| #1 Posted on 26.2.03 1251.01 | Instant Rating: 5.54 | I was thinking about CRZ's comment that "levels don't matter" and frankly, after working like a god to get to level seven, I was more than a little disappointed. I was downright bitter.
But then I had a shining moment of clarity and realized what CRZ really meant. He meant that the Wienerville boards are based on the inner workings of actual wrestling promotions.
Posting, gaining experience points, and gaining levels are like "paying your dues", but they don't matter because posters can still be unjustly rewarded if they catch the promoter's eye.
With that in mind I suggest a minor modification to the current system. When someone posts they either gain experience as expected or suddenly go up or down, like Chutes and Ladders.
I'm currently at level 7 with 1144 points. When I post this message, I'm supposed to gain 33 points, but what if I suddenly shot up to level 15, or down to level 2? That would make things exciting.
We could even map these various chutes and ladders onto actual wrestling events. Here are some examples using Lex Luger's career:
Join the Four Horsemen - gain 5 levels
Jump from WCW to WBF - lose 7 levels
Lex Express - gain 8 levels
Bodyslam Yokozuna on an aircraft carrier - lose 1 level (too cheesy)
Yearlong feud with Tatanka - lose 12 levels
Jump from RAW to Nitro - gain 10 levels
Partner with Crow Sting - lose 2 levels
Russo hired as booker - lose 5 levels
Or how about Triple H:
Break kayfabe at MSG - lose 5 levels
Start dating Chyna - gain two levels (weird factor)
Chyna becomes more popular than you - lose four levels (Mark Mero's disease)
Dump Chyna for bosses daughter - gain twenty levels and admin powers
Just a thought.

| #5 Posted on 26.2.03 1442.20 | I think "levels don't matter" simply means that we at the 'Ville (is it still okay to call it that?- it's still in the logo, so...), we don't care what level someone is. All that matters is that someone posts something INTERESTING. No one cares if you post a reply to every single topic; they care that you have something to say and that you don't flame other people or post useless things.
(Wiener of the Day is the true measure of a posters worth... kidding).
That having been said, seeing Boston Idol's level drop to -1 is the funniest thing I've ever seen happen here.

I can honestly say that an ignore function would be pretty useless. Sure, there might be SOME posters you find completely annoying, but if they make any positive contribution to a thread, and you have them set on ignore, certain threads would become completely impossible to follow.
Choas would ensue.
It is not as if it is terribly difficult to simply ignore the post "manually" as it were, and then read it only if you feel it is necessary. Threads are not like chat rooms, were an annoying poster is a true detriment...

I bet that if I, for one whole week, only posted 'That's what SHE said.' in every thread twice a day, it would be just as annoying as the jerkass who does this in chat rooms...

One of the great ideas Aaron had with it was that if somebody "earned" enough ignores, they'd get auto-banned, saving us some trouble.
I had two other things I wanted to implement before I tackled this - the code for links was one of them and that's done. Maybe I'll work on this this month...unless you guys keep longing for it publicy, in which case I'll move it to the bottom of the list again. ;-)
