Usually when we get an episode with no Locke or Ben it's a bit of a letdown. I didn't really feel that way this time. I wasn't blown away, but it was solid and it seemed to have set the stage for some things down the road.

Sayid suddenly became a whiney bitch. I'm not sure if that was to show that he wasn't really Sayid or what, but it was strange to see.

Kate tooled around in that taxi a lot longer than she had any right to. I would think an escape murderer who hijacked a taxi would be a pretty hot read on the APB.

Mac playing the mouthy guard was a lot of fun to see. What exactly did the other guard mean when he told him not to shoot Jin because 'he was one of them'?

I kind of expected Jack to totally lose his shit and just freak out. It didn't happen, maybe next week?

So if Sayid is just "claimed," does that mean the MIB/Monster can take him over at some point in the future? I'm still kind of doubting that Sayid is now a MIB candidate since...

a) he's still in his original body, unlike how MIB is posing as Locke while Locke's corpse is right there on the beach

b) he was hurt by the sonics and hot poker, but not affected by the powder. I guess the sonics and poker would hurt anyone, human or non.

If you go back to Locke's speech about Backgammon from the pilot, maybe it means that MiB has claimed Sayid as one of his 'pieces'? It will be interesting to see what they meant.

ALDO RETURNS!!! And it was pretty much like watching Mac on the island. AWESOME!!!! Sucks that he got shot by...

CLAIRE IS ROUSSEAU 2.0!!!!!!!!! Right down to the "I lost my baby" and "I found a Jin" details. AWESOME!!!

I liked how Claire just screamed out Aaron's name. Didn't she just arbitraily come up with the name back in season 1, too?

Ethan Goodspeed (!!!) didn't want to stick Claire with needles... HAR!

Didn't Kate use the Joan Hart name before? Does she have a fake ID or is she just getting repetitive?

I liked Sayid echoing Han Solo's "they didn't ask me any questions..."

I'm getting concerned how everyone is fleeing the temple and splitting up. Maybe I've had Live Together Die Alone stuck in my head for six years now, but this can't be good...

You believe me, don't you?

Please tell me they've mentioned Jack's sister before.

Edit: oh, right. HALF-sister.

Really dug all the Rousseau-riffic juxtapositions in the episode, with Sayid's torture scene mirroring his torture scene with her, and the "new" Claire (setting traps, finding Jin, having her baby raised by someone else).

Should be interesting to see if Sayid being "taken" is the same thing as the "change" Richard said would happen in Ben when he took him to the Temple to be healed as a child, and if that's what made him Smoke Locke's pawn of choice for killing Jacob. Plus Rousseau said her team "changed" after going into the ruins surrounding the Temple, so there's def a connection there. And if Claire is taken as well, I'd say that pretty much clears up which Christian was in the cabin with her.

Can't say I find Kate side stories all that interesting, but seeing Claire "knowing" her baby needed to be named Aaron, Kate softening because of Aaron, and Ethan still showing up to give Claire and her baby an ultrasound really makes me think that "whatever happened, happened" is still going to be in play, and that the "reconciliation" we're going to see between the two realities is going to be certain things are still happening in the alternate universe, thus allowing the characters to still have all their growth and relationships from the past seasons. Meanwhile the other reality will reach it's own conclusion. That way, they'll give us both closure AND happy endings for characters that appear to have had them yanked away.

Mac is the worst guard ever. I was kind of hoping that after he got shot, the camera would pan over to see Danny DeVito eating sausages out of his pocket.

Sayid and Han Solo have something in common: being tortured and then saying "They didn't even ask me any questions!" That Other jackass Aldo who Kate beat up also called her "Princess" - Star Wars reference number 2.

Boy, for a professional torturer, Sayid really turned into a wussy when the electrical shock clamps were on his nipples for a change. "They tortured me! And they were such assholes about it. No chit chat, no threats, nothing!" I think his professional pride was offended as much as he was in incredible pain.

I liked Hurley asking Sayid if he's a zombie. Zombies don't scream and cry when being tortured, so highly unlikely.

An abundance of good one liners and character stuff this week. Sawyer's sarcastic "He's an Iraqi torturer who shoots kids, so of course he deserves a second chance." Aw.

Hurley: "Private talks freak me out because they usually leave me having to do something that I don't understand."

Miles: "As you can see, Hugo has assumed the leadership role, so that's great." "We'll be in the food court if you need us."

I love the Not Lost scenes. I especially like how Kate and Claire got so chummy after she hijacked her cab, the Puppet Master from Heroes driving the cab ran off, and Kate left Claire stranded on the side of the road, then felt bad when she found out Claire was pregnant.

Some may quibble about Claire trusting Kate after that but think about it, the crazy lady in handcuffs waving the gun is still the only person Claire knows in LA. Aaron's two moms are BFFs. Plus, Dr. Ethan (Goodspeed?) isn't such a dick in Not Lost.

On the Island, Poor Kate finally found out Sawyer had moved on. He and Juliet were for realz, yo. They were like Romeo and Juliet and except they ended in tragedy!

I also liked that Jin and Kate both blew out of the temple. They're the two 815 Originals who are on the Island looking for specific people, so yeah, hanging out in the temple ain't gonna do for them. They've got business to take care of.

