"Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo's gonna be able to track him."
"Why don't you just turn into smoke and float over the water?" "If I could do that, do you think I'd still be on this Island?" "No, 'cause that would be ridiculous."
"She hits her head and loses the ability to speak English? We're supposed to buy that?" "Says the guy who talks to dead people."
Funny dialogue aside, the main story on Lost is shifting to the end game. Battle lines are being drawn, plans are being formed, the confrontation is imminent.
I'm still not used to Lost being so blatant in its explanations as it's been this season. Smoke Locke clearly stated he needs all six candidates to be with him when he leaves the Island, he clearly stated Kate and Claire are not candidates, and he clearly stated why he needs Kate. He was a bit more ambiguous what's to be done with her after she's outlived her usefulness, but I think it was still clear what he implied.
When they opened the episode with the green filtered night vision, it's a shame Kate and Sawyer weren't having sex, as an ode to the Paris Hilton sex tape.
I think Sun and Jin are the first of the Oceanic 815ers to not be better off in the Not Lost flash-sideways reality. "Some people just aren't meant to be together," said Keamy. Foreshadowing, but for which reality? By the way, I like crime boss Keamy a lot more than jungle mercenary Keamy. He's a lot funnier. Mikhail is pretty much the same in both realities, and ends up just as dead.
I really liked both of Jack's conversations with Sun. The first one in the garden when Sun shat all over the idea of their destiny and the second when Jack convinced her to come with them so they can find Jin. Jack's notoriously shitty bedside manner has really improved since he found Island Faith.
I also get a charge when super villains have confrontations. Widmore and Smoke Locke sized each other up (hey, they're both white, bald, and old!) and the dialogue indicated that Widmore never encountered the black smoke when he was leading the Others (and presumably following Jacob), although the black smoke knew who he was. The sonic pylons are interesting too; sure they keep Smoke Locke out, but I'm sure the same thought crossed his mind that the pylons themselves can be attacked and disabled.
Finally, finally Desmond is back! I hope we see Penny again too before the series ends.
Now, what is Charles Widmore so interested in regarding the Island's electromagnetic activity?
I'd love to talk about LOST, but as a member of The Internet I am instead compelled to talk about ABC's brilliant marketing scheme of placing a countdown to "V: THEY RETURN" on my lower third FOR THE ENTIRE FUCKING 62 MINUTES.
I decided not to watch "V," and am considering giving up "LOST"* as well. I'm *that* annoyed about it.
People who make decisions like this - they don't actually watch their own channels like the rest of us do, do they. I mean, they get DVDs ahead of time and don't have to actually sit down when ABC says they're showing it and watch the screen there. The ABC logo is bad enough, but I get that - they're ubiquitous. But seriously - I didn't tune in to "LOST" because I'm super psyched that coming up is "V" ...YOU DUMB FUCKS.
Having "NXT" to watch makes it a lot easier to forgo "V" anyway. If it had been unopposed, who knows.
*I WILL still watch them, of course - probably at abc.com if they get streamed there, or I'll acquire them by some other means if they're not, but my own station KSTP is totally screwed. I've emailed them and if they decide I'm not some crank - and keep in mind I'm totally mindful that they're not going to care if CRZ is watching their channel or not - hopefully they'll pass the message up the chain. (Not that I'm expecting my email to ABC to go unread, either, but ....well, I am actually. But if enough people get mad at enough affiliates, MAYBE someone will get a hint?)
Mikhail got shot through the eye! Ha ha, sweet irony, or something.

It's possible Widmore encountered the Monster during his time on the island, but never encountered it in anything other than its primitive smoke form. Having it suddenly be able to walk, talk and look like Locke was certainly new to ol' Charlie. Also, if Widmore's team plans on checking out the electromagnetic source sites on the island, those pylons don't exactly look mobile -- how they are going to get around and still avoid the smoke?
Fun fact: this is the first LOST episode to feature every member of the credited main cast since the S4 finale. (You could argue they did this in this season's premiere if you count it as a one big two-hour episode, but it seems to be considered a definitive Part One and Part Two for syndication purposes.)
The Sun/Jin 'unbuttoning the shirt' scene = holy cow.
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love. They had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man
I can't believe that last night was the first time Jin saw Ji Yeon. It was nice of Widmore to bring the camera, though. Did anyone even bother to tell him he had a daughter before this?
FINALLY Sun had something to do since nailing Ben with the paddle. Her aphasia is funny.
I like when Jack makes promises about getting people off the island on the beach.
Was Keamy ALWAYS supposed to be the watch recipient? Does that mean that Paik and Widmore share a mercenary rolodex?
Is Jin still infertile in the sideways universe? If so, does that mean Sun has a real relationship with someone else (the baby-daddy) and Jin is now the affair? Will bald asian dude shame Jin into jumping out a window?
I liked the quick shot of Sideways Jin and Sun together framed by the circular cart.
I did not care for a timer telling me exactly how much longer the episode was to run.
Agreed on the button scene.
Yay Desmond!!!
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...

I am so glad not to be the only one bothered by this crap. When I am really into a show, the end sneaks up on me and I like that...so, thanks ABC for taking that away to annoyingly advertise a show I never had any interest in to begin with.

