According to an Associated Press source, Cleveland's LeBron James has won his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award, joining an elite group that's pulled off that accomplishment.

The other players to achieve this are Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Steve Nash. (Russell, Chamberlain and Bird won it three years in a row).

No surprises here; LeBron became the first forward in NBA history to average at least 8 assists a game, and not to mention he averaged over 7 boards a game and had nearly had 30 points a contest.

The Cavs won 61 games and homecourt throughout the playoffs (but only a ring for the King will suffice for this season). Anyway, LeBron's ability to take over a game is perhaps only bested by Kobe Bryant but even that is debatable.

LeBron joins 7 hall-of-famers and 2 future hall-of-famers in winning the MVP in consecutive seasons. LeBron easily won the award last season but I am curious to see how much he wins by this season.

True, but as I recall correctly there are no Hall-of-Fame eligible players who've won the MVP award even once and not gotten into the Hall of Fame.

Have to wonder if Dirk's gonna change that one day.

It's funny... before Steve Nash won his first MVP award, I wouldn't have pegged him as having a snowball's chance in hell of getting into the Hall of Fame, even though I've always liked him and his game.

The 3 Dwight Howard voters were
- color commentator for the Magic
- writer for orlandomagic.com
- writer who said he wouldn't vote for LeBron because he was sitting out games near the end.

The Durant voters have not yet been outed.

See, I can at least understand a case for Durant given OKC's surprising success this season. James is the obviously better pick but at least you can make a semi-reasonable argument for the Durantula.

Howard, on the other hand, is an indefensible pick. No surprise that his votes all came from people literally on the Magic payroll.
