Doesn't say if he'll coach the bowl game. I say let him watch the game from South Bend.

Don't blame him. It's the way the system works. Without getting into the BCS crap, it would take a miracle to get into the title game at Cincinnati.

The way this works sucks for the kids but I don't see it changing.

And Cincy seems to be able to make smart hires and here's hoping they do it again.

He won't last four years, unless they do a hell of a recruiting job.

I had high hopes for Cincy to mop the floor with Florida, but not with this distraction. I'm thinking Florida wins in a rout now.

This is a crying shame, but Cincinnati just needed Texas or Alabama to lose one of the several close games they played this year and they'd probably be in the national title game, and then does he leave? Notre Dame and the BCS win again. =(

That seems an odd assessment. The guy took a three-win Central Michigan team to 9-4 in three years, and went 34-6 at Cincinnati. (Cincinnati!) If anything, it seems Notre Dame FINALLY went the way they should have and got an up-and-coming guy who has had lots of success at every stop. They reached for Weis, Willingham was their second or third choice, and Davie wasn't accomplished as a head coach.

Interesting tweet from Chris Dufresne of the LA Times today on this: Kelly to ND one reason the Fiesta Bowl preferred Boise to Cincy. ... sorry BCS conspiracy theorists.

Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

Kelly is a proven recruiter in the Mid-West and has a good track record for turning around programs. Cincy was not going to beat Florida with it being Teabow's last game and their defense. He might as well coach the game. I do think he will last more then three years since he has the built in excuse for not having a QB and how terrible that defense is. He should turn it around in year three if not sooner. I think he is a great fit til they start running the whole he supports Pro-Choice candidates. Dear God, not all of us Notre Dame fans care about that especially in regards to our football choice.

Florida is losing it's DC, so it's got some turnover to deal with as well. Not to mention other than Tebow wanting to win his last game, there has to be some disappointment for that team about playing this game instead of for the title.

I don't really know, I think he'll do OK, but not get them to national championship level. Which means four years, yeah.

oh and DrDirt, so one extra second ticking off the clock last week for Texas is a miracle now?

He got Cincinnati to national championship level, he turned Central Michigan into the perennial MAC contender they are now, and he won national titles at GVSU. Yeah his defense that lost 10 of 11 starters kinda sucked this year, he must be DOOMED.

This makes me sad. I really like Brian Kelly, but I really hate Notre Dame. And my dislike for Notre Dame is going to win the day, so now I have to root against Brian Kelly.

Also, as a fan of a Big East school, I'd like for the conference to keep as many of it's good coaches as possible, so it also sucks on that front.

I predict he will finish his career with more undefeated regular seasons at Cincinnati than at Notre Dame.

Good move for the Irish. At least there is a track record of college coaching success, especially in the Midwest, with this hire.
As for his leaving Cincy: Until coaching contracts actually become binding on both parties rather just upon the universities, this is going to happen. College coaching is the only place where you get paid if you get fired under contract, but you can jump out on your contract.

Well, he won't coach the bowl game, and it sounds like that's a good thing as the players don't seem to want him around.

Cincy WR Gilyard "I didn't want to hear it," he said. "I'm fairly disgusted with the situation -- him letting it last this long. ... Everybody and their mamma knew what was going on. I feel like he did our team an injustice. Hopefully he'll pack his things up and get to South Bend in a hurry."

"We don't really care what he has to say anymore," tight end Ben Guidugli said after a post-banquet team meeting. "He can go talk to his Notre Dame team."

Most teams have QB's. The 3 most obvious choices are the other NFC North teams, and the Packers aren't trading him in the division. The NFC East is set if Gibbs likes Campbell, the South is set and the West is set.
