ESPN ombudsman slams network over The Decision. Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=ohlmeyer_don&id=5397113

This also highlights the fact that LeBron really needs someone with PR experience to advise him. From a marketing perspective, it's a really bad idea to go on prime time tv and piss off three cities (4 if anyone in LA actually thought the Clips had a chance at him). It's a colossally bad idea if two of those cities/media markets are Chicago and New York.

What's the point of the ESPN ombudsman?

Shilling sports they have contracts with over sports where they don't do the games...
MNF Guests doing interviews, talking over game action...
Oversaturation of Sawx-Yankees...
Interminable Brett Favre navel-gazing year after year...
What happens in ESPN isn't news (e.g. ignoring the Harold Reynolds firing)...
Oversaturation of Cowboys and Patriots...
Interminable Terrell Owens coverage at his attention-whore heights...
Selling off chunks of SportsCenter to sponsors (e.g. "The Coors Light Cold Hard Facts - A Six-Pack of Questions")
Covering the Vick case as a round-the-clock breaking news story and constantly misinforming the audience with conflicting and inaccurate information...
Selling out their editorial reputation to air 'The Decision'...

There's been at least three people in the position - has ESPN ever listened to them?

Here's the story that popped up on ESPN and was quickly taken down for 'editorial reasons'. Arash Markazi is allowed to follow Lebron for his Vegas party ... Click Here (docs.google.com)

For some reason this part cracks me up ...

Towards the end of the night, Boston Celtics center Glen Davis(notes) walks past James' party and looks at the scene up and down several times like a painting in a museum, soaking in the images of the go-go dancers, the "King" sign and the costumed man delivering bottles of champagne.
Davis shakes his head and walks on.

Thanks for posting this. I read through it and I'm not quite sure why the article was removed. On PTI they were saying something about how the author didn't properly identify himself as a writer or something like that so the article didn't meet ESPN's journalistic standards, but I don't really know what that's all about.

I would hope it wasn't removed for its content though because there wasn't really anything all that negative in the article. It actually seems rather PG rated for what I'd expect from a celeb in Vegas.

I've got no problem with Stu adding "hyperbole or flair". All of the anchors on SportsCenter do it. It's what makes the show so much better than whatever they're doing on Fox SportsNet.
