Two days before the Isiah Thomas: Head Coach era begins, the Knicks have actually released one of their many, many small forwards.

ESPN.com - NBA - Knicks waive 12-year veteran Rose, buy out contract

And while the deal looks good on paper, since you can't have a team function with so many small forwards, the Knicks are actually PAYING Jalen Rose $16.9 million to sit out the season, which does nothing to solve their salary cap problems. Because actually getting something BACK for him by trading him would just be wacky! THIS is WCW the New York Knicks!

TEN YEARS AGO IN WRESTLING HISTORY: OCTOBER 1996
WWF: Mankind d. Undertaker in the first ever Buried Alive match at...WWF Buried Alive. Also, Steve Austin continued his efforts to bring Bret Hart back to the ring by turning on Brian Pillman, shattering his ankle in what to this day is known as "Pillmanizing".

WCW: Hulk Hogan d. Randy Savage in a main event no one cared about, but Roddy Piper came out immediately after to end Halloween Havoc with a bang. The Outsiders won their first WCW Tag Team titles by beating Harlem Heat.

If this signals the start of the Jalen Rose: Sideline Reporter era, that that's awesome.

You would think that if you are paying him around $17 million he should at least be put through the torture of watching the Knicks play this season.

Jalen Rose ever ending up in this tax bracket is just maddening.

Explain the waiver rule to me if you'd be so kind: Since I doubt that anyone besides the Knicks would be insane enough to pay Jalen Rose $17 million at this point (though in our own defense, he did seem to be the future of the Pacers' franchise at the turn of the century), does that mean Jalen gets paid $17 million for watching the NBA on TV the entire season? Could he sign with another team, and if he does, are they responsible for the $17M, or can he sign a separate contract?

The Knicks bought out his contract, which I believe means that any team can sign him for the minimum, if they so choose (and Jalen goes for it).

I don't think the Pistons would mind having the hometown boy back for the minimum (what is that - a little less than $2 million?). Considering he can go at the 1, 2 or 3, he'd be a great short-term backup.

Just over a million.

I have a perverse joy in any thread about the Knicks. It's hilarious how screwed up they are.

The article mentioned that they bought him out for $14.5 mill. I believe though his whole salary counts on the cap. He can sign with another team and the Knicks would still have to pay him the $14.5. Remember, last year, the Mavs waived Finley and still had to pay his salary.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

It doesn't sound like Rose will land in Detroit, as he would be guaranteed a small role off the bench with no chance of starting.

That's a lot of money to pay people to not play for you.

They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck.

It's a series of tubes.

Consider the source; this is the Knicks we're talking about.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Hughes, James, Marshall, Gooden, Z starting line up.
