I know it's probably a moot point because you've probably already figured out what you want, but I think the board in general would be better off with less individual forums.
I know the current setup is for organization of discussion, but quite honestly, most of these forums have too little content in them and thus are a bit dry. Aside from wrestling, it doesn't seem like the others have enough action in them by themselves, and by having less forums and making the topics broader, the concentration of threads would provide for better accessibility AND input.
If it were up to me, in terms of the actual discussion forums, I'd simply stick with wrestling and off-topic. But for practical purposes, here are a couple of suggestions:
--Merge sports forums into one. There isn't much action in them day-to-day individually, and I'm sure there are more general sports fans than those who stick to one. And for example, if there were a football fan who didn't want to see hockey threads, he'd either have the decency to skip it over, or at least have the casual knowledge of hockey to understand it (as none of the threads go too in-depth) and perhaps even partake in it. Most sport threads are pretty general anyway, so I'm sure many would prefer this.
--Make a pop culture forum of sorts. What I mean by that is put music, movies and TV into one. Actually, much of 'Random' is about movies and TV anyway, so maybe just abolish all specialty forums (except sports and politics) and have an All-purpose Off-topic forum.
Imagine the setup of:
Wrestling General Discussion Sports Politics
Site Bashing Guest Columns Site Feedback Test Banished
Instead of going back and forth between so many different forums and their respective one or two new threads at most, I think it'd be better off if we had more content in a smaller number of clicks. Of course, I could be way off, so feel free to ignore this if you want. But it's just a suggestion based on the enjoyment level I've had at other places with this type of setup.
I could see the general usefulness of what's being suggested, but I like the current set-up of the board. I can skip certain forums altogether, check other forums for any interesting topics, and read in depth the forums that I like to read most. Condensing them means it wouldn't be so easy to skip stuff like the Hockey forum. I already know way too much about boxing since that gets put in Random and I don't know enough about the topics to know when its boxing and I should skip it.
I wouldn't mind it though if there was a way to allow a user-defined forum view. Such that if I wanted to make one uber-forum containing threads from all the forums I'd normally read, then I could do that. This way, I could check Site Bashing, Site Feedback, Random, and Video Games all in one shot. Paragon, if desired, could aggregate all the sports forums to make his life easier. That might be useful.
While I'm at it, a minor request: Would it be possible to add a link to the main forum page that automatically marks a given forum read? I don't like seeing the new post indicator in the Hockey Forum, but since I'm working through the rest of the board, it isn't convenient for me to click Mark All Forums read, so I have to go into Hockey to do that.
I first thought "No way" but your ideas intrigued me. I'm all for it.
While we're at it, can we eliminate Site Bashing?

I have no desire to navigate through more crap than I have to. For the most part I don't check the Baseball or KZIM forums unless I have a lot of time to kill. I don't want those mixed in with things I AM interested in.

Man, I think we need MORE!
Possible new forums: Nobody watches that TV show but you Nobody plays that video game but you Nobody takes that "What (x) are you?" quiz but you Nobody cares about that cause but you
Of course, I already have ALL those forums with CRZ's World, but if you're NOT me it can certainly be a problem.
The deal is, we really shouldn't cram any more rows into the table the way the index page is laid out (yeah, there are probably too many as it is). We've pondered some redesigns but haven't really tried anything yet.
Me, I think we should delete the Wrestling forum.
Eddie, I'll try to throw some sort of "Mark this forum read" link on the index page today. Maybe if we're real clever, some time in the future we can come up with a way for registered members to only display certain forums.

Thanks about the link. There's no hurry for either of those things, since they are just humble requests, but given the (presumed) amount of work required for the display forums suggestion, I won't hold my breath waiting for its implementation. Although I am holding my breath for that spell checker...

Why not just give every thread its own forum? Now *that* would make a good looking board!

OK, you got the "<" (mark forum read) on the main forum page, and it works. But what does the ">" do? It seems to bring up old threads/parts of threads (from '01 and '02) in some forums, and nothing in others. Or maybe you just haven't gotten it to work correctly?

It depends on the last time you've marked that forum read - clicking on ">" has always taken you to the "oldest newest" thread - that is, the first thread newer than your "marked read" timestamp for that particular forum. If you've never marked the forum read, you might have a couple hundred "new" threads in the forum and might want to consider doing a "mark all forums read" to clear out the deadwood.
Ah, but I don't think anyone's posted one of those "What (x) are you?" threads since you laid down the law months ago. Hmm - maybe it's time someone tests the waters (and gets smacked hard for their efforts). Volunteers?

When reading a title called Less Forums = better. I fully expected CRZ to respond with "Less posters = better" LoL... But he did at least take a swing at the wrestling folder.
