He was fired Friday after failing to take the NBA team to the playoffs in his first year at the helm.
The Kings finished with a 33-49 record and missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years.
It was the fifth straight season that Sacramento's record has declined since their trip to the conference final in 2002.
Musselman was fired by the Golden State Warriors in 2004 after two straight losing seasons.
He spent two seasons as an assistant at Memphis before being hired in Sacramento.
He's reportedly owed US$5 million over the final two years of his deal.
