Well, at least Daniel Faraday isn't a degenerate pervert like Phillip J. Frye and didn't travel back in time to became his own father. Big revelation that Widmore and Eloise did the nasty in the past-y to create Daniel. Although once it was revealed it was on the same level of shock value that Miles is Phillip Chang's kid.

Chang: "Is this true?"
Miles: "What? No. Don't listen to him. He's crazy. Just because we're the only two Chinese guys on the Island doesn't mean we're related."

Next parental revelation will be that Phil is the offspring of the polar bear and the smoke monster.

The other big bombshell is the definitive answer of who put that fake Oceanic 815 in the bottom of the trench. It was Widmore. It was Widmore all along. I believe him. He'd be pretty proud of that fraud and it's not like Ben ever hinted at wanting credit for it.

Eloise Hawking's face is like Rorschach's mask: constantly contorting and forming different shapes. When she lied(?) to Daniel and said she was proud of him, I'm pretty sure I saw a pretty butterfly, two faces almost kissing, and some fluffy clouds in her face.

There some profound character work going on in the big Main Cast pow-wow scene. Especially when Juliet overrode LaFleur and sent Kate and Jack to hit Hostileton will Daniel. Anyone wondering whatever happened to Sayid?

When Penny left Charlie with the nurse to go see Desmond, who didn't think Charlie was about to be kidnapped. Glad they didn't go that route. Prior to that, Eloise was talking to Penny, who's her son's half-sister.

I liked Jack and Kate's faces when Daniel explained the timeline of events that lead to the Oceanic 815 crash. I guess that's the first time what happened was ever explained to them. But if Daniel thought he could change the future, what was supposed to happen to all the characters if he did?

We'll never know, because Daniel's destiny was to be shot by his mother in the past, while her destiny was to send her son from the future to the Island, expecting him to get caught up in a series of events involving time travel which would strand him in the past and lead him to blunder into finding her so she could shoot him and probably kill him.

How many times has Richard had to ask, "Do we know each other?"

Can we also assume that Charles didn't dislike Desmond so much as he was pushing him to the island to cause the crash?

Are we certain that Eloise is NOT Penny's mum? I mean, there's never been mention, that I can recall, of her....just Charles Widmore.

There was a mention. One of the reasons Ben cited for kicking Widmore off the Island and assuming command of the Others is because Widmore kept leaving the Island and had a relationship with a civilian.

Well, we know that Widmore was thrown out of the Others' society for fathering a child with an 'outsider,' so presumably that was Penny's mother. But I'm not sure Eloise would be considered an outsider.....but then again, she appears to be off the Island for some extended period of time to raise Daniel, as we saw in his piano-playing flashback. Maybe this shooting gets her ejected in 1977, then she returns to the mainland to tearfully realize that her son will one day grow up to be a time traveler that gets shot in the back by her own gun.

I kind of figured that Sayid would run into Jack and Kate and Dan out in the woods. They have to get him back in the story somehow, unless the Others have gotten ahold of him already.

So, the spectre of changing the future was brought up in this episode, but we know that can't happen since we've seen Locke, Sun, Ben, etc. in 2007 and they wouldn't be there without the timeline continuing as originally intended....right?

FWIW, they actually confirmed this on the last recap show. I think we were supposed to realize it as definite from the conversation between Miles and Naomi around the dead body, but it really didn't come across until as for sure that time.

For a smart guy who usually had to be pressured to explain anything, Daniel's dying monologue about Eloise sending him to the island (twice - she said "back to the island" told Whitmore outside the hospital, so I think we've got a Farraday story set during his absence from the island to be told) was unnecessary and annoying. It felt like Lost didn't trust us to think it thru from Eloise's timeline and figure it out ourselves, so they had to hand hold. There's no hand holding on this show!

I fully expected the content of this episode (the callback to the premiere, the Faraday flashbacks explaining everything) to be the season finale.

Faraday can't be dead, or how else do they explain the Comiccon video? Was there any point in the episode when he could have met up with Chang that we didn't see?

I still don't know why Lafluer hasn't privately met with Horace to lay all his cards out on the table. Radzinsky is such a hothead. I would love a flashforward to the Swan to see what it is that finally sets him off.

Why do I have a feeling that whatever Faraday wants to do to the Swan station is what's going to cause them to bury it in concrete? And how does that mesh with a failsafe that can safely destroy everything? Really, the safest course of action is to leave the whole place alone.

I can't believe that Faraday still broke down and tried to warn Charlotte. Loved the line about the chocolate as a callback.

So now we have to count on Dr. Jackenstein to stop the release of the magnetic pulse ? Is that his destiny ? It is going to kill me if this jerk winds up the "hero" in the end.

Convinced now more than ever that Sawyer & Juliet will wind up as Adam & Eve in the cave. Somehow that frozen donkey wheel is going to leave them alone together on the island at a time before there was anyone else on the island. Other than Richard of course.

Eloise is one cold individual to knowingly send her son back in time to his death. His death at her own hand. There seemed to be so much more to the Daniel story and perhaps there is. Locke is still alive.