The reveal at the end totally threw me for a loop. I was convinced since season four that Claire died when the rocket blew up her house in New Otherton and what was walking around and was sighted since then was an Island Construct (which I guess was since revealed to be Black Smokey Man). But now we find out Claire is the new Rousseau.

But there's a darkness in her, says Dogen, that claimed her as Sayid will soon be claimed. Does this mean Sayid will also eventually set bear traps and tripwired nets full of rocks around the Island?

Neo could have told Jack not to take the green pill. Red pill, blue pill, sure, either's good. But not green. Never green. Whoa.

I don't think those weren't electrical shock clamps, it looked more like they were sticking him with needles. Kind of like how they test for nerve damage, though as Big Bad mentioned, I assume that this was some sort of sonic deal to test for Smokey influence.

Ethan's last name is Goodspeed, so one assumes in the alternate reality, Horace must have gotten to raise his own kid. Which would mean the island sank for a different reason than Juliet detonating the bomb.

I was disappointed that Hurley didn't recognize Sayid's Han Solo moment, since he made such a big deal about writing ESB last season.

Miles is not allowed to die. Never ever. He's the new voice of the audience (Pointing out how Hurley's been essentially running things lately).

I still think it's a little disingenuous to have an episode full of characters acting all mysterious and evasive followed by a promo saying that the time for questions is over.

EDIT: Until further notice (and I know he said his name in this episode), I'm calling the two main new Others John and Yoko because it amuses me to do so.

Kate praising is rarely as popular as Kate bashing, but I've always been a Kate fan so...

How awesome was Kate this episode? Seriously. She was more bad ass than she's been in entire seasons. "What Kate Does" was a reminder of the promise of season one Kate (before she got put in the pretty dress and the bear cage with Sawyer in season 3). Kate is supposed to be resourceful and dangerous.

Kate's biggest flaw is that when her two tall men are around, she fades to their side and makes the pretty eyes at them. Why, even last night, Kate only got proactive because she wanted to get with Sawyer. If Kate laid the smackdown on the Others on a more regular basis like she did when she punked out Aldo and made the black guy eat a net full of rocks in the face, she'd have the Island cred Sayid has.

Still hating the fact that we are getting other Others crammed down our throats in the same manner they crammed Alcatraz & the Polar Bear cages a few seasons back.

For a second I thought we were going to see Kate deliver Aaron again and we would start to see constants that would merge the two timelines somehow but instead we get Ethan which made me wonder how long ago did the island really sink ?

But then I remembered the Dharma Shark swimming by the 4 toed statue.

and wasn't the ring that Sawyer was going to give to Juliet the same ring that Desmond was going to give to penny in "The Constant" but wound up tossing into the Thames instead ?

Even nice Ethan is creepy as hell to me. After Season 1 I don't think I'll ever be able to look at that actor the same.

I don't understand why the Others kept using terms like "infected" and "claimed." I would have thought "possessed" would be more accurate if Sayid is in fact inhabited by someone/something. Or maybe I'm just completely misunderstanding what's happening to his body.

Is this the first time we've seen Sawyer cry? Even if it wasn't, that sure was a strange visual. And I don't like it! Bring back snarky and/or angry Sawyer ASAP.

I'm with you there, but the ladies loved it. I know a lot of women who watch Lost and love Sawyer and WHOA, did they go nuts for Sawyer crying over Juliet because he wanted to marry her.

Apparently, Sawyer is the dreamiest guy in fiction who isn't a vampire or a werewolf.

Not necessarily. Horace's wife presumably got on the submarine with baby Ethan (not to mention baby Miles and young Charlotte) and never returned (with no island to return to).

Another neat bit: Claire's ultrasound picture showed the date as 10/22/04, a month after the date of the original timeline's crash.

I wanted to take a look at the thread here for the episode where Aldo / Mac first appeared, but couldn't find it on the "Threads tagged Lost" page. Turns out it was mis-tagged, but understandably so...

http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=31981

I was actually pretty proud of that thread title. This was back when we were allowed to be creative with titling TV show threads. :-)

I blame some script. I've changed it back.

(You can still be creative; I'm just saying you should probably ALSO include that other stuff if you'd like OTHER people to find it later!)

Yeah, I considered that. Going off as a baby in the evacuation and coming back just to be a full blown ready to kill Other by 11 seemed unnecessarily complicated an origin (plus bringing a baby back to an island where the disaster they were evacuated from is now being held in check by a mere button push every 2 hours would be some pretty bad parenting), so I don't think it's the case, but it's certainly possible.

Anybody watched the repeat of "LA X Pt. 2" prior to this episode? I kind of like the idea of getting a refresher course (via the "Pop Up Video"-style enchancements) on the previous week's adventures, just so I can pick up on anything important that I might've missed/overlooked ...

For example, it was mentioned that these "flash sideways" are presenting "what would have happened if Oceanic 815 never crashed" ... Perhaps it's just a matter of semantics, but does that statement mean that we - as the viewers - are not supposed to assume that these events are actually happening? Like, to put it into geek terms, the events of this alternate timeline are not really considered to be canon?

Ugh, it's a bitch trying to discuss time travel ... I'm gonna go read this article (discovermagazine.com) and see if that'll clear things up.

Oh, one more thing from that episode that I initially had forgotten ...

Not-Locke: John was the only one who wanted to stay on the island ...
Ben: What about the black chick and her husband?
