Penultimate Lost. So, who else is feeling anxious about how this is all going to end?

I don't have a lot of jokes. Sawyer told the best one: "I thought that guy had a God complex before."

Last week's episode was important, I guess, for showing the ritual of how the Island Protector mantle gets passed from one sucker to another. Jacob did the same ritual his fake mother Allison Janney did for him, so I guess it's official that Jack is King of the Island. There goes my theory that it would be Sawyer in a swerve. Unless it's still Sawyer in a swerve on Sunday.

The dialogue about the Light at the Heart of the Island was a little frustrating.

"Beyond the bamboo field, over the ridge, is the Heart of the Island."
"There's nothing out there."
"No no, there is now. I mean, it was always there."
Uh huh.

I'm powerful confused about the time that has elapsed in the episodes before last week. Because apparently, from the time Ben, Richard, and Miles broke off from the Candidates to destroy the Ajira plane, they spent forever getting to the Barracks while the Candidates reunited with Smoke Locke, Sawyer lead the commandeering of Desmond's boat, Jack jumped off Desmond's boat, the Candidates went to Hydra, got captured, Locke came to Hydra with Jack, they got on the sub, Jin and Sun and Sayid died, and the rest of the Candidates survived and went off to run into Jacob while Widmore and Zoe went to the Barracks. So while ALL THAT was going on, Ben, Richard and Miles were just walking to the Barracks?

Widmore did plant the C4 on the plane, three steps ahead of Ben's crew, who never even made it to Hydra.

I did like all the killin' in the closet. So long, Zoe. Ben and Widmore still hate each other's guts. "He doesn't get to save his daughter." Is Richard dead? I hope not. Where did Miles go?

I don't know how satisfied Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley must have felt from the answers they got while having their fireside chat with Jacob. Jacob was pretty vague. He never mentioned he and the Smoke Monster are brothers. I did like his answer to Kate about her name in the cave. "It's just chalk on a wall, Kate. The job's yours if you want it." She did not. Nor did Hurley. But Jack did. Which is why I still don't think he gets to keep the job. The Island Protector probably shouldn't want it.

Plus Desmond's on the loose. And now Widmore's dead without ever explaining why Desmond's resistance to electromagnetism is so important.

The Sideways universe was pretty awesome for all the Dr. Linus stuff, plus seeing Danielle Rousseau as a normal, un-crazy woman. I could go for some coq au vin right about now. They left Ben and Danielle is a weird, kind of flirtatious state.

Meanwhile, Sideways Jack finally gets to fix Sideways Locke so he can "let go." Locke must need glasses if he thinks Jack's son looks like him.

Sideways Desmond seriously creeps me out. I find his perpetual state of calm (unless he's beating the shit out of Dr. Linus) very unsettling. Something big's going down at the concert Miles is going to, which Desmond, Kate, Sayid, and Hurley will now be in attendance for. Where are the Kwons?

Waited this whole season for Ana Lucia to appear in the Sideways universe and it was like, oh, hey, there she is. Envelope full of money. Well, see ya.

Sunday night, it's The End.

I'm amazed that in the last season Jack has so effectively become the Man of Faith that I didn't even want to punch Jack for volunteering.

The dialogue about the Light at the Heart of the Island was a little frustrating.

"Beyond the bamboo field, over the ridge, is the Heart of the Island."
    "There's nothing out there."
"No no, there is now. I mean, it was always there."
I figure that the Heart would have been near something that meant something to the successful candidate. Like, if Hurley had been the one, it would have been near where he kissed Libby.

Is Richard dead? I hope not.
As soon as he volunteered, I told my friends that Richard was going to die instantly.

Waited this whole season for Ana Lucia to appear in the Sideways universe and it was like, oh, hey, there she is.
Hurley: You didn't say Ana Lucia would be here.
Ana Lucia: What?
Hurley: Nothing.
Me: heh.

Richard getting taken out by the Smoke Monster reminded me of Billy facing the Predator alone in the jungle in the original Predator movie.

Presumably, the museum's concert is the same one at which Jack's son is playing, so that also gives you Jack, maybe Claire and Jack's ex-wife (Juliet?).

Loved finally seeing Ben again. Romance for Ben and Rousseau in the sideways verse?

They could be the complete family for Alex to be part of.

It comes down to Ben and Jack, doesn't it? Jack is Jacob's boy now. Ben was promised the Island by Smoke Locke.

I think Ben is swerving MIB.

But it's great to see Ben and Locke together again.

I agree - could anyone think Ben would forget how he was played by MIB? He even said so in this episode! He's staying alive just a little longer at least and advancing his agenda to help stop Smokey.

Fun episode tonight, can't wait for Sunday.

