So after Smackdown, the KOTR field of 8 consists of:

Brock Lesnar
Big Labowski
RVD
Chris Jericho
X-Pac
Booker T
Hardcore Holly
Test

Not a bad field, actually. What do you think the brackets are going to be and who do you see going into the semi-finals on the PPV and who do you see winning. It actually looks pretty heel heavy, but is Holly a face again now or what? Anyway, here's how I see the WWE booking this. (Warning - Fantasy Type Booking Approaching)

On Raw we have Booker T vs. X-Pac and RVD vs. Brock. Those are both huge matches for Raw and should pull in a decent rating for the declining show. I'd like to see Booker T actually pulling out the win somehow despite nWo interference. RVD vs. Brock will end with Eddie causing RVD to lose the match and Brock advancing, possibly setting up Eddie/RVD again for the PPV.

On Smackdown we have Chris Jericho vs. Hardcore Holly and Jericho pulls out the win, maybe with Angle interference or something since even though Angle/Hogan is set for the PPV, they seem to be heading to a Angle/Holly feud. Test vs. Val ends up with Val getting a clean win. They seem to be building up Jericho vs. Val so they'll hold that off for the PPV.

I don't know if they're having Raw/Smackdown matches right away at the PPV, so I'll say they're not and so now we have Jericho/Val vs. Brock/Booker for the PPV semi-finals. Brock wins when the nWo cause Booker to lose and I'm gonna give the win to Val since they seem to be pushing him lately and I don't want to see a Jericho/Brock final just because I'm slating Brock to win. So Brock/Val is your final and Brock destroys Val to become the 2002 King of the Ring. That's not how I personally would book it, just how I see them doing it.

What are your predictions?

At this point, I will take Booker vs. Y2J in the finals. Before Raw was rewritten, Brock was going to face Austin, so Brock is just now being thrown into the tournament. He or Paul will cause a DQ, freeing up Booker to get to the finals. Jericho should get by Big Val, and Holly will find a way to get by Test. There is no way I see Holly or Test beating Jericho, so hopefully it will all lead up to...

(Did someone mention Fantasy Booking? Possible spoilers for the two or three of you that might be reading my column)

Without having the records in front of me, it seems strange to have Jericho go to the Finals, as he's a former WWF champion.

The KOTR (or the perception, which is more important) is about attempting to elevate someone, whether successfully (Austin, Angle) or not (Billy Bitchcakes, Mabel).

Hart was, I assume, a former champion when he won, but has there been anyone else?

NB: That having been said, Jericho will more than likely goto the Finals of the E-3 KOTR tournament.

I nearly had kittens when I saw the spoilers that Bob Holly had moved on to the next round. Being a big fan of Bob Holly and Tajiri I would have liked to see either man move on.

Well I see it as this way.

X-Pac vs Booker T:
Current NWO vs former NWO. I don't think they will let X-Pac go on past this round. Booker has the skills and the Charisma to go far. Booker wins after some interference by Show or Shawn Michels.

Brock vs RVD:
This was teased on Raw last week and has some good potental. Either man could go on to the next round with the skills they have, but RVD has the edge though because he works a good match and actually does not need power moves to get over.

I don't keep up with Smackdown!, but here's a good guess on what may go on.

Big Valbowski vs Chris Jericho:
Jericho will own Labowski because Jericho simply because he is a bit better than Labowski.

Bob Holly vs Test:
As much as I am a Bob Holly fan, I do not see him getting past Test. He's just not as over as Test.

Next round will be:

Booker T vs RVD:
This could go either way, but I think I see much more potental with Booker winning and going on to the finals. RVD will put up a fight, but I like the whole Lesnar angle that they could do with RVD.

Jercho vs Test:
Jericho will take this one. I really do not see Test winning because Jericho really has more potental. He's a past winner, but that won't matter in the finals.

Finals:

Booker T vs Jericho: Booker will win, but the match will show how well he can fight, and how Booker T will be over without the NWO.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

See power moves are "wrong" because he's wrestling RVD. Remember an RVD mark thinks nonsensical offensive moves that look cool are all that matter in the ring.

Ah, so REALLY what was being said was "RVD should win because he's all flippy-floppy and such". No offence to van Dam, I find him incredibly entertaining at times, but I hope Brock liquefies him on Monday.

It gets old really quick. There's more to wrestling than just; punch, punch, grapple, powerslam.

Granted high risk moves can get old quick too. Wrestlers have to find a mix of everything to get the crowd on their side.

Wanted: Professional wrestler with years of experience at the national level who has yet to perform before anything other than a soldout crowd. Only moveset necessary is one making use of every move ever seen in Japan, America or Mexico along with no more than eight original potential finishing moves. Said wrestler needs at least three of the following: ability to perform top-rope aerial moves, ability to look convincing performing power moves on some of this promotion's smaller performers (no larger than The Big Show), ability to make a comatose person submit from pain. Preferably at least 100% of this wrestler's matches have been of ***** proportions, with mic skills at least that good to accompany. Knowledge of a cure for cancer optional. Inquire within.

