We don't need no Oceanic Six! Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, Locke, Richard, Juliet, Desmond, Penny, and Sawyer can carry the show just fine on their own.

"Your name's Widmore? Charles Widmore?" I knew it! I KNEW IT! (I mean, I sort of knew it. I'd have been just as prepared to pump my fist in the air if Locke had asked him if his name was "Lewis", but Widmore is better. If Charlotte turns out to be Penny's half-sister, Claire and Jack will want their subplot back.)

Line of the night was when Locke tried to convince Richard he's their leader: "I don't want to contradict myself."

I learned Latin in high school but now I wish I remembered any of it. I'd love to speak Other.

I loved that Desmond and Penny named their son Charlie. (Also, Charlie Hume was born in the Philippines because the sign on the door of one of the huts said "Mabuhay!" which is tagalog.)

I forget what the name of the character Clancy Brown played, but I bet his island ghost is offended Desmond didn't name his son after his old hatch-mate.

Since I didn't post that I thought that guy was Widmore last time, I want to go on record as saying that the past girl Other is Daniel's mom, aka Ms Hawking. Just so I can have the pleasure of typing I KNEW IT at least once this season.

Glad to see an explanation as to why Richard went and visited child Locke last season. Bet that bit about starting training young will eventually tie in to why they wanted Walt so bad.

So is it safe to say "Jughead" was what was buried under Desmond's hatch?

I always enjoy island heavy episodes, but the killing of random survivors from the plane is becoming absurd at this point.

It's pretty cool to see what was going on on the island during different time periods, and the Richard character might be one of the most intriguing on the show.

So, could Locke have changed everything by shooting Widmore in woods?

lots of concrete.

While I assume "the girl with the gun" is likely Faraday's mother, there are so many possibilities.

Faraday
Charlotte
Penny
Locke

I don't think he would have been able to, what with the whole "what's meant to happen is going to happen" deal. Widmore is too important for the island or fate or whatever to allow him to die early like the "red shirt" past Others that got killed. That's how I rationalize it anyways.

I think we may finally be out of random survivors, which was probably the idea.

Kelvin Inman. I was just hoping that the kid's name wasn't Jack, and was very glad to hear "Charlie".

A lot of good questions now to ponder. Is Ellie, the girl with the gun, Daniel's mother? Daniel loves Charlotte...no real chemistry there, so is he maybe...Charlotte's father? Her mother being the girl in the coma? Is the woman in the coma the female that the custodian-type guy mentioned to Desmond ("after what he did to that poor girl")? The bomb buried under The Swan? Or The Orchid?

They can't be totally out of random survivors, since I find it hard to believe that Rose and Bernard would've been killed off-screen without a mention.

I love how, in naming their son after Charlie, Des and Penny also named him after Widmore.

Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend.
Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards?
Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death!

So much for the theory that Daniel and Charlotte are brother and sister. Or at least, they don't know it yet. ::shudder::

I felt like the past Other with the gun looked just like the girl in the coma, and Daniel saying that she looked familiar all but sealed the deal for me.

I think it's because Faraday's theory -- that you can't change the past -- isn't correct, or at least doesn't apply when Desmond's concerned. So Desmond didn't actually have that memory until Faraday changed the past. Or something!

Okay, here's what would be best: The girl with the gun gets together with Daniel Faraday and they have a kid, who turns out to be Charlotte. After Charlotte is born, the girl with the gun leaves the island, gets pregnant again with someone else, and gives birth to...Daniel Faraday. It's perfect!

Locke: How did you know Richard would be here?
Juliette: Richard's always been here.
Locke: How old is he?
Juliette: Old.

I love that. :-)

I am sooo bad at "who looks like who", & the time shifting removes anything like age hints. But, I think, the chick in the picture (that Desmond finds in Daniel's lab) is the same chick in the bed (Theresa), & is also the same chick (Ellie) escorting him out to the bomb? Which would mean that Daniel's girlfriend got tangled up in his experiments somehow, & is stuck skipping in time, including a stint with the 50's Others? Or something like that. Or not. And "Dad died 5 years ago" has to be relevant as well. This season is going to give me a headache!

Ellie could be short for Eloise, so she could be the person who inspires a younger Faraday to name his rat after her.

Locke meeting Richard was awesome, although I'm surprised it took him so long to pull the compass out. Now we know why Richard tracks him throughout his life.

We know that Locke would not be able to kill Widmore because we see Widmore alive in the future. Its a shame because if only Locke could put a knife in Widmore's back, then he might save everyone a ton of pain (at the very least Alex and Ben...)

It'll be interesting to find out what happened to the bomb. It would make sense to put it behind the wall in the Swan, but wouldn't the implosion have triggered it?

I'm a bit disappointed that Widmore didn't tell Desmond directly "Ben wants to kill Penny." Of course, Ben is in Los Angeles, and that's where Faraday's mother is... I'm hoping that Ben won't have time within the next 70 hours to do anything, or, at the very least, it should take more than 3 days for Desmond to sail there, right? (Of course, who knows when Des' visit to Widmore is in relation to Ben's attempts to re-unite the Oceanic 6). I can only hope that little Charlie is unaffected by these events.

What are the odds Charlie Hume, Ji Yeon, and Aaron all wind up on the island in 30 years when they are all old enough to have Daddy issues of their own?

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said...

Eloise is Daniel's mother's name (people mentioned that it was brought up in the Pop-Up Video episode of the show that was on before this episode).

That's what I posited last week (The W):

Jack/Desmond happened in Desmond's past before getting to the island, whereas Desmond/Daniel didn't happen in Desmond's past until after he got off the island, which is why it didn't trigger in Desmond until his "dream" of the encounter (the dream & the encounter were happening at the same time).

Also, (per Daniel) Desmond is special, and the rules don't apply to him, so apparently it's OK to monkey with his past without causing any problems.

Eloise I think was what Ben called the old chick in the first episode or so(this season). She's in L.A. IT'S A TRAP DESMOND!

So are Widmore and Eloise the parents of Daniel maybe? Do they help Locke at Richards orders to get off the island and get stuck off that way?

The Swan is a laboratory used by the Dharma Initiative for research on electromagnetism.[1] According to the feature "Access Granted" on the third season Blu-ray, Dharma drilled into the earth and hit an area containing a large electromagnetic buildup, which their drilling released. The Swan was built over this area to act as a cork. Dharma then came up with a scheme to "dam" the leak but with the drawback that the field built up behind the dam and would eventually break it. A failsafe key could be used to permanently "seal" the leak.[14]

So it seems like Dharma drilled into the spot the Others buried Jughead.

It kind of ticks me off that they gave away the "Eloise Hawking" thing on the pop up video rerun, as I'm very certain we never were given her first name before, and it all but cinches her as Daniel's mom.

One more fun little thing to think about. If Alpert gave the compass to Locke, and Locke gave it to Alpert, where did the darn thing come from in the first place?

It's kind of the same paradox present with the "No Fate But What We Make" speech from the Terminator movies.

Was the button that Desmond pushing attatched to the bomb or is that what we saw when they were drilling at the begining of the first episode?

Yay, now it's my turn to say "that's what I said last week":

That means, as far as I can figure, that that compass only exists for that loop of time. No one ever manufactured the compass, no one ever bought it in a shop -- it just is.

Where did Locke get it from? He got it from Richard. Where did Richard get it from? He got it from Locke. Woah.
