So, I'd just gotten over the idea that PC adventure gaming was dead. There won't be another Monkey Island, Bone was kind of disappointing, hell, even Myst is done. Sam & Max is coming but that's a while off yet. Then, a while back a Satire Reader sent me an e-mail wanting to know if I'd heard anything about the Kings Quest fan game. I didn't, and while I enjoyed a few of these fangames (Tierra's KQ I&II remakes were really great), I've never really thrown in with most of them (there WAS a really awful new Space Quest a few years back, but since the Larry Vales series, fan made adventure games through AGS have typically been really awful). So I didn't think anything more about it.
THEN a few months ago, I got ANOTHER e-mail saying that Vivendi Universal had issued a cease and desist against the people who were making it, which was pretty well expected. But NOW I get word that after some talks, Vivendi decided that they weren't going to make another King's Quest anyway, so it's cool?! Wow.
I mean, that's a pretty big step for Vivendi, and pretty cool of them to let this thing go through. Checking out the screenshots it's shaping up very nicely too. It's good to see a company backing off from being overzealously litigous, and it's good news for the fan mod community, which is basically all old school aventure gamers have left.

Lucas Arts let the rights to the game default back to Steve Purcell (the writer of the comic) who is working with a small independant development firm, who is working on completing the game. They (telltalegames.com) are the same ones who did the mediocre first part of the Bone game, which makes me a bit leery, but hopefully they've learned from their mistakes.

Yup, and then later, it was uncancelled by Telltale games, I think. I hope it's a good game, and not the disaster that was the new Leisure Suit Larry "game". | SKLOKAZOID

It makes me want to break out my 5.25" disks and replay the first four games. Now, if my laptop just had a 5.25" drive...
