It's not as if they threw things at him.
And I disagree with the notion that Jericho would get cheered in his hometown. I have to believe that he'd certainly get booed, because he's played heel against some of the most popular faces in the fed.
But I digress. The fact is this: The Lakers beat the Sixers last year in the NBA Finals. Kobe talked down Philadelphia. Refused to play for any other team than the Lakers.
Why wouldn't the Philadelphia fans boo him? I'll tell you this-- if during the big Pacers-Knicks rivalry in the mid-'90s, a Knick had won an All-Star game in Indianapolis, we would have booed the hell out of him. And rightly so, since everyone knows the Knicks are eeeeeeeeeevil.

Wow, the first time in my life that anyone has ever made an implication that I'm a commie, and it's by the mighty CRZ. Sweet!
Anyway, I can handle all kinds of freedom of speech. My goal was not to make a legal argument. I'm not looking for the creation of limits on speech (that's what campaign finance reform is for). My point goes to the adage that just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.
Given the context of the situation, being an All-Star Game, it was wrong to boo the guy.

So, you would have preferred it if they'd pretended to like him? Despite all the perceived slights against Philadelphia, and the fact that he'd gotten the MVP instead of Sixers player Allen Iverson? And despite the fact that the Lakers, just last summer, ended the Sixers' quest for a championship? (Which, by the way, turned out to be far more difficult than that of the Lakers).

Starting with the last comment:
1)It wasn't a Sixers-Lakers game.
2)If you're referring to the All-Star MVP award, then Iverson deserved it as much as I did. Aside from the fact that the East LOST, Iverson didn't play all that well, so that is a completely ridiculous point to make.
3)Everyone seems to be citing these perceived slights against the city, which again...if it were anything other than an All-Star Game, you've got no argument from me. If he had called out Philadelphia for the POS town that it is leading up to the game, then I could understand the immediate need to boo a guy for that. But he didn't.
4)Would I have *preferred* that they cheered or faked it? Obviously since I think it was wrong to boo, I would rather they have done anything up the spectrum from that. Silence, polite applause, whatever.

Wrong, if Jericho went back home they would defintely cheer for him, so he's wrestled and beaten a lot of top faces. So did Bret Hart and they still cheered him. Sure Jericho is not as famous as Bret Hart, but still any main eventer Canadian will get cheered when they return to Canada, regardless of whether they are a heel.

This reminds me of an NFL game a few years ago when the fans booed a child in the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition because he wore the jersey of their rival team. Is that abusive conduct? If so, is it purely because they booed a child? Would it have been appropriate to boo if it were an adult competition?
That's different. Booing someone (child or adult) in that situation is wrong because they aren't being paid millions of $$$ to do it.
And as for the "home town" argument, when does Kobe ever come back to the area? Aside from playing the 76ers and having his high school jersey retired, I can't remember the last time he came back to Philly.
