Has anyone else here realized that no matter what happens, Lesnar stands to gain absolutely nothing from his match with Taker coming up?

I mean, if he wins, he beat a guy with a broken hand, so Taker's got an easy excuse. If he loses, then he lost to a guy with only one hand, so he looks weak.

Why do they insist on screwing up any chance at new guys holding any kind spot near the top with Triple H and Taker? Unless the REAL Undertaker's cheating storyline is from Taker sleeping with Stephanie to become the top guy on the program (hey, we've seen it done to perfection on RAW)...

I have to disagree. Exploiting a man's injury is a classic heel tactic. While considered 'unsportsmanlike' it is perfectly legal according to the 'rules' of pro-wrestling. Yes, Taker has an excuse, but if he goes into a match with a broken hand, it's his own fault whatever happens to him. If Brock wins because of the hand, it's still a clean win, no matter how the injury was first caused.

Go back to the Kane/Angle match from Novemer 2001. Just prior to the match, SCSA brutally attacked Kane's ankle with a chair, then Angle worked on siad ankle until finally clamping on the anklelock and making Kane tap out for the first time ever. I don't recall Angle's stock falling after that match.

This kind of angle usually ends one of two ways. If the face goes over, the heel loses heat while the face gains it (since the injured face should logically get his ass handed to him). If the heel wins, the heel gains heat but the face doesn't lose it (The face has an out due to the injury, but the heel is seen as a huge prick for exploiting it). As long as Brock wins, he has nothing to lose.

Plus the fact that Brock was the guy who actually, y'know, broke Taker's hand in the first place.

But remember, we are using WWF/E logic here. Since Taker won't get his ass kicked, and he actually had to sell an injury angle, that means, because of his being a leader in the locker room, he will go over Lesnar. It makes no sense to bury the young talent for the second coming of Brian Lee, but I have the bad feeling its going to happen. Oh well, at least the HHH fans will be happy for a few months, because Taker will become the official posterboy of all that is wrong with wrestling.

Seriously guys. Taker has been in the WWF/E for what? 12 years or something? Do you think that loosing a HITC match to somebody they are pushing to the moon, will really, REALLY hurt his credibility? All this talk about loosing heat is rediculous. Some wrestlers have no need to ever worry about heat. UT has a loyal fan base, that losing a match isnt going to diminish. Some wrestlers have reputations that simply wont die. Think all those HOGAN chants at Wrestlemania this year was because he was going over Rocky?

It kills me when you self proclaimed "smarks" sit and pontificate the meaning of "heat" and how it is made or destroyed, as if one match really matters in the long run.

Taker will go down, because if he wins, then what's the point of the Lesnar super-duper push? But it won't be clean. Nothing near like what Rock did.

I think that Taker could lose every match for a year, and he still wouldn't lose a bit of popularity with the fans. I can't stand the guy, but there's no denying that he's very over. But it's a shame that, judging by his matches, he doesn't feel the need to put others over.

Tribal Prophet, well with the Rock/Lesnar match, it was setup where the Rock had injured ribs. They didn't tape them up for the angle, but the announcers constantly noted how the Rock had bad ribs, and Lesnar consistently worked them over in their summerslam match. However, I think the clean victory and the crowd turning on Rocky helped Lesnar for the better.

Y'know, I really wonder how this stuff about 'Taker first got started. In Mankind's book, Calloway was described as a great worker and someone who wasn't unwilling to put over an overweight guy in a leather mask noone'd ever heard of. Did he become really really cranky in the next few years? Or maybe HHH secretly took out the Undertaker's brain and replaced it with a clone of his, so he could hold down TWICE the talent! Mah god! He IS that damn good!

Next week on Smackdown, I want to see Lesnar bring out a softcore porn video that shows Tracy going nuts riding 'Taker and he just lays there an no-sells it. They could later say that Lesnar made a secret video of 'Taker just lying in bed watching TV or something and then superimposed the video of Tracy over the top of that but it'd be funny to parody his no-selling that way.

The Undertaker is not equal to Hollywood Hulk Hogan or The Rock.

Triple H was taking off for some time (if not permenently and/or if not permenently for a while) and The Rock is going to the movies for a while. The Undertaker is not and I think not selling Brock Lesnar as an invincable force is a good thing.

If he beats everyone but Kurt Angle, then what? What's left for him to do? If it's shown that the faces have some chance against him people are more likely to be interested in a rematch.

Back to The Undertaker, he CAN NOT lose this match fully cleanly, because he needs to have a purpose for the next month.

"Did he become really really cranky in the next few years?"

He came back in May 2000 and started squashing more rising stars than the WCW booking team. Hahaha I like that line.
Edge & Christian, Kurt Angle, Diamond Dallas Page, Palumbo & O'Haire, Booker T., Rob Van Dam, the Hardys (a million times), Jeff Hardy (a million times), Matt Hardy v1.0, the Undertaker MADE THEM FAMOUS by giving them no offense. That jerk. Nevertheless, he gotsta be putting Brock over since he's leaving for elbow surgery after the PPV.

Ah yes, the CHEAT TO WIN team of Edge and Christian and their buddy Kurt. Who were all champions. HEEL Champions. I got no problem with that at all. And I'm sorry, but I enjoyed RVD/UT, Hardys/UT (would Matt v1.0 be over without Taker?), and most of all UT/MAVEN~!

Oh yeah, and the Invasion (with the exception of Austin/Angle) sucked. Every last bit. So I don't blame it on UT, Kane, DDP, Chuck/Palumbo, or even Kronik. It just sucked.

With poison running through your veins, and death marching solemnly towards you, heroic acts become more of a necessity as you see your time dwindling.

Vanquishing your enemies, making amends to those you have wronged, and leaving words of love and kindness for those around you become second nature as your own mortality looms

However, true strength lies not in these last desperate acts, but in the actions of one who has to get out of bed the next day and face the consequences of doing that which you believe is right.

"would Matt v1.0 be over without Taker?"

How has getting crushed on a weekly basis by Undertaker gotten Matt over? What favors he's done for him, giving him four punches and a lowblow.

"Oh yeah, and the Invasion (with the exception of Austin/Angle) sucked. Every last bit. So I don't blame it on UT, Kane, DDP, Chuck/Palumbo, or even Kronik. It just sucked."

It sucked because WWF never sold for WCW in storyline. The whole colossal failure is summed up in the Undertaker/Page "confrontation" at KOR.

Without Matt's raving that he beat the Taker and going on how great he is he would not have been over this big.
He would be slowly turning heel on Shannon Moore right now.

By the simple fact that Taker no sold everything Matt had to bring he put Matt Hardy v1 over BIG TIME..

This is not saying Taker had anything to do with that, but more of a compliment to Matt and the direction he is heading in. While typing this I am reminded of Jericho and Goldberg. Just by having the heel claim things that never really took place he gets over as a bigger heel.
