According to the North County News in Ohio, John Kerry and 17,000 lawyers are getting ready for a Buckeye brawl.

In a series of e-mail interviews with North County News two weeks ago, Kerry spokesman David Wade spoke about recount efforts led by a team of 17,000 lawyers that could trigger the removal of President George W. Bush from office.

Since then, under mounting pressure from alternative media outlets as well as progressive voices outside the Democratic Party, Kerry issued a statement to his supporters that left open the possibility that he could obtain--through a recount--the requisite electoral votes to seize the White House.

"Regardless of the outcome of this election, once all the votes are counted--and they will be counted--we will continue to challenge this administration," Kerry said through a web-exclusive statement and video Friday, which, curiously, was not distributed to the press.

The usage of the word 'regardless' in the carefully parsed statement was the first indication Kerry has offered that, in his mind, the official election results might be inaccurate enough to tilt the election in his favor.

Wade was e-mailed the remarks from the White House spokeswoman.

Still sticking to what I said in the Rather thread, but *if* there is fraud, it's going to be a fun 30 days or so. Orange scarves, anyone? :P

I think you mean http://www.northcountynews.com/view.asp?s=11-24-04/news5.htm - and not to disparage the source, but...well, yeah. A weekly, "alternative media" paper?

Olbermann's Countdown blog (msnbc.msn.com) mentions a second press release, and....well, it just gets more confusing from there.

Of course, TUESDAY, a federal judge said there can't be a recount until after the results are certified, which is expected to be 6 December. Google News: "ohio recount" - take your pick (news.google.com)

If I accurately quote what you said in the Rather thread...

Just thought it was interesting, that's all -- I mean, if the story is true, then we've just seen the Green Party acting as a fullback for a Democratic run play. And if Nader gets involved in recounts, then it gets so fun and messy, since this is the same Ralph Nader that us Dems were bitching about before.

Like I said, I'm resigned to the fact that we'll have four more years of W; but it's fun to watch things play out until the Electoral College meets.

Look the Democrats just need to let it go.
I voted for Gore in 2000 and I was disapointed about the results.
But the non stop whining about the "stolen election" and everything else since then is what more than anything else made me vote for Bush in 04. Can anyone really claim that the Democrats have done a good job in the last 2 elections?
The embarassing Wellstone funeral that instead of mourning and praising a good man who tragically died was turned into politically rally.
The annoying and at first seeming to praise Bush bumperstickers that have been out there for the last 2 years. Celebrity after celebrity after celebrity acting like complete morons attacking Bush (Cameron Diaz I am looling at you).
What they have been doing clearly hasn't been working so basicly they should quit doing it. Try to appeal to voters instead of just saying "Bush is stupid and stole the election".

I think that's what most of us who are conservative have been saying to Dems for several years now. Look, we want choices too. But the Democrats haven't given us any. Kerry, Gephart, to some extent Gore - clones of each other. Lieberman - the best of the bunch, but unelectable. Dean was at least different and I could have at least given him consideration. I didn't hear enough about him to give him full consideration.

But the 2004 election wasn't about ideas the Dems had or about new stuff they were going to do or even, really, about stuff the Reps did wrong. It was about "Bush stole the election in 2000 and he's evil" Now, we all know Dubya's not perfect by any stretch. He's certainly willing to spend our money. But he had some ideas, like fixing the Tax code and keeping the pressure on the Islamic Terrorists. And he kept on the same message and the same topics instead of hopping around and hitting every topic that got popular for a day or two.

I hope that in 2008, whoever the Dems put forward, has some ideas, preferably some new ones. Tell us WHAT you mean by this health care initiative instead of telling us the Reps haven't done anything. Tell us HOW you're going to create jobs instead of telling us the Reps didn't. Tell us what you'd do different overseas instead of just telling us that the Reps didn't do so well. We may like the ideas, we may not, but at least it a choice between ideas instead of between an idea and an accusation.

Jesse Jackson is leading a rally in Columbus to protest the voting problems in Ohio this coming weekend.

Thousands of Ohio citizens had difficulty voting on November 2nd.

Despite thousands of complaints, a planned recount, statewide public hearings, several lawsuits, a Congressional investigation and the outcry of voters rights groups, this fact has been dismissed or underreported by the mainstream media. Even Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell claimed the Ohio election was a huge success, saying, "We came through with flying colors." Washington Times, 11/04/04

Thousands of people will attend the FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY RALLY to draw attention to voter issues AND to support the Congressional probe of allegations of irregularities in the November 2nd presidential vote.

Americas election system is badly flawed. So flawed, that a Cal Tech/MIT study of the 2000 Election discovered that as many as one in 18 citizens was disenfranchised due to procedural and/or technological anomalies. The 2004 election was no different! All citizens must have equal access to voting and the electoral process in order to ensure our democracy!

I don't think there's any chance anything gets overturned, Bush is still going to end up the winner.

But, it would be nice if the electronic voting machine would produce a true paper trail (sealed) to avoid the mistrust of the process.

In Ohio, there has to be a count before there can be a recount, and Ken Blackwell has not certified a count yet.

The 1 in 18 number seems a little high but I could believe it. In Oregon we switched to a new system that cut errors down from 2.5% to .8%.
But the voters have to take some responsibility for their own actions. If they voted for Bush and Kerry that it their fault. If they voted for neither that is their fault. If the mailed in their ballot and didn't sign it that is their fault.
Plus I don't buy the theory that all lazy, careless, and just plain stupid voters are Democrat. I would guess there are probably just as many lazy, careless, and stupid Republicans.
Oh and check my original post 4 above to see how I feel on this subject. Keep it up Democrats.
