Does anyone else think he drummed all this stuff up JUST to upstage Shaq's trade to the Heat???

Kobe is WAY down on my respectable athletes list these days.

And I hope for Lakers' fans sake that he isn't in jail by the time the season starts.

He's been running a power play to get Shaq out of town from the moment he announced he wanted to test the free agent waters...I have no doubt in my mind about that. That was his way of beginning to make demands (no matter how spoken or unspoken) as to what had to happen if he was to ever re-up with the Lakers. Ditto the "resignation" of Phil Jackson.

The tipoff, IMO, was Payton changing his mind about leaving the Lakers.

Well, Kobe got exactly what he wanted. So hopefully he'll live up to expectations.

I was actually suprised that Kobe did not get himself appointed as Coach...

What's disturbing about Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 is that both are classic propaganda. Events are shown out of order, suggesting conspiracy by confusing audiences about the sequence of events; events are shown out of context, edited to create an appearance differing from actual events; scenes of horror are intermixed with scenes of normalcy, suggesting all is horror; viewers are given no way of knowing what is fact, what is opinion, and what is made up.

Yeah, as much as I wanted Kobe to go to the Clippers to play with the Duke alums, I knew this was going to happen. The Clippers were the ultimate leverage, nothing more nothing less. He used them to get himself a max out deal and the power to run the team. Not a bad strategy, as he's basically got everything now that he could ever want as a Laker.

Except no more championships.

And if Kobe really cared about championships, we would have seen none of this methinks. He's already got his rings, now he's got money and power, which appears to be what he's after most right now anyway.

Kobe disgusts me. He is the ultimate headache for any coach, and one of the worst role models in recent memory for children that play a team sport of any kind. He could play as well as Jordan did for the Bulls, and the Lake Show still wouldn't win a single title. It's disappointing to me to see an athlete so self-absorbed that he can't see that he was clearly the SIDEKICK for the Lakers three titles, and not the fulcrum of the team, like he seems to think he was.

In regards to the hotel room...well no one knows for sure what happened there except Kobe and the victim/accuser/whatever you want to call her. Personally, even though I don't like Kobe as a player or role model, I don't think anything more than consensual sex went on in that hotel room, and I do hope he's cleared of the charges.

I feel bad for Frosty, JTD, and all the Lakers fans, because no team that goes 25-57 or thereabouts is going to be fun to watch, no matter how many points Bryant puts up. One of the first things any kid learns when they go out for a team sport is that one person does not a team make. In basketball, maybe the most "team-oriented" of the team sports, one person can make a big difference, but one person can't win a title by themself. Kobe's probably gonna average around 38 ppg next year, but the team will be HORRIBLE. I don't care if they free up a little room to sign a free agent or two, this team's gonna be bad. Shaq, meanwhile, will almost certainly hop in the rejuvination machine this off-season and team with Dwayne Wade to give Miami the best 1-2 punch in the East. I won't be surprised if Shaq and Co. win it all, but I'll be shocked if the Lakers win 30+ games next year.

Sorry, this post didn't have much real direction to it, just felt I needed to say a few things on the situation after not commenting much on it previously.

PS: Kobe doesn't deserve a max contract. Those should be reserved for 4 guys in the league (at least off the top of my head): Garnett, Duncan, Kidd, and Shaq. My reasoning? Only players that make their teammates better by their mere presence on the floor should be given max contracts.

Hey, I don't like Kobe either - but you're kidding yourself if you think the Purple and Gold won't be able to win 30 games. Especially since the California/Pacific Division might be the weakest in the Western Conference (Clippers, Lakers, Warriors, Kings, Suns).

I'm pretty sure after they address some needs and finalize their roster, the Lakers (even without Shaq) should be able to put up 45-50 wins. I don't see them missing the playoffs.

They should still make the playoffs, but I don't see them getting past the 2nd round anymore.
