Well, that was a good one.

Now, a lot of people had Michael pegged as having "turned" - I'm sure he's been promised Walt in exchange for delivering the others... something. Or someone. (Not Henry, because unless he runs like hell, it's going to look like he tried to kill three of them and his time has most assuredly run out.)

And it crossed my mind that he was going to shoot Ana-Lucia about twenty seconds before he did (and may I be the first to say that we are all so much richer for having lost her), but Libby? The most shocking moment on the show since Arzt blew up.

Oh, and it's a minor note after that awesome last three minutes, but huzzah for Jack's dad, the king of flashback characters. I hope, as the series progresses, it turns out that he had a drink with everyone on the plane sometime in the week before the crash.

EDIT: Oh, and a sincere thank you to NBC for not advertising the show with "someone's gonna die this week" and spoiling it for everyone, ala the Shannon episode.

Actually you should thank ABC.

Hopefully next week it's *Ecko Time*, the island needs him, and they did only say in the preview for next week that she's dead ... not they're dead although that might be a stretch.

Three things:

Don't wrap up your flashbacks.

Don't drink and drive when working for Disney

... and don't let guys on the island romance you

Edit: oh yeah, what was with the mock commercial for Hanso? Was this the first time they slipped that in there?

Two For the Road... quite punny of them.

Was that Lindelof or Cuse narrating the Hanso ad? I can never keep them straight in the podcasts. (Cuse, right?)

So Jack's got a sister... It can't be Kate or Ana Lucia. There's no point in making it Libby. Economy of characters (and facial resemblence to the mother) suggests its probably Claire. Or did we see Claire's mom way back in season one and I just don't remember.

I kept thinking that Ana Lucia wouldn't be stupid enough to give Michael a loaded gun. I figured she shot Henry, and then when Michael woke up she would tell him the bullshit story about not being able to kill him, only to give him a gun loaded with blanks as a test. But no... she was stupid. Looks like she'll never get to keep her promise to take care of those kids.

Doesn't that mean that Eko and Bernard are the only survivors from the other camp?

Did Michael shoot Ana in the same place that she shot Shannon (gut wound?)

And what was the deal with Henry's mission-to-get-Locke? That couldn't have been real, right? He was totally playing into Locke's chosen-one complex.

Hurley finding out about Libby is going to be sad.

I like an episode that leaves my jaw on the floor at the end. I did not see Libby's death coming. Or Ana Lucia for that matter, although perhaps I should have. I was being optimistic when the flashback wrapped up thinking that she was going to turn herself around and become a model island-ite like Hurley. Heh. Poor guy's gonna have an eat-attack once he finds out that Libby's gone.

Did anyone write down the phone number from the Hanzo commercial? Or Tivo the episode? I want to see what that's all about.

As a side note, I wonder if this turn of events was written in advance, or if it had anything to do with the ladies' DUI situations.

Not that it's much of a question (I hope), and I think I'm walking in safe territory, but here's (community.tvguide.com) an interview with Cuse and Lindelof that was promised to TV Guide's Ausiello in exchange for keeping the A-L shooting quiet. They talk about how much of a NON-factor the DUI was in the whole process. Believe it if you will. Nothing specific was said about Libby.

Michael and Henry's staredown and Locke saying that he has something he needs to tell Jack were the best moments of the episode.

Speaking of episode titles, next week's ep is called...

I haven't been this upset seeing cast members killed off a show since The Lone Gunman were killed off on X-Files.

When Michael woke up inside the hatch, I knew he was brainwashed as soon as he started complaining that his head hurt before immediately starting on his "others story". Why would he be complaining that his head hurt ?

Surely they're not going to kill off Mr. Ecko next week ? That looked like a pretty high fall to survive from in the trailer for next weeks episode..

One other quick thought: What are the odds that the timing of the Hanso ad has anything to do with the fact that ABC.com is going to start streaming the episodes for free, but with commercials? Perhaps I'm being cynical, but it almost seems like they are trying to bait the viewers into watching the commercials now.

Edit: and it looks like www.thehansofoundation.org has been updated rather recently.

Wikipedia says the Hanso ad is part of the Lost Experience. It's supposed to be the first (one of the first?) clue in the game.

My jaw absolutely hit the floor with each of the two killings. I'm not sure how I feel, though, because I really like Michael's character, and I can't see him remaining as one of the "good guys" much longer.

MORE THOUGHTS: I'm kinda glad they showed Michael was still alive in the preview. I *was* kinda wondering why, when he was shooting himself, he was shooting more at his left arm than at his heart.

