bulb on the circuit and I don't think he was in the caves very much in season 1. I think he was just throwing the possibility out there. Also, I think he remained on the beach, in hopes of a rescue, with the other half of the crash survivors. Not sure, since Hurley didn't seem to get much attention (from a writing standpoint at least) until the final 1/3 of season 1.

Claire's "Friend" brings up all sorts of questions about who the "Christian" she was hanging out with was. Is it possible that the "Christian" from Season 4 was really the Man-in-Black? There seems to be a subplot about dead bodies in caskets being used as a vessel for either the Man-in-Black or Jacob. Did Jacob use the "loophole" with Christian's body and did the Man-in-Black simply copy the procedure with Locke's body? Or was it the Man-in-Black both times?

I think we're right about the two universes merging. I'm also curious if the appearance of Jack's alternate universe scars coincide, timeline-wise, with when he received them in the real timeline. So if we check back on Ben Linus the teacher in a few weeks, he might have some sudden scars or injuries on his back from a mysterious operation.

Not Lost Jack's son is a Jonas Brother. Was that Zac Efron moppy hairstyle for teenage boys already in vogue back in 2004?

I have a soft spot for stories of parents trying to connect with their kids. I loved the look of pride in Jack's face watching David play piano, and the look of shame when he told Not Lost Dogen he didn't know how long David has been playing. This Jack has what it takes to be a good father, in stark contrast to the other Jack.

"I'm a candidate and I can do what I want." "Have you ever tried to get Jack to do something? It's impossible."

Jacob seems to really like Hurley. Not just because Hurley does what he says, but he seems to genuinely like the guy. I loved how Hurley Sarah Palined Jacob's instructions on his arm and how he "lied to a samurai". Jacob turns up when he wants "like Obi-Wan Kenobi".

Loved the old school Jack and Hurley wandering through the jungle on a mission they don't understand. Finding Shannon's inhaler. The caves and the Adam and Eve skeletons. Jack telling Hurley how he found the caves and why he smashed the coffin.

Good meta-comment on the Lighthouse ("Why haven't we ever seen this before?") Of course, Jack had to lose it and go smashy-smashy on the wheel. Jacob's cool with that. He'd dead anyway, all his stuff being broken will all be his replacement's problem eventually.

Poor black Other. Evil Claire axed him a question and he didn't have the right answer. Kate is so fucked when she finally finds Claire and tells her where Aaron is.

The mock Aaron in Evil Claire's crib looked like the bones of the jackal that sired the Anti-Christ at the end of The Omen.

So it's now safe to say it was the Smoke Monster who was in Jacob's cabin, probably animating Christian back when we saw him and Claire in there a couple of seasons ago. If it's the Smoke Monster who animated Christian's corpse, then it was the Smoke Monster who lead Jack to the caves, right?

"You have what it takes."

Just got done re-watching the Lighthouse scene

#108 - Wallace - crossed out already - have to assume that the fact that Jacob used 108 was a red herring tossed out by the writers for the fans to go crazy over

1st image in mirror appeared to be an asian style temple very similar to where Jin & Sun were married

2nd image that caused Jack to say stop the first time was a church steeple very similar to the church where Sawyer's parents' funeral was held but it seems that it doesn't quite line up with #15 when jack spins the mirrors to #23 before he does his whole "jack thing"

and that chain looks awfully shiny & new in comparison to everything else in the lighthouse

Won't he get mugged or something before that, when he gets beat up. and if it's timeline shouldn't he be meeting Sayid soon? And, for that matter, Jack.

I must admit, I am at a more or less total loss. I am just watching the show hoping something makes sense. Nothing much is, right now.

Sing this special song. It's just for you.
1. Brilliant but flawed surgeon tries to reconnect with his piano prodigy son. We got an episode of Lost AND Everwood tonight! (awesome)

2. My money is on Anna Lucia being the mom. If only so I can make an IGPX joke.

3. Also, the son was listening to Driveshaft.

4. Poor Jin always ends up in the most f'ed up situations.

Yeah, but Sawyer is being all broody. I guess when they finally meet we'll see whether Sawyer is really going to the dark side or whether him and his buddy Jin will skedaddle. Sawyer should be happy to see Claire though, since it was he who was in charge of her when she disappeared.

I imagine Sawyer is going to be a "good guy" in the end but it would be interesting if Sawyer did follow not-Locke and be his candidate vs. Jacob/Jack. Jack vs. Sawyer, just like in the beginning.

Plus we get a special undercard match between Charlie's buddies, Claire vs. Hurley.

It's too bad they have communication issues. He could've got some points by telling him that he saved the Driveshaft bassist's life. (Not that Jack knew who he was, but still...)

I wonder if Charlie's incident on the plane ended up on nme.com at any point.
