It is finally a reality, and it seems incredible, but the screen...oooo it seems so fragile...and only 8 Gigs the max?
But in all, great goodies, POP3 mail, WiFi, Google Maps included, OS X operating system, 2 megapixel camara, touch screen...ok I WANT one now! When is my Sprint contract up?
They also unveiled Apple TV a gadget that let's you stream movies and music from your Mac to your TV and Home Theater and rumors are that the main attraction will be the Tablet MacBook.
Over at CES, lots of new Plasmas and LCD at rock bottom prices, the WiFi Sansa MP3 player seems to be the big hit so far and more Vista stuff, including a super cool application that will let you "travel" the Maps of Windows Live using the Xbox 360 controllers.
Any W's is in or has ever been at either the CES or MacWorld, they seem like super geeky fun to go at least once in a lifetime.
Puerto Rico...fighting for 3rd place on the World Baseball Classic!
The AppleTV is very intriguing, but I'm going to wait'n'see if it ends up significantly better than, say, and EyeTV or some kinda Slingy thing. Sooner or later we WILL start screencapping shows (until the C&D letters start arriving in bags).
I've been to a few Macworlds in SF and probably still have all sorts of collected swag. They're fun and all, but not the be-all-end-all.

From the Apple website (http://www.apple.com/appletv) it looks like right now you can only stream media through iTunes, which sucks. And since iTunes can't currently play DVD's, you'll have to re-purchase your movies through the itunes store if you want to watch them. Ugh. In addition, you can't even stream your home movies through AppleTV (it only supports H.264 and protected H.264 video format), which you would think they would have made provisions for. Although, does this mean that they will now release the TV shows and movies at higher resolutions to accommodate AppleTV users? Also, it's nice that it has HDMI and component output, but only 720? At $299 it's not even close to being worth it.
At $500+ and a 2yr Cingular contract the iPhone seems pretty crippling. If I'm not mistaken, a ConsumerReports survey released today also just rated Cingular as one of the bottom two cell phone providers in urban areas across the country. All that aside, the ideas behind the UI and revolutionizing what define the cellphone and PDA are to be applauded.
The real unsung hero of the debuts is the new AirPort Extreme (http://www.apple.com/airportextreme). A nice upgrade from the AirPort base station and Extreme of old. Hopefully a simple firmware upgrade will allow for them to adapt "draft-n" to "n" whenever it so happens that the format becomes official.

Well, they are also the largest. I've heard rumors that Nextel and T-Mobile aren't doing so well these days - which may also have played a part. That, and the fact that Verizon doesn't support Bluetooth, and the iPhone doesn't appear to have a keyboard - it seems Cingular might be the way to go for an initial release.
I'm going to wait a bit to see what the initial reviews are like before making any decision - it's amazing how polarizing this device is given nobody outside of Apple has even touched one yet.
For me, the most exciting feature was that it runs some version of OS X. I've hated every phone I've ever had for the simple fact that the "operating system" is painful to use. I hated that I had to hack a file to get my Motorola to sync the Calender and AddressBook with iSync via Bluetooth (I don't care who's fault it is - I want that to be easy).
Photos, video and music I'm less excited about - but something that functions well and helps me keep track of my well-I-think-I'm-busy-enough-to-need-one life - I might, MIGHT, be willing to forgo an XBox 360 for that.
Then again, I might not be THAT busy after all.

Well actually it probably also has to do with the fact that T-Mobile has the Sidekick2 and Verizon has the enV, both of which are proprietary devices and can be considered competing products to the iPhone (Internet, photos, etc.). What kind of Motorola do you have? In my experience they typically suck at any kind of syncing with Windows OR Mac (I've tried both). Whereas the Sony Ericsson phones that I've used have had little to no problems at all.
(edited by Jericholic53 on 9.1.07 2226) It says so right here in the wcw handbook!

Yeah... see, now I have to admit I have the V551. But it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I've never really been satisfied with any of my cell phones, and I've none of the higher end phones really impressed me. My better half has a PocketPC (Cingular 8125), which she loves, but I'm not really that impressed with either - and not just because its runs Windows.
Admittedly, I was hoping that Apple would release something in the $300-$400 range, but they seemed to go for broke with some of the features. That's really the issue that I think is the most off-putting.

My thoughts exactly. I don't need an entire computer in my pocket, I just want a phone that plays music well. As far as I'm concerned, Apple should have kept it simple.

Below is a link to an insightful read about the phone's development and implementation. I had almost forgotten about the "iTunes enabled" phone until they mentioned it.