I really am hoping for a great match with Lesnar/RVD on Monday. This could be where we see just what Lesnar can do, and the two working together could REALLY make Lesnar look good.

Every reputable wrestling news source I see is talking about the "HUGE PUSH" Lesnar is about to get. How better to restore the legacy of KOTR than to give it to Lesnar?

Nonetheless, my personal pick would be Booker T.

And given what KOTR stands for, what the flip is the aging, beat-up X-Pac doing in the mix?!?

I know you were only quoting the earlier post, and seeing as you aren't up to date on Smackdown it's no big deal, but he's the Big Valbowski, because he used to be Val Venis. Yeah, it's a horrible name. Anyway, it's not going to be Test vs. Jericho in the semi-finals, because they're both heels. That being said, I will go with Jericho & Bob Holly making it to the semis. I am guessing that this tourny is the reason why they turned Bob Holly face with hardly any reason. I think they realized they needed a mid-card face to be in the semis. Anyway, that's my thought.

I am NO RVD mark! I originally saw him in ECW and hated his guts because his matches took forever and the 15 minute ring entry was not much help getting me on his side.

I hated the fact that he came to the WWF because of this. But as he got more time in the WWF, he matured and came around to a better way of doing matches. Since then he has grown on me, and I like what he does in the ring. He can do wrong, he just has not done it yet.

If this makes me an RVD mark in your eyes, then so be it.

actually, i have heard that Brock has a Shooting Star Press waiting in his arsenal. also, i like him a lot more than your average "big man" because although he uses power moves, he does NOT use the chokeslam!! plus, he makes some "average" moves, like the belly to belly, a lot more high-impact

MonteCarl's prediction is really the one that makes the most sense. It keeps heel/face alignments through all the way and it furthers the Booker/nWo angle. Book, while a better choice for King than Lesnar in opinion (being that Booker is actually *over*), would almost immediately jump into a top level feud, at least in theory, thereby bypassing the nWo feud. Plus, with HHH most likely walking out undisputed WWF champ, we're gonna need more than a few heel challengers and Brock would fit the bill if he were King. The Lesnar theory seems the most sound to me. Either way, this really is a two man tournament. The only other guy that might win is RVD, but that's a longshot since he's carrying the IC strap.

They needed someone from the NWO in there, to cause trouble for Booker (my pic as the winner.) And, uh, there's not many people left in the NWO who can really wrestle.

I wouldn't mind seeing X-Pac vs. Booker saved for later in the ladder, but I can't really see a way around that. And I wanna see the NWO interfere, but Booker still pull it off. Somehow.

And if RVD actually defeats Brock, I see RVD winning the crown. He has been "paying his dues" since his initial big push. The IC belt might be enough for him, though.

Yah know, I am dubious as to how good the Lesnar/RVD match is going to be. I can't remember RVD being that good a salesman. Ah well, we shall see.

So, IMHO, three viable winners, between Book, RVD and TNBTBrockLesnar. Hmmm. All Raw. Interesting. And, balls to the wall, I would have to give the throne to Lesnar.

All Raw guys because HHH probably is going to win the belt, and the next Title feud probably will be on Raw. So far, they've switched from Raw to Smackdown and back for all the title feuds since the split.

So who would they feud with champ HHH?

RVD? No, he has the IC belt.

Lesnar? I really don't think he's ready yet. In a couple of months, the fans might buy it, but not right now. They're heading in this direction, though.

Booker T? Definitely. He started in the InVasion angle as WCW Champ and headlined Summerslam against The Rock. Then he fell way down the card, a victim of the "new guy pays his dues, no matter his stature" rule.
Booker is ready and able to do this thang. I'm not a big fan of HHH, but I think a feud with Booker would rule. I also think a champ Booker would rule. Can you dig that...

Imagine Booker on Smackdown as champion with Goldust following him around and getting thrown out of the building. Imagine him interacting with people like Jericho and Hogan, or even Hurricane? Some serious comedy could occur, and so could some serious wrestling.
This is good, methinks.

It's only a matter of time before the WWE gives some champ a long title run. They have to. Since Jericho lost the title at Wrestlemania, we've had HHH, Hogan, and now the Undertaker each win the title. Someone's got to have a good long run, and in that way, I don't see Booker as the champ any time soon. Somehow, I get the feeling that HHH is going to be that champ. And I don't see HHH/Booker for the title unless HHH turns. They just made Booker face. They're not going to want to hurt either guys face pop by making the fans choose between them. Unless, as I said, HHH turns.

The question then becomes, how do they do an HHH heel turn? They can't really do it against Undertaker, unless they do a double turn, which I just don't see happening. For example, one of the things that could get HHH over as a heel would be to beat some popular face up with his sledgehammer A LOT. But if he beats up the Undertaker, the crowd loves him for it.

I hope they find some way to clear up the title picture, because right now I have no idea how they're going to do it.

True. However, HHH is gonna get cheered either way. He's the heel we cheer for. And I think he's enough of a tweener to take the belt from UT, and still heel after Booker.

And, Parts Unknown, you may be on to something there. My only caveat is, the KOTR doesn't get a title shot as a result. I could still buy King Brock and have Booker chasing HHH's strap.
