I picked this game up on Tuesday, and have invested about 10 hours into it over the three days. They have me at 33% complete even though I'm over 50% done with the "story cases" and I've done a few side mission things (normal stuff like chasing bad guys and shooting them. The side missions so far are simple but a nice relief from the main story.

When I started the game, I had the reaction that I have had on games like Heavy Rain. Basically, if it's a slow game that requires a lot of concentration, honestly I get bored or annoyed quickly. I had to stop playing at that point and question whether I had made the right choice in getting the game. And like Heavy Rain, when I got back playing the game and got used to it, I found myself enjoying the somewhat repetitive structure of the main story.

You start out as a beat cop, and move up the ranks as you complete cases. You have evidence to find (and they are kind enough to vibrate the controller when you are close to evidence to examine) and people to interrogate. At the end of each case you get a star rating according to the evidence found and your interrogating skills.

The interrogations are easily the most frustrating part of the game (along with getting stars taken off if you drive recklessly). The facial ticks you are supposed to use to tip you off seem forced and can easily lead you to incorrect accusations. Actually the worst part is watching the lips; they freak me out.

All in all, I have already come to enjoy the casework and really do get mad when I fail in the questioning. This means that I am invested in getting the story right (one case, called the Golden Butterfly, really kicked my ass and netted only one star).

I recommend the game, but I can certainly see people not liking the basic construction of the game and therefore not enjoying the experience. It is worth a rental at the very least (even if you just want to see if you can recognize some of the faces and voices of the characters to match them to an actor).

Anybody else play this game yet?

I've heard people "worried" about how short the game will be, especially in relation to price.

I got mine on Tuesday (along with $15 EGC from Best Buy) but haven't played yet.

That's why I gamefly'ed it. I'll probably done with it in a week or so.

I'm guessing you can do it in under a week. I have played four sessions worth and have completed 15 of the 21 story cases. I like the Vice cases I am in right now; it's a welcome change from the Homicide cases.

I have encountered a couple of times where the game froze up on me. Also, the sound fluctuates pretty badly sometimes which caused me to lose dialogue that I probably needed for an interrogation. Still, the game has my interest and I'm glad I bought it.

Bought it day one. I have the majority of the trophies. I just finished the story tonight. I still need to collect the film reels, drive all of the cars, finish off the last five side missions, and 100% the game. So far, with taking careful care to finish all of the missions with five-star ratings, find all of the landmarks, and drive eighty-seven cars, I have roughly twenty hours in. You can easily beat it in a week. Platinum in less than two. But the ride is amazing. Team Bondi and Rockstar really did something great here. I won't spoil the end, but I feel that RDR had a better (and more fulfilling) story.

I'm only doing maybe one case at most a day, so I'm trying to get maximum time out of it.

Also, slowly getting all the cars, since I'm playing in b/w mode and not easy to tell all those classic cars apart.:>

So... after completing the rest of what I needed for the platinum trophy, I have to say that I am tired of it. After just over 30 hours in, all of the cars look the same. The film reels are very annoying to find on your own (and sometimes even more frustrating with the lack of a quality video and/or photo-text guide). I'm not sure people were clamoring to keep this thread going, but if you play it for the story alone, Heavy Rain is definitely a better option for story-driven gameplay. I'm pleased enough with the game to justify the purchase, but I have no desire to revisit the world. Which is something I cannot say about any other Rockstar-associated game since GTA III (I don't count Table Tennis). I love sandbox, I love action, I love story-centric. This has become tiresome.
