We've got a several year old Dell Vostro 1500 that keeps telling us that we're getting to the end of the useful life of the battery. Now we usually use the thing plugged in anyway, but seems like we need a new battery. On the Dell site, they run like $180, which seems like a lot to me. Is there some sort of smaller laptop that you all would recommend for just browsing the internet, facebook, etc.?

I hate getting parts from Dell. I needed a slim DVD-Rom drive in kind of a hurry. I ordered it and paid for overnight shipping - and it took nearly 3 weeks to ship. Thankfully, a very nice Indian woman refunded all of the shipping charges.

I had really good luck with a "Refurbished" Gateway laptop I bought from TigerDirect for $450. I could have spent less.
I don't know why, but all my new inbound mail has a messed-up timestamp. Mail I got a few minutes ago (at 8:15 PM) said 4:15 AM instead. My sent messages have the right time, as does my desktop clock. Any ideas?
