While I'm busy starting threads, I might as well see if anybody else caught "Numbers" on Sunday. I did! I guess I was sucked in by the ads. Since I like Rob Morrow and I LOVE the man they call HIRSCH, I stuck around after the AFC game and watched it.
I'm a math geek! I thought "Pi" was a good movie! So....hey, this show was actually pretty good. I'm not exactly sure how they'll be able to work with the premise for a season's worth of shows, but then, all of CBS's shows get cancelled after five or six episodes anyway, right? I'm not sure how plausible I found the "math" part of it, but they definitely TRIED. So I'LL try to give it at least another shot.
The REAL problem is the regular time slot - a kiss of death at 10/9 Friday nights. I couldn't even be bothered to watch "CSI" at that time!
When it seems like the whole world is full of idiots, maybe your standards are a bit high. - Guru Zim
The show is way too smart for television, and way way too smart for a Friday night time slot(see: "Mister Sterling"). I hate math, but the conceptualization was awesome.
To be fair though, it did pop a 25 rating on Sunday night and had the sixth highest rating of the week.
It had a pretty good lead in with all of the way it was hyped constantly throughout the Pats/Steelers. Plus, the bad weather throughout the country kept folks at home.
I'll give it a shot, but I gotta agree it looks a tough job to spread this concept over a whole season.
I tuned in for Rob Morrow and there she is, without warning...Sabrina Lloyd!
What a wonderful suprise.

"As long as the check don't bounce, I guess he's okay with it!" --Former All Pro Giants LB Harry Carson on Bill Parcells joining the hated rival Dallas Cowboys
I was a little biased towards hating this show...and I hated it, nonetheless. Dropped by my Old Man's joint to watch the Stillers game, and since he's a math professor he insisted on us watching it.
I liked how the ingenious equation wasn't shown, and how the whole thing was furthered by an aside from their dad (Judd Hirsch). I thought it was "numb3rs", not "random comm3nts that h3lp to solv3 crim3s". I was expecting some nifty revelation with the number gimmick, instead of "oh, the killer might work or live around the area". I imagine a future episode will involve him devising an equation that shows "yes, the bullet went THROUGH the victim's lung".
So I guess the moral of the story was: if you're thinking about getting in the serial offender biz, drive really far out of the way to do your crimes.
I just can't get into any network dramas. I'll tune in if a plot involves someone droppin' a cinder block on Peter MacNicol, though.
I enjoyed the show, but I'm a mark for David Krumholtz, what can I say? The additional joy of Judd Hirsch back on my television was only a bonus. The premise is a bit strained, but it's better than iteration number five thousand of "Let's cut up a dead body". Unfortunately, it's on against Monk and, thus, I'll only watch it when that's a rerun, and they -just- started a new season. It'll probably be cancelled before I get around to it, then.

I too am a mark for David Krumholtz, god knows why. Maybe it's because he's the next Jewish Tom Cruise, move over Ben Stiller!
As for the show, I totally dig the math angle. Sure, it'll probably often be Star Trek level gibberish with little basis in reality but it's a fun twist. I think the chemistry between cast members could be better but hey, it's been one whole episode. In the end the show was well worth watching just for seeing the guy who played Tim Taylor's brother on Home Improvement be the bad guy.
He already had a recurring role on CSI: Miami in season one as a pedophile and was pretty evil there, too.
I watched it, I enjoyed it, although I found that it had the same problem that House does, plotwise, where the infallible genius seems to have the problem solved by halfway through the show, but has to be wrong because otherwise it'd only be 30 minutes long.

I have now watched the tape of the show and I thought it was quite good. Once it was over I said to my wife "I'll watch that again; I thought that was pretty good." She responded with a "Of course you would, you geek."

Funny you mention Mathnet, Joe Howard that played George Frankly on Mathnet, did a short bit role on West Wing this week. As soon as I saw him I was like "Hey it's the Mathnet guy!" My wife of course has no memory of Mathnet, so I am glad to know at least someone else also watched Square One!
I really loved "Mathman". That tornado kicked ass. I also watched a lot of Mathnet. I have no idea why I ever watched Square One as much as I did, because I hated math. But I loved that show.
Speaking of hating math, I thought Numb3rs was ok. Sabrina Lloyd doesn't hurt my chances of watching it again, but she's been in other stuff I watched too, but I kept watching Sportsnight and Sliders because I actually liked the shows, and I'm not sure yet whether or not Numb3rs will fall into the same category. I liked it fine for now, but the premise seems like it'd wear pretty thin fairly quickly, like after this season, so the question is how quickly will I lose intrest? We'll see I guess.

I know that this is continuing the thread highjacking, but I LOVED Mathnet. That was until they took off Kate Monday and replaced her with a woman with less than half Kate's personality. My favorite episode was "The Brothers Karamazov."
WADSWORTH: The games up, Scarlet. There are no more bullets left in that gun. SCARLET: Oh, come on, you don't think I'm gonna fall for that old trick? WADSWORTH: It's not a trick. There was one shot at Mr. Boddy in the study. Two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door, and one for the singing telegram. SCARLET:That's not six. WADSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one. SCARLET:Nuh, uh. There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus ONE plus one. WADSWORTH: Even if you are right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus TWO plus one plus one. SCARLET:(thinking) Okay, fine. One plus two plus one--(angered) Shut up!
Thanks for a great season, Pick of the Week fans...see you next year at Planet Magic in Denmark, WI!
Much love for Square One over here. I still can't get "The Graph of Love" out of my head.
"Mathnet" was way cool, but the video-game thingy "Mathman" rocked the casbah for yours truly.

glad to see this finally on DVD. A very strange version of the Scottish play, filmed on the cheap by Orson at night, on the set of a B-movie western. Yes, it co-stars Roddy McDowell AND Alfred from the Batman TV series.