Doesn't Locke's revelation that he's going to use Desmond to destroy the island negate his promise to Ben that he gets the island when he leaves?

I LOVED Ben's dinner with the Rousseau's. Weird that this is the first time we see Danielle in any way normalized.

I LOVED Ben waking up. Dr. Linus had a naivette to him that manipulative Ben does not, and Emerson immediately injected that in to his performance. I want to say that Ben is going to be MiB's agent in the sideways world to stop whatever Desmond is planning, but I can't imagine Desmond would have awoken him if that was the case. I'm guessing that Ben's encounter with Alex and Danielle will be the closest he gets to a happy ending and that is why he's off in that world.

Even if he doesn't want it, I was hoping Hurley would be the next Jacob.

Desmond waking Hurley first makes TOTAL sense. Wake up the one guy with resources to allow you to accomplish all your goals. Good to see Ana Lucia again, even if she's corrupt and doesn't know what's going on.

I can't wait for Sunday, and yet, I don't want it to come at all.

You believe me, don't you?

Wait, so Kate was 'eliminated' as a candidate since she was a "mother" to Aaron? What about Sawyer and Kwon, who were actual parents? They were apparently still eligible. But I guess that doesn't matter since Jacob just offered Kate the job anyhow. That explanation didn't make a whole lot of sense. It didn't answer whatsoever What They Died For....I'm surprised one of the final four didn't say, "So yeah, why didn't you just tell us all of this when our plane crashed in the first place?"

So was the plane NOT brought to the island because Desmond forgot to put the numbers in that one time after all? Or was that just too long ago and too many seasons ago for me to have expected to remember it now?

I feel like this won't be wrapped up as tightly as I was expecting many episodes ago.

I think it takes a lot more than that to kill the Immortal Richard Alpert.

Why is no one mourning Lapidus?

And why did they kill Zoe on Tina Fey's birthday??

I also predict ZOE will be revealed as Jack's Sideways Wife, in a Shocking Swerve!

I think jacob, because of what happened to him, would not want to deprive a child of their mother.

It might also explain why he seemingly picked lots of people with daddy issues, not mommy issues.

The top candidate (ha!) for Jack's Sideways Wife has to be Juliet. I can think of no other logical option. It can't be his real-world wife Sarah since otherwise there wouldn't have been the build-up to her identity. The only possible swerve I could imagine would be if Jack's ex was Claudia, thus making David Shepherd the MIB reborn in the alt-verse.

I guess Zoe's presence was only required since Widmore wanted someone who hadn't spoken to the Monster yet and thus could kill him. So much for that plan. Also, Smokey has spoken to all of Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Desmond and Hurley, so I'm not sure who's left to kill him.

Ohhh, good call. Wow, this actually explains a lot. Jacob is all about the mother-child dynamic, but not the father-child dynamic. (Also interesting to note that Smokey was open to manipulating the father-child dynamic, as when he took the guises of Christian and Alex.)

Jacob's explanation to Kate that she was crossed off because she became a mother is crap. Kate wasn't one of the original numbers and she didn't become a 'mother' until she left the island. It really means nothing in the scheme of things.

The cut on Jack's neck was a hell of a lot more pronounced than the nick in Jack's neck from the opening episode this season when he looked in the airplane bathroom mirror. Could this be a sign of the slideways world & the real world somehow combining ? Desmond is rounding everyone up to be in the same place at the same time for some reason.

Now I'm going to have to go back and look at last week but I could have sworn that the light at the heart of the island left the cave with Smokey. So Jacob has been protecting the light all these years by not letting Smokey off the island ? Could Desmond's task be to somehow take Smokey/Locke back into the cave at the Heart of the Island thus having the electromagnetic impulse restore the light and lock Smokey back down in the hole ?

Jacob's ashes made me wonder about the ash ring around Jacob's house. Who's ashes were they ? Did they have any signifigance or were they just regular ash ? Am I clutching at straws ?

Ben is definitely going to swerve MIB. He can't help himself. He's the scorpion and he stings because that is what he does.

I wonder if Slideways Hurley & Sayid are headed to the hospital to somehow get Slideways Jin & Sun to go with them ? I can't see any other way they are going to be in the same place at the same time unless it all goes down at Jack's hospital.

Is it Sunday yet ?

Uh, that whole "don't let him speak to you" thing has nothing to do w/ being able/unable to kill MIB.

Perhaps his mothers ashes? Not his real mom, the one who made it so they couldn't hurt each other?

Forgive me if it has already been discussed in previous threads, but why is the finale on Sunday and not it's regular Tuesday night slot? Seems odd.

Was there already a scene where Sideways Hurley became aware of the two realities, and I forgot about it, or was that just a teaser for the finale?
