Interesting list, and I pretty much agree with the top ten.

If the 04 Patriots are in the top 10, the 03 Pats should be as well. They went 10-0 against teams who had 10 or more wins that year, and don't give me the BS that Carolina was a "weak super bowl team". 90% of the national media though the Panthers were going to win that game. Short memories it seems.

The '04 Patriots had a more banged-up secondary, but they also had Corey Dillon. The '04 vintage was the best Patriots team ever, and it will probably be the best for a long time to come.

Ranking the 91 Redskins BEHIND the 1996 Packers or the 1992 Cowboys invalidates the whole list.

They're aware what did happen in SB 3. They're just saying that looking at the season as a whole, the Colts were the better team, and the Jets got lucky to win. Everyone knows that anything can (and frequently does) happen over the course of a 60 minute game. That doesn't mean that New York was obviously the better team.

Unless, of course, you actually watched the game (which is shown quite frequently on ESPN Classic, for those who did not get to see it as it happened). There is no way even a casual football fan can watch the way the Jets dominated the Colts in Super Bowl III and come away believing that the Jets were not obviously the better team. The only luck the Jets had was that they were "lucky" to be the better team.

So the ESPN people who have constantly told me that DI football must have to playoff to decide who truly is the best team in college football are now saying that playoffs don't really determine who was the best team?

Ok then.

On topic: eh I guess it's a fine list. Really not into lists anyway. Just was floored by their reasoning there.

Oregon State beat USC. No one would say they are better than USC. Flimsy.

Go here for a better list.

It's on the NFL Network. They are counting down the 20 greatest SB teams. Tonight at 8 ET they are doing a special on the 98 Broncos, who they ranked as #12 all-time. The previous rankings are as follows...

20. 83 Raiders
19. 99 Rams
18. 69 Chiefs
17. 94 49ers
16. 96 Packers
15. 71 Cowboys
14. 91 Redskins
13. 86 Giants

They also let the fans pick their top 20. So far the fans top 5 is as follows...

1. 85 Bears
2. 72 Dolphins
3. 89 49ers
4. 66 Packers
5. 03 Pats

What does a regular season loss have to do with ESPN's changing stance of the validity of a playoff champion? They have told us(over and over and over and over) a playoff is the only true way to find the best team. Now here clearly they say winning a playoff does not make you the best team. It's not my logic, it's ESPN's, and it's not consistant.

No one is saying a playoff gives you the BEST team. Obviously the best team doesn't always win. Just because Team A beats Team B, doesn't mean they are the BETTER team. Hence my OSU-USC example.

(If you want to be an idiot about it, fine. Boise State beat Oklahoma. Is Boise State BETTER than Oklahoma? Probably not. Happy?)

If the best team ALWAYS won there wouldn't be any need to play the games.

If the better team always won, then we would have a 16-0 and an 0-16 team at least once per year.

This is a really great series, but unless I missed something, how did they not get John Elway for that one? HELLO. John Elway! Plus, it meant more of Shannon Sharpe talking, which is never a good thing.

Only reason I can think of is that the 97 Broncos team is still to come, and he's in that one.

I don't think that team made the top 20. They are supposed to show the 40-21 episodes at some point, though, so maybe he is on that one.

The 2004 Patriots one was on last night with Belichick, Troy Brown, and Tedy Bruschi. I watched it three times. Belichick's pregame speech where he told the players about Philly's victory parade plans ("it's at 11:00 on Tuesday, in case any of you want to attend") was great.
