San Diego has claimed Deion to prevent him from going to the Raiders and put him on the reserve/retired list. I guess Marty was really able to screw Deion over this time. Now, if this was done quietly, maybe Deion could have slipped through. But, if he's going to announce that he will make a difference in the playoffs, its nice to see good ol' Marty screw Deion over.

as a redskin fan who watched deion take that money and and decide not to play because he wasn't consulted on the coaching change of Turner -> Robiske -> Shottenheimer, i'm glad he's getting screwed....

Deion is overrated. He was an average CB with great marketing. Marty gets his revenge.

From the infamous Wrestleline SS interview:

DTD: If you were to make changes in WCW, if you were in charge and not Ric Flair, what would they be?

SS: I'd get rid of all the old guys, and push the talent that has waited to get the push. The things they are doing, it's back in the 1980s. It's just bad, man. Flair doesn't even deserve to be on the show. You've got to get rid of all the old guys. Like what Vince did, they started pushing guys. Nobody knew who The Rock was 2 years ago. He made The Rock. Now The Rock just did Saturday Night Live. You've got to start with the young talent, talent people can relate to. Who are we trying to relate to if we've got a 50 year old man out there? Are we trying to relate, so a 50 year people and above will go out and buy a f*cking little toy? That ain't gonna happen. It's a f*cking joke.

Does it remind you of any show in particular?

Besides, Deion isn't old enough to play for the Raiders.
I'm glad the Chargers did it. If they didn't, the four other teams that claimed him would have, and it didn't cost the Chargers any cap space to do it.

Help me out here. Why would the Chargers care about Deion playing on the Raiders, at least this year? The Chargers are not going to the playoffs (unless 18 other teams lose this weekend anyway), so why bother? For that matter, the Redskins and Cowboys wouldn't need to snap up Deion since their seasons are over as well. I guess I could see the 49ers picking him up, but even then it's unlikely that we will see Raiders/49ers in the Super Bowl.

And if Deion is as mediocre as everyone seems to think (I don't buy it), then why get all worried about the Raiders' chances with Sanders?

I'm not trying to be troll-like with this; I really just don't understand the reasoning behind the Deion saga. In fact, I had really hoped that any team would have picked up Deion, just so I wouldn't have to see him on the CBS Pre-game show any more.

the redskins didn't need to "snap him up" because he was on their roster, before they released him to create this whole mess.

the chargers probably aren't goint to the playoffs, the raiders are, so that's why they "snapped him up."

doesn't matter anyway. he was on the Retired/reserve list here, so where ever he goes, he goes on their retired/reserve list too, so the chargers can't play him unless he wants to unretire...but, no one can play him either...

3 Simple Reasons:
1) It didn't cost the Chargers any money.
2) It could potentially screw the Raiders, which even if they don't make the playoffs, probably provides happiness to their fan base.
3) Marty gets the last laugh on Deion for the crap he pulled when he was named head coach in Washington.

On The NFL Today, Deion Sanders had this to say about Marty:

"I wouldn't play for him even if he coached the last team on earth."

"I just got pinned by a friggin twelve-year-old."

I have to agree with the removing him from NFL Today bit...that crew really just doesn't have the chemistry of the Fox group, or even the ESPN Sunday Countdown guys. Plus, I could see Boomer just turning around and decking him one of these days, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Sure the Chargers probably won't make the playoffs, but they aren't dead yet, which is why I can see the reason that the Chargers did it. Count me in the "Deion is overrated" camp, but overrated doesn't mean bad.

With the injuries in the Raiders secondary, he would certainly help, and I would have to question the collective intelligence of any potential playoff team that would let an opponent pick up a former all-pro if they had to ability to stop it. If san Diego hadn't claimed him, I'm sure the Jets, or the Dolphins, or the Titans would have.
