Charges pressed by DA after two weeks of deliberation

My thoughts:

1) I'm not the biggest Kobe fan in the world, but I'll stand by my belief that he's innocent. He did release a statement saying that the only thing he was guilty of was "adultery," and that whatever he did with the "victim" was not against her will. I'll take his word for it since, well, he's been clean before this entire mess took place and the victim's credibility has been in question ever since this all got started.

2) I don't know much about the victim, but from what I've read and heard she's got herself some issues and seems to be emotionally unstable, so I'm taking the accusation with a grain of salt. She should get fried if her accusation is a lie, but it'll end up only being a misdemeanor if that were the case.

In any case, whatever I babble over here is all speculation, and if Kobe is found guilty. . .that'd be sad.

To bad Kobe already admitted to adultery. There goes the 'If It Don't Fit, You Must Acquit' defense.

I really believe that Kobe is innocent. Look, if you are a famous basketball player like Kobe, why in the hell would you rape some girl? Seriously, he could have nearly any single woman(and many married ones) anytime he wanted. He's not a stupid guy. There is no way he would force himself on a young woman like that. He would be throwing his whole life away, and I think he, and most other athletes understand that.

Man, if you are male and have a lot of money, it is a danger to be alone with a woman anywhere. What a sad fact.

I've heard that about her too, but I cant find anything online about it. Can you point me in the right direction?

Imagine that....a basketball player...in trouble with the law. Holy Crap....

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are named 'Bush', 'Dick', and 'Colon.
Need I say more?"

Well, I say let there be a trial, because we've already seen that perceptions can be wrong. The original perception that Kobe is so squeaky clean that he couldn't have had sex with her. Obviously his image of being a saint does not quite jive with reality, now that he's admitted having sex with her.

Who knows why famous people (or any person) do the things they sometimes do? Why did Hugh Grant hire a ugly ass prostitute when he was married to Elizabeth Hurley? Why did O.J. (another famous athlete with a squeaky clean image) kill his ex-wife? For that matter, why did Kobe have sex with her at all? Maybe the fact that he COULDN'T have her made her more desirable. Who knows?

But the main point here is we don't know the real Kobe Bryant, nor do we know the real victim. Yeah, there's a little bit of trash on her (which probably could be traced back to Team Kobe), but it seems kind of lame right now (things like she tried out for American Idol. Er...so what?). I've also heard that the townspeople, the ones who would be more likely to know her, generally believe her. And if she is just a publicity hound, why do we not even know her name yet?

Still, like I said, we don't know her, she could be a total kook, too. It's all speculation right now, but it does seem that this deserves to go to trial to be heard by a jury. We'll see how that plays out.

Regardless, I want to stop hearing about what a good guy Kobe is. He's obviously not that perfect. I just hate this vibe that just because someone is famous, they won't do anything wrong. That attitude would allow athletes to take liberties with others.

I don't know what possessed Kobe to cheat on his wife. I seriously don't understand it. When I saw his wife, my jaw dropped. She's a total knockout! She's one of the hottest women out there right now and he CHEATED on her?

What was he thinking???

Plus, and I speak from experience on this one thing I've learned about new moms: one of their least favorite activities is having sex. My girl was also born in January (same as Kobe's) and Mrs. JJD says she feels like a "cow", with all of the breast-feeding. We have conversations like this:

Mrs. JJD: I'm going to bed.
JJD: Yeah?
Mrs. JJD: Yeah, I've gotta pump.

Like I'm going to go in and try anything after THAT. (Or even really be interested.) She's trying to do it until the baby turns one, because the doctor says that would be best, but in the meantime we're just getting through the dry-spell.

I'm not condoning what the guy did, but the quoted comments made me think about it in this light just now. I know if I had a girl right in front of me (and especially if I was impaired) it would be really difficult to "turn it off" without seriously considering "going there".

Of course, I also think if you marry an NBA player and you seriously think he's going to stay faithful you are blind to the truth.

But being a rapist isn't about the sex, it's about the power. I believe Kobe's innocent but the defense that he could have anyone he wanted so he doesn't have to rape, isn't one that works.

that whole press conference, not to mention going around like nothing happened at the ESPYs isn't gonna help. He looked more peeved he actually had to TALK to reporters about something, he, Kobe Bryant, who plays for the Lakers, that he didn't want to. Seemed to be glaring at his wife too.

there was an earlier rumor about kobe with some adult film star or something like that last year...

about the only disclaimer for the girl is that she was reportedly very friendly with any celebrity or whatever who stayed at the hotel. Still, smiling and saying hi doesn't say 'i am your love toy.'

Alright, I'm probably being insensitive and stupid about this, but I keep hearing on SportsCenter that the victim's picture has been found on some websites. Anybody know where to look? I'm just curious about what she looks like.

The picture going around is of the entire Eagle Valley HS cheerleading squad. I think the first appearance was on one of the ESPN forums or something.

Oh, you want a LINK: well, don't say I never did nothin' for ya:

Yeah, but did you read it? It's more racist than your typical Scotsman thread.
