Daniel was trying to tell what the cards were -- maybe he wasn't trying to remember, maybe he's telepathic or something. Charlotte can go straight to objects she's looking for, like the Polar bear's collar. And the pilot skipped 815 because he had a precognitive vision, which is why he feels so guilty.
Wild speculation, of course.

I think Jack said the Marshall was killed in the crash.
Maybe part of the cover up is Jack had to say he hooked up / married Kate and their child is Aaron. But they are now separated, thus the "not anymore" comment when he is asked if he loves her. | dunkndollaz

I think we got a pretty good clue as to how much time has passed from the scene with Kate's mom where she said the doctor's had been giving her 6 months to live for the past 4 years. What I would like to know is how much time has passed from the "rescue" of the Oceanic 6 to the trial and then how much time passes from the trail to the flash forward at the end of Season 3 ?
I also think that Jack wants nothing to do with Aaron because he finds out that Claire is the illegitimate child of his father and he hates everything associated with his father - even his nephew. Pretty petty reason to keep yourself from the woman you love Uncle Jack.....