As for Libby, I find it very odd they killed her off already. No real flashback, and it looks like things were just starting to pick up with her and Hurley. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was really looking forward to finding out what her real interest in Hurley is (considering her past). Is there a chance that she isn't actually dead? In that TVGuide blog that someone linked to earlier in this thread, the blogger said he would wait until next week to reveal Libby's fate. Hmmmm!

Ana Lucia, on the other hand, was ripe for the picking. In addition to whatever real life reasons there would be for killing off Michelle Rodriguez, if "Henry" is to be believed, the Others really wanted Ana Lucia dead. They probably told Michael he'd get Walt back in exchange for getting rid of Others Public Enemy #1.

Well damn, the preview totally gave away that Michael survived, since I thought he was a goner too. Libby's death didn't surprise me since I heard a spoiler that Cynthia Watros is going to be on another show next season, though I kind of thought they'd wrap up her character a bit more, or that she would turn out to be an Other mole and only appear for guest shots next season. She's now the only Lost regular to never get a flashback.

What did Jack's dad say to that woman in Sydney? I couldn't hear through the rain. EddieBurkett's theory about Claire as Jack's sister would be madcap crazy.

Let's not jump the gun. Libby (and AL, for that matter) isn't dead yet. 1 probably kicks it next week, and I think the other my linger until at least the final episode. Some of the theories bouncing around guess that Libby hangs around comatose, only to finger Michael as the shooter before she finally dies.

Libby, dead? No way. You can't kill Crazy Nurse Annie from "Guiding Light." That only makes her crazier.

The enraged tag team of Sawyer, Hurley, and Sayid can only mean rampant wisecracking destruction. The Heartbreak Club are gonna kill somebody.

It took me a minute to realize that Michael shot himself to make it appear that Anna went in to kill Henry, Henry overpowered her, took the gun, shot everyone, and fled, leaving Michael for dead.
And yes, he better hope Libby is dead, or she will be able to finger Michael as the shooter.
They totally should have killed Henry. Imagine what he's going to do. Payback is going to be a true bitch.
I don't think Michael is brainwashed. I think the Others captured him and told him the only way he could have Walt back is to do...something. Whatever he's currently doing.

Why can't it be Kate? If Luke Skywalker and Leia can be brother and sister then Jack and Kate can be. I guess that makes Sawyer Han Solo, and Chewie would be Hurley....isn't that one of Sawyer's nicknames for Hurley?

A friend pointed out to me today that Patsy Cline was playing on the radio during the sequence when Jack's father was screaming about his daughter. The only two times Patsy Cline has played before were during Kate segments.

Because we've met Kate's mother, and her family is already screwed up enough as it is. I know that when the writers get desperate enough, all bets on retconning character origins are off, but if we find out that Jack's dad is really Kate's father, and NOT the bum she incinerated, that would completely invalidate her backstory. We've already had the your-dad-isn't-your-dad revelation with her once. There's only so many times you can play the same card.

Although... we don't know that the woman that Jack's dad was arguing with was the mother, do we? I suppose its not outside the realm of possibility that Jack's dad could have had an affair with Kate's mom and then he somehow tracked Kate to Australia. Still, I think Claire makes more sense, if not one of the kids that the Others kidnapped.

I thought Sawyer would call Michael "Han". I wonder if that was foreshadowing that he would shoot first.

Part of me hopes that Christian is in fact alive somewhere on the island and aligned with Hanso if only so he can find out, while confronting Jack, that there's a sister...

So, did anyone else see a 1-800 phone number listed at the end of the Hanso commercial? Because I swear, I did!

If you go to the Hanso site and try to sign up for the newsletter, the site goes all wonky and sinister, and someone named Persephone asks for a password. It says to get the password from the phone number from the tv ad. The ad is viewable on the web site, but it doesn't have the phone number now!

As for Kate/Jack... the guy she burned up WASN'T her real father, right? I don't remember what the your-dad-isn't-your-dad revelation with her was. Need to read up on Wikipedia, I guess. For that matter, I can't remember how Jack's dad died, or at what point Kate was arrested in Australia. Could she have been in the house Jack's dad and Ana went to, or would she have already been in police custody?

[Edit: Read up on the Kate flashback episode. It would be weird if they did another Kate's biological dad switcharoo. On the other hand, the Patsy Cline on the radio thing makes one wonder.]

[Edit2: I kept reading Wikipedia, and the phone number was listed under last night's episode. (877-HANSORG).]