Ha, and I was sitting there yelling at Jin, "Shoot that bastard 5 more times!! HE'S NOT DEAD!!!"
I was actually a little surprised that Richard couldn't speak Korean. It's not like he hasn't had time in the last 140 years to learn a language or two. Sun's explosion on him was hilarious.
Interesting that Sayid could realize that he felt no emotions. Does lack of emotion mean that he doesn't know the difference between right & wrong ? He had to have recognized Desmond.
We knew from seasons past that Desmond was "special". I guess we are about to find out why. The bagpipes in the preview got me more than a little excited.
If I were looking at pictures of my daughter for the first time, my eyes would look like a garden hose had been left on.
Kate is expendable and Claire is her worst nightmare. I can see Fake Locke leaving them both behind. And Kate's name was on the wall ? Really ? She's not one of the original #'s. Is she Fake Locke's way to get both Sawyer & Jack on the plane with him ?
I am going to have to go back and watch again but I thought Ajira 316 landed pretty hard. Are they just planning on taxiing to the end of the runway & taking off ?
In slideways world I would bet that Sun's father knew that Sun was pregnant and that was why the hit $ was added just before Jin left. His reach is too far for him not to know.

Not only that, but we missed the last minute of the show because our stupid local affiliate had to air a weather alert (thebostonchannel.com) ... So could someone fill me in on what the preview for next week's episode revealed?
"All RAW is these days is a cheap version of Saturday Night Live, so if you wanna tune in to watch the amazing star power of Al Sharpton and Nancy O'Dell, go ahead! Who's gonna host next week, Big Bird? Wow, that's must-see TV!" - John Morrison (10/16/09 Smackdown!)
Originally posted by BigDaddyLoco Did Widmore ever state that he had a beef with Jacob, or was it always with just Ben? I always assumed he was going to align with the smoke.
It would appear that the Man in Black (youtube.com) has been pulling a "long con" of his own ... He probably knew that having Widmore as leader of the Others would make his escape from the island more difficult, and he's been manipulating Ben from the start to usurp that role; that way, he had the perfect pawn in place to do his dirty work for him and kill Jacob

In the original uni, Sun's keeps her pregnancy a secret from Jin, because she doesn't know if Jae Lee is the father. Jae Lee is the one who taught English to Sun.
In the sideways uni, Sun is ready to tell Jin about the pregnancy, implying that Jin is the father. Sun does not have a relationship with Jae Lee, and does NOT learn English.
Sun's aphasia isn't aphasia - it's the sideways uni leaking into the original uni, brought on by the head trauma she suffered when she ran into the tree. Head trauma is going to be a key storytelling element.
I agree with the V counter eliminating the suspense leading to the end of the episode. Knowing when it was going to end took a lot away from my enjoyment.
Desmond was a nice surprise, I almost feel foolish for not seeing that coming, knowing that he HAD to find a way back on the island somehow.
I don't remember if we ever found out how Mikhail's eye got gauged in the on-island timeline... Did they ever show that? And if not, is it possible that we're supposed to draw a parallel there somehow? Do physical things that happen in the ATL affect everyone's well-being retroactively on the island? This could explain Mikhail's eye, Sun's surprise pregnancy (since it already existed in the ATL), Rose's health... The main things that wouldn't make sense would be Ben's tumor and Locke's healing on the island. I dunno, just throwing that out there.
Another thought that popped into my head is that in the ATL, Jin and Sun don't get married. So Jacob never gets to touch them, since he did so right after the wedding. This leads me to believe that the ATL is, in fact, a direct result of Jacob being killed and we're seeing what all of the Losties' lives are like without him being alive to touch them. Since they're not marked as candidates in the ATL, the island's forces aren't there to manipulate their life events into ending up the way that we know them. Somehow, they all still end up on that same plane, but without Jacob's existence, the plane never crashes because it never has a reason to. Where this leads in the end beats me, but maybe they'll have to decide between one of them becoming Jacob to set everything into motion the way we saw in the first couple of seasons (maybe Desmond, because he was never on the plane and has the ability to jump back in forth in time a la Jacob). Or, they could decide to not take over for Jacob, let the Man in Black free, and live their lives the way they are in the ATL.
This is all just throwing ideas out there, but I'm amazed that with how forthright they've been with the answers this season, I'm still having plenty of stuff to try and figure out.
Originally posted by Stansbury AlumIt was interesting to learn that Kate and Claire are not candidates. So who are the six candidates? Jin, Sun, Sawyer, Hurley, Jack and who?
The fact that they keep up bringing up "does Kwon mean Jin or Sun" makes me believe only one of them is going to be a candidate but I have a hard time coming up with two more people. Have we seen Desmond's name crossed out? Ilana has been sent to protect the candidates but does that necessarily mean she isn't one herself? Are all the candidates even on the island or could one be Walt?
The 6 remaining candidates are Jack, Hurley, Sawyer, Jin or Sun (it is unclear which one), Sayid, and Locke. Obviously, we can cross off Locke, and most likely also Sayid.

And couldn't it be their daughter?