The Widmore as Daniel's daddy reveal was hardly shocking. What was more interesting to me was her slap of Widmore's face outside the hospital when he mentioned it. Was that slap for his fathering Penny off island ? We know when Charles left but when & why did Eloise leave ?

and it look like it will be Hurley & Miles to the rescue for Sawyer & Juliet. Will Hurley go all Honky Tonk Man on Radzinsky to save them ?

is it next wednesday yet ?

I have some doubts about Faraday being dead.

He is surely "special" although perhaps not in the same way as Walt or Locke.

Maybe the Island will heal him since he needs to do "something" in 1977.

Anyone else think Juliet was sending them into a trap by giving the wrong code to the fence?

I'm going to go back and check this today, but the guy in the Orchid who told Dan he had to wear a helmet looked just like one of the Others from Hydra Island in season 3. One of Pickett's guys who I believe got killed.
I doubt they'd use the same actor for two different parts, so if it is indeed him maybe Richard isn't the only Other who doesn't age.

He did something. He saved Miles life by telling his father to send him away, ensuring that Miles would be able to play his part in all this. Along with setting Jack on his likely new path to stop The Incident.

Without looking ahead at spoilers or future episode teasers, I'm thinking there's a good chance the season finale could be a Charles Widmore flashback, with answers aplenty.

I like how some of the recent realizations haven't been shocking at all. Like the appearance of Rousseau meeting Jin on the beach, or the connections between Miles and Pierre Chang or Charles Widmore and Daniel Faraday. So in some ways it feels like the puzzle pieces are being put into place. Now if they can just get to that darn statue.

I'm also doubting that Faraday's dead. The "Hostiles" and the Island recently healed another seemingly dead person, with Benjamin Linus about two episodes ago. Since the healing process supposedly messes with someone's memory, that might lead into Daniel's eventual memory problems in 2004.

Oh, and since Daniel mentioned detonating an H-Bomb; can we safely surmise that "Jughead" is still around in 1977?

Ben wasn't dead when the island healed him. Plus it was sorta put that Faraday caused his own memory problems by experimenting on himself. And he couldn't remember things day to day, a problem Ben has never had. Doesn't add up to me, I'm pretty sure he's really dead. Though I wouldn't be shocked to see him in flashback form at some point.

Read this wasn't the rumored "shocking death" for this season though, which based on some other stuff makes me pretty sure I know who it's going to be now.

The most confusing thing to me is Daniel/Charlotte. Do they first meet when they are both sent to the island for Widmore? Or did they meet earlier than that and I missed it? If they just met when they both went to the island then that seems a pretty short amount of time to be that obsessed with her.

It was probably like his intense feelings of sadness when seeing the undersea shots of the plane. There was am underlying sense that had to do with his (future) time on the island, that he tapped into with his experiments.

I have to wonder where Theresa is though, or is she just a hopeless case now?

I will be really excited if they wrap up all time travel by the end of this season. It's made for some interesting stuff, been a good vehicle for some answers, and they haven't screwed it up like most time-travel plots. But it's getting really close. Wrap this whole thing up, head everyone back up to 2009, and spend season 6 fighting for control of the island and figuring out what it's about.

Regardless, I'm calling last shot of the entire series is the face of the statue. And that it's probably Jack. I do think the last season will be a throwback and it'll be all about him again.

This is a very good question. And I like Mike Zeidler's answer. God only knows how much mind-tripping Daniel did between the rat maze and the Freighter.

-Speaking of Charlotte - why did she die? We have now seen for ourselves Daniel scaring poor Charlotte when she was a young girl on a swing. Daniel's weird warning must have left an impression. Why isn't Daniel Charlotte's Constant?

-On another topic, what exactly is the story with Daniel's journal? When Eloise gave it to him, was it completely blank or full of notes?

a)If the notes were already there (i.e., young Eloise takes it from Daniel's dead person in 1977 and holds on to it until she gives it to him after his graduation), then we have one of those circular loops like we have with Locke and Alpert's compass. Who created the journal? Who wrote the notes?

b)On the other hand, if it is blank, then how did Daniel make some of the notes that were in there (specifically, the sketch of the Orchid logo)? Daniel (presumably) had no interaction with Dharma between graduation and the Freighter.

It should be blank, right? Daniel fills the journal with his research notes and also things he encountered while mind-tripping (which could include Dharma stuff). Also...In 1996, Daniel can't get his time travel machine to work. 2004 Daniel looks up the correct settings in the journal and sends them back to 1996 Daniel via Desmond. The machine works, then 1996 Daniel writes the settings in the journal. This I can reconcile in my head.

I'm not even sure if people are raising this question. I probably gave myself an unnecessary headache.

Oh I love the time travelling stuff. And while I don't need it to end, I am sure it will. If you look at the show every season they have "reinvented" themselves. A different format, a different perspective. So I am sure things will go in another direction once again.

And I dunno. I don't believe that Jack will be the IT factor/person in the end. Probably Hurley. ;)

We might still get the answers to this. I read some spoilers just before this weeks episode. They got every detail of what happened right, but included a bunch more scenes of Daniel going through time and focused on his journal specifically. So either those scenes were cut, or meant for another episode.
