Still hard to believe that this years postseason won't feature the Lakers, but the final dagger comes courtesy of Phoenix. I still say heads need to roll for this travesty of a season and WCW-like collapse (sacrificing the good of the entire team to satisfy one primadonna. Tell me you can't draw parallels between Kobe and Hogan). The excuse will be "Well, this is a young team", but then again...don't we hear that same excuse every year for the Clippers?

Of note, tonight was also the night the Heat clinched the East. Not that Shaq hasn't already gotten the last laugh, but if the Heat win it all...

PLEASE BELIEVE IT

I complained to another Liberal friend about some of the Left’s tone concerning the 2004 elections. I thought it insulting to hear those “red state” voters caricatured as red-necked rubes. My friend asked, “Well, don’t you think that people who live in large urban areas, who travel and read and speak other languages are better able to make informed choices?” It turns out it is superiority, not familiarity, which breeds contempt. - Pat Sajak

So whose head is going to roll? Kobe runs the team. Even Chucky Atkins says he's the general manager! Is Kobe going to trade himself? What team would want him? He's a selfish player that craves the spotlight. I would take LeBron James in a heartbeat over Bryant.

Maybe Shaq can buy Kobe a ticket to the playoffs...

I'd take LeBron as well, but, the way things seem to be freefalling in Cleveland, LeBron won't be seeing the playoffs either. Think David Stern is taking an extra second when he shaves around his jugular these days?

Looks like LeBron's first few years might be like MJ's first few years. Great player but the only good one on his team and not a lot of wins or post season appearances.

And I wouldn't worry about Stern. Either the Lakers or Cleveland (if they miss the playoffs)might have a "lucky" bounce of the ping-pong balls in the upcoming draft.

Eh, I think in MJ's case, he still made the playoffs every year he was in Chicago, even though the Bulls weren't really good those first few years.

Sucks about the Lakers. Not.

Yeah, but even when the Bulls weren't dominant, they still had pretty good players. There's nobody on the Cavaliers that can compare to Scottie Pippen or Horace Grant and the only player on the Lakers that can compare to Pippen is Lamar Odom _ but Kobe won't let him be Scottie.

The Cavaliers are interesting, because they really are only a couple pieces away. LeBron, obviously, is phenomenal. Anderson Varejao is a keeper because he's the ultimate hustle player, Zydrunas Ilgauskus is probably a top 10 center and Drew Gooden/Tractor Traylor are serviceable at power forward. Add a decent point guard _ McInnis has gone downhill REAL fast _ and a shooter like Michael Redd and you've got something.

I still can't believe Boozer left for UTAH. Well, he's a Dukie so I *can* believe it, but still - why would you pass up the chance to play with Lebron and be going after that Championship. Sure, the money's great, but playing with Jordan made Pippen and Grant and Kukoc and Kerr (maybe not Kerr) famous players in their own right. You get to be legendary just because you played with him and won with him.

If I was in the NBA, I'd be doing anything I could to get LeBron on my team. SUPERSTARS.

As would I. However, unless Ted Steipen returns to run the Cavs, LeBron isn't going anywhere.

There's only one guy who can take the fall here, whether this whole fiasco was his fault or not: Mitch Kupchak.

Whether he was pressured to or not, he chose Kobe over Shaq, thus dooming the franchise for the foreseeable future and kicking off the dreaded Kobe era. He bet on the wrong horse and it's time to pay the consequences, whether he deserves to or not.

At this point, the best move to make would be for the front office to can Kupchak, name Phil Jackson the new coach AND GM, and confront Kobe with the dismal numbers from this season, essentially telling him that he simply can't be expected to carry a team on his back.

But none of that will happen. Phil to the Knicks seems inevitable, according to Jeannie Buss.

If Phil did coach the Knicks, and led them to success, it'd go a long way towards proving that his nine championship rings weren't simply a product of being in the right place at the right time.

Which is why I think he'll probably go to Cleveland.

IMHO people should stop believing everything they hear about Kobe. Seriously, exactly when did CHUCKY ATKINS word become good as gold. That guy always has and always will be a ball hog. What did people expect this year. The team is not very good. Lamar Odom was not a wise investment because for him to be effective he needs the ball in his hands a lot. The same is true for Kobe. It doesn't make either of them bad players, its just their styles conflict. Kobe hasn't even shot the ball that much. How can anyone expect him to do well without ANY INSIDE PRESENCE ON THE LAKERS!!! As always people in LA are trying to make it out like the world is gonna end over this but give it a few years and the lakers will be back among the elite of the NBA.
