Anyone else watch it? I tuned in for Ian McShane and he didn't disappoint (though obviously, as an NBC show, there's a total absence of him calling people "cocksuckers.")
I thought the show would be an alternate reality with Ian McShane as king of America since the world looks almost exactly like our own, but it isn't. Instead Ian McShane is King Silas of Gilboa, a country very, very similar to the US, with a capital city of Shiloh (Brangelina approves), which is very, very similar to New York City.
The David vs. Goliath confrontation was novel but pretty silly. Actually, the whole show's premise is pretty silly, but the acting is 100% resolute. The "crown of butterflies" looked way too CGI.
Overall, though, I thought Kings was pretty good. Looked great, directed by Francis Lawrence who did I Am Legend, strong acting, decent writing. I'm interested in where it goes.
Tomas Alfredson's adaptation of the classic John le Carré novel has had its release in the US pushed back until December, in order to keep it fresh for Oscar contention. Over here in the UK, though, it's released tomorrow.
