Well the Shawn Michaels/Triple H feud could have been better, but it did do something important, at least in my opinion.
When Shawn won the belt in the elimination chamber, it legitimized the championship belt. It was no longer just a belt that had been handled to Triple H and that he had managed to retain. It wasn't just a ego symol Triple H carried around with him. Even though he had defended it, it still didn't seem as if triple H had earned it. Then Shawn won the belt and he has given it a history, short though it may be.
Now we seem to be back where we were a few months ago, but I am glad at least that this feud had Triple H lose the belt and then fight someone to get it back, in a grueling 2 out of 3 falls match. The quality of the match aside, I think it accomplished something at least.
I have no real love for Triple H, but now both he and the belt have earned some respect which will be good for the upcoming months, making him even more the top heel on RAW that Rob Van Damn or Scott Steiner or someone will be chasing after. I know many of us have become pessimistic, but I am hoping for good things in the future.
I somewhat disagree; if they can book a decent feud out of this, I'll be happy with the progress.
However, when you can call the booking before the match even starts, why even watch even with the "history?" At the same time, I'll give them decent props for the match... I was wondering if Trips tore his quad again the rousing cheer the IWC would have given... but you still don't want to see someone get hurt that way.
Off topic: Al Wilson has a bigger glass ceiling than HHH -- he keeps the SD! ratings down.
The belt won't be legitimite to me until Triple H loses the title, and then that person loses the title to someone besides Triple H. Is the Million Dollar belt legitimate just because Virgil won from DiBiase once? No, because he won it right back. Ditto with the Smoking Skull belt. If Michaels had lost it to HHH, it would be legitimate. Until then, it's Triple H's prop.
The belt appears to be more than a prop...a little bit. It could be good if the feud between Triple H and Steiner focuses around the belt as much as it does about who's better than who (not that there's anything WRONG with those kinds of feuds). If Steiner gets the belt in a hard-fought match, on the level of his last match against Booker T, then the belt can get some prestige.
Too bad Steiner won't win. No way Vince is letting Triple H job to the new guy from WCW.

Well, many people would argue that the belt Triple H is wearing rightfully belongs to Steiner, anyway.
I'm not one of those people, but anyway... it'd be nice to see one of the former WCW Champions make an issue with Triple H over his holding “my” belt. Be it Steiner, Booker, Goldberg or Jeff Jarrett. You know... one of the guys who's most-known for his accomplishments in WCW, rather than in WWF/E.
As for the pending match between Triple H and Scott Steiner. If they let Steiner unleash the kind of violence that he showcased in WCW, I'm all for this match. On a violence scale, Big Poppa Pump was at Triple H's level before Triple H was at that level. But Steiner especially turned violence into some sick kind of art form during WCW's last couple of years, when it seemed he was beating the hell out of everyone-- either in the ring, or with his trusty steel pipe. Hell, he was so vicious we actually coined a phrase for him-- “He went absolutely STEINER on him!”
So Steiner, to me, is a legitimate badass, and an excellent choice to feud with Triple H. Perhaps just as importantly, he didn't spend any part of his promo putting over Triple H or saying he respected him. He said he was gonna kick Hunter's ass, and dared Hunter to try and do something about it. And Trips backed down. Sweeet. I'd love to see Big Poppa Pump slap the Steiner Recliner on Triple H at the Royal Rumble until Hunter screams, “Please, Mr. Steiner, I give up, just stop hurting me!”
Holla if you hear me.

That got me thinking... what if someone tried to taunt HHH by showing footage of Terra Ryzing?
Rob Van Dam mocked the water routine and just look where he is now. If anyone brought up Terra Ryzing they'd be hosting Heat from the world for the next three years.
