Wow, I have no idea how the US would be able to function if this had ever occurred in the USA. I know we have laws in place to handle this sort of thing, but the chaos would be overwhelming.
Plane was repaired by Russians a few months ago. Plane crashes in Russia. Russia and Poland have had centuries of problems. Putin has put himself in charge of the investigation. Why would anyone be the slightest bit suspicious of this? Someplace in the back of my mind is the same thought I once had after hearing about the obscure killing of the head of the Northern Alliance, and for some reason thinking that might be the signal of something else.
I'm confused -- was this a commercial aircraft? Or was it actually a polish national aircraft? I assume that presidents of any large-ish country would have their own version of Air Force One. Not necessarily with all the bells & whistles, but at least a private aircraft. Was this that aircraft?

The aircraft is discussed towards the bottom of this article.

Except don't we usually try and spread people out so something like this couldn't happen?

State of the Union/Presidential speech to a joint session of Congress would be the time where you would get almost everyone in the chain of command, except the person they have not show up to ensure the chain at some point, in a singular location.

Yeah, I was amazed that they'd put that many important people in one plane. Lots of companies (and presumably governments, though I don't know of specific examples offhand) have rules regarding who can fly together just in case a plane goes down. The people who know the formula for Coca-Cola can't fly together. Even at my mom's company, which isn't that big, I know the CEO and the VPs have to be spread among several planes if they're all flying to the same meeting.
